- The next major military aid package from the US to Ukraine could include HIMARS or MLRS rocket systems. Reports suggest that a public announcement on the same could come as soon as next week. The reports come as Putin’s forces continue their onslaught in Ukraine's eastern Donbas region. This also comes after Ukrainian officials, including President Zelensky, have repeatedly called for the two systems to fight Russia.

I don't see the logic in advertising to Russia the weapons we send to Ukraine. You lose the element of surprise when you do this.

Different countries promise to send a few of this and that, however a large quantities of a certain few types (and quick training) would be required quickly.
I get that Ukraine needs wepons. But mlrs or anything else isnt going to change the battlefield dynamic.
Seems like exactly the tools Ukraine needs.
The announcements will come out next week. Then it will take time to sent these weapons. It will take weeks atleast to train Ukrainians on how to use them properly. By then Russia will have likely captured the entire Donbas. On the other hand atleast half of the weapons the west sends to Ukraine get destroyed on route and they require fuel and logistics. Russia has been targeting Ukraine's supply lines and fuel supplies. Russia also has powerful air defenses and will likely shoot down many of these missiles launched. Finally even if Ukraine gets its hands on these types of weapons, they still won't be able to match Russia in terms of firepower. Russia has 5000+ pieces of artillery and MLRS as well as thousands of missiles and 1000 fighter jets.
I say hurry up and give them, Russia will then move to total war mobilisation of its people and the whole of Ukraine will get wiped off the map...watch and see.

There should be more than enough pre-positioned in Poland to start it! There is at least a Division's Supply of arms already in Poland. That includes M270s and missiles. A ships load follow. The next deployment for US Units from Ft. Hood just has to ship in their equipment. They are about to deploy there anyway.

Russia does not have full mobilisation ukraine does so although russia in theory could field a bigger army unless they declare this a war and have conscription they are going to be out numbered by ukraine , we can see that russia has problems with recruitment in the amount of bonuses they are paying for re-enlistment $2900 a month near Moscow $5200 a month in Chechnya . Russia has more stored weapons but as we can see with the types of weapons Russia is getting out of storage they are using a lot of outdated weapons . it depends what america and its allies does they could arm ukraine with more modern weapons and they could reclaim territory . I frankly dont think the russian military have a clue what their doing , they dropped out early in ww1 in ww2 russia helped the germans for 2 years and then were propped up with lease lend they also lost far more people than anyone else , and russia lost the cold war

I was an MLRS crew chief during the Persian Gulf War. No artillery system is perfect, but MLRS/HiMARS is still devastating. I just don't think the politicians understand how many will be needed. A platoon of four is a joke! Too few will not be enough launchers to really affect Russian operations. The Ukrainians need a brigade (or at least two battalions) of 72 to 108 launchers, 6 counter battery radars, 110 heavy HEMTT support trucks with 10-ton trailers, 30 to 45 M-577 command & control vehicles, and a complete suite of long-range radios to coordinate the retaking of the Donbass. It will take one fires brigade (artillery wise) to change the direction of the war (not precluding other branches of service).

The US actually has a lot of those "Fuel/Air Explosive" bombs. It was initially used for clearing trees in Vietnam. Essentially for creating helipads.

The only difference is that the US was using it for clearing trees, Russia is using it on civilians. The US just decided to provide Ukraine with arms that is of better use for Ukraine.
What if these weapons are destroyed or captured ? That surely won't be good for marketing will it ? Recently the Russians captured a Phoenix Ghost 300 UAV fully intact. They also managed to get their hands on a Brimstone missile undamaged and countless Javelin and other ATGMs from the west.

Just send the basic MLRS without the ultra long range missiles to start off with, then later try to cut the red tape, the important thing is to start NOW. Ukraine doesn't need the MLRS systems for indiscrimate area attacks, because that risks civilian casualties, they mostly need them for pinpoint counter battery fire to even the odds in the artillery battle. Russia has more than 5000 pieces of artillery and MLRS. Ukraine simply can't match Russian firepower no matter what the west does. Keep in mind the Russians are constantly targeting Ukrainian supply lines and weapons shipments.

They''re both MLRS's. One is called the HIMARS (truck mounted). The other is called the M270 (track mounted)
Though also modular, in that both can be configured for either several medium range rockets or a long range missile. Or both at the same time for the M270.

I wish Biden would send the ATACMS but the M31 is good enough for now. GPS rockets that are very accurate and hit targets at 45 miles. Well beyond the range of Russian artillery. Even the SMERCH system will have a hard time reaching it. The reload of HIMARS is fast. Shoot and scoot. Ukraine can hit fuel and ammo dumps and logistic points. Logistics is the key. Russian tanks and artillery are useless without ammo and fuel.

Russians claim to have shot down 90 Bayraktars. Ukraine bought atleast 50 of them and we haven't seen anything from them lately so they've obviously been blown to bits. Yeas it will if they get missiles that have long reach. As for now they can hardly reach the railway system used by Russia in Ukraine. This must change. They also need 100 MLRS and 100 HIMARS together with 100 more of long range artellery. Add to that as much amo as Russia so far has spent. This is not a problem for the west. It is a question of political will.

I can't deny the fact that the United States helpings Ukraine in every way it could..but procuring such deadly weapons, I think it will only escalating this war into a higher conflicts or destruction ..it could escalate upto nuclear war which non of the country of the world would like that. I don't see Ukraine doing well in the Donbas region currently and I see Russia making slow advances. However, with each advance it gets slower and each win they get comes at a cost. If weapons like this come on then in a matter of weeks or months they might be able to stop any major offensives or even counterattack.
It is a battle of attrition....in both soldiers and equipment. Right now Ukraine is losing control on the ground but winning the battle of attrition on the long term. Russia keeps losing equipment and munitions supply at a rate it can not easily replace. Ukraine is gaining equipment and trained personnel at a rate that is expanding exponentially. Like they say "amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics". Russia has diminishing logistics, Ukraine has expanding logistics!

Let me guess....you do not have a clue on what one M270 can do.......more or less what a battery of MLRS can do. Just a battery ( 9 launchers) is probably enough if they have a lot of missiles. It is not the number of launchers that limits the capability...it is the supply of missiles. A whole week of trucks supplying it with missiles, is not even enough for a whole day of firing them! An hour of firing can cover the area occupied by a lot of Russian BTGs!
