We have a storm drain in my college campus that gets clogged all the time when it rains! It's not by a road, it's near a giant lawn and there are trees all around but it makes this huge puddle and you can't cross it without boots. I never thought of just going up to it with protective gear and just unclogging it.

Also we are taught that certain things like this are "someone else's job" and even if it is, when there is difficulty with the job getting done, we ought to have thr gumption to do something about it. It's the same with picking trash or cleaning your table after eating at a restaurant. We sometimes see it as a job that's below us and something "someone else is supposed to do" but atst, taking the time to do it yourself if you have the tools and know how is a great help.

You have probably saved more than a few people's lives from hydroplaning on the water you help relieve from the flooded streets, in turn preventing some of the many bad accidents that occur when people, driving the way they do, drive in bad weather. Simply put, what you do matters. Keep up the great work!

And then I thought about my country.... if we had these problems as well. And although there's lots of rain here as well.... and although we have LOTS of streets, too.... I have never seen this issue in this magnitude where I live! How much rain is there? How many mm (millimeters) of rain, NOT inch or anything imperial do you got over there on avereage a year?
Here in Germany I have NEVER seen an autobahn, a federal road, a state road nor a county road that has any gullies! Here, our roads are tilted so the water can flow off. Only inside cities you will find them.
Once in my life I have seen a flooded autobahn: It had been HOT for a long time and when there was a thunderstorm the soil was so dry it could not accept all that water.
As far as I can remember even German trenches in WW-I had been dry.... in contrast to the allied ones where many soldiers died due to wet feet, too. ;-) Somehow you need to change your attitude towards water :-D

They could/should have slowed down. But suggesting to drive where they are not supposed to be because someone is standing where they are not supposed to be is pretty idiotic
kim smith if there aren’t oncoming cars in the other lane then it’s perfectly reasonable to ask that they move over just a few feet. Going completely in the other lane is wrong, yes, but just a bit is normal and is typically expected when there are cyclists or workers on the side of the road.
