Thanks for covering this game, it got me and a friend to play it over Tabletop Simulator, and then he bought it for me as a birthday gift. We just finished the "campaign mode" today, and the "secret content" was wild enough to be damn near horrifying.
But we beat it! And we're hoping to play it a whole lot more.

I love this game! My coworker brought this for me from america. I've already played it a lot.
Shame that this game isn't an easy recommend for Sonic fans who don't play board games. This could have been perfect for one of my friends but "finicky" is anathema to them.
There are plenty of easy alternatives. This game is for people who like complex board games

This looks pretty good for a sonic board game compared to other sonic board games I have seen. Ps I think you prozd would be a fun knuckles in like a cartoon or anime

Its interesting because its rated only a 2.0 on BGG which means its not like "Connect 4" but its on the easier side of complexity. I think I remember hearing about this game though
If I set this up in front of someone that doesn't play hobby board games, I think they'd immediately ask to do something else, lol. Not saying there can't be a complicated Sonic themed board game, but like... This is a lot.

Feels like a less balanced version of the Mega Man board game. I love that game. This, however, feels jaaaanky.

I love this game. But boy. Oh boy. Is it a learning curve to figure out all the rules. I found that once I grasped all of them though, I actually found that it’s easier once you know all the rules really well. So it’s one of those games where the rules are complex enough that remembering all of them is a mechanic unto itself. But once you do have a solid understanding I actually think that it can become extremely modular and you can pretty easily shorten or speed it up by intentionally circumnavigating certain soft rules like how many cards you pull and whatnot. Plus there’s some really fantastic Easter eggs that I liked.
So I understand where you’re coming from but I think I liked it quite a bit more than you did.
Getting some real cow card game vibes from this…

Pretty sure he has a PO box where you can send him stuff. He might even open it in an opening mail video. Look for his opening videos and see if you can find the address.
Saw that first from the Board James episode.
They did a remake a few years ago, and that’s also a great little simple game, but I would love to see him review that original version.

Awww so sad. It had a pretty interesting premise. But tbh i think it would have been more fun as a racing game kinda like cubitos to draw in more people into the board game hobby.

That's a shame. As a lifelong Sonic fan who likes board games, I had some concerns when the game was revealed, and this seems to validate all of my concerns. The game looks too complicated for the average person and conveys too many gameplay elements to keep track of, compared to other board games I like. I wish I could like it more.
You must think the average person is really dumb. Or maybe it’s projection.
I have it and it’s really fun, it’s not as complicated as you might think.
I kind of feel like you don't explain things fluidly I'll be real... lot's of "we'll get to that later" and it feels like a disjointed explanation of what's going on. I think even if it's a complicated game it might be your job to simplify it a bit in an explanation if you're making a holistic review and I also feel even simple games could sound complicated if you keep having to bounce between stuff. To me it just feels like a "roll dice and these mechanics make you roll dice more while giving you something to do with those dice".
This doesn't JUST feel like a complicated game, but also a confusing review. Can't judge based off of this :/

This seems like a game that was designed to be a digital experience adapted to a physical game with all the things to keep track of. Hell, the bones of a slay the spire rogue-like are all here. Co-Op board games are already a tough sell for a lot of people and this seems like its just a bit much. It's interesting that a game based on a game celebrated for it's simple mechanics has so much needless complexity.
It sounds like this game is too complicated for its own good. A shame. A Sonic board game would usually be up my alley. Thanks for the review!

Completely agree with this review - it's very thematic, but overly fiddly and complex. However, I still rate it a 7.5/10.
that seems like kind of a weird thing to say and then do lol.
This really seems like this game was made with the IP first and mechanics were tacked on to other mechanics tacked on to other mechanics.
Also... points for a co-op game? Why are games still doing this?
Bad sonic games will keep coming out, analog or digital does not matter.
I'm a Sonic guy but not really a craft board game person. I absolutely can't follow how you're supposed to play this game or why it would be entertaining, which is a shame.
