Well they might have not known because they just saw some teeth that needed checkup and they probably thought that was all was wrong with her
Usually pounds don’t do anything medical on the animals, they just sort of keep them there. Animal shelters are the ones who typically spay, check on medical things, etc
It sounds as if they got there shortly after Rosie did, so the shelter probably hadnt properly booked her in yet and gave her to Hannah and the kids when they expressed interest in her. Which doesn't excuse them, but it does offer a possible reason

@@jaejae37 The vet at a shelter is supposed to check the teeth, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the teeth are in bad shape.
@@vogelkonigin3303 not saying it is but they don't do extensive exams. It cost too much. All my shelter dogs were taken to our personal vet right after adoption. Things get over looked in shelters. Even our own vet thought one of our dogs just needed a really good cleaning and maybe an extraction or two and she ended up needing more once she was under and they were able to get a really good look at her. Don't blame shelters. they do what they can't with what they have which isn't usually much.
I was actually pretty surprised at how well this was all handled. You went straight for a shelter and there was no mention of buying from a breeder, you took it seriously and stuck by Rosie even with all of those problems and extra funds you had to pay. This really is how you should get a dog. Your kids were really sweet with her too.

When I got my cat from the sheltrr I was told she was a girl. I named ger Annie. When we got to the shelter we were notified he was a male so I named him Andy. After his checkup we figured out he had tapeworm, fleas, and a terrible dirrarea sickness. Hes better now and I'm so happy. At the moment I felt like getting rid of him cause the bill would be over 1000. But I kept him because I knew the shelter would kill him. And what pains my heart the most is he had 2 siblings who either got adopted or were put down.

It happens more often then you think.
It happens so often. We found a dog sleeping underneath my dad's car, moved mountains to find her owners (the phone number on the collar was only a partial), and eventually tracked them down, they took the dog ... and within two days, they'd given her back to us.

Rosie's story made me cry... I just pictured her getting so excited to go home only to be abandoned... and the fact that she was so clearly neglected... why are people so cruel?? I am so happy that she has a new loving home. Thank you for adopting from the pound and giving a forever home to an animal in need. I love that you are such an empathetic person

I know this is an older video, but I just wanted to say thank you for adopting and for doing right by your dog when it wasn’t easy. I too have a rescued dog who was abused and neglected before I adopted her and while her past was nightmarish and it still makes me sad five years after adopting her, it makes me feel so much better knowing that I have provided her with love and stability for the majority of her life. I love that you are teaching your boys such responsibility and love for animals.

Hannah..... I am the foster coordinator for Rescue City, a rescue based in NYC that has done some puppy therapy sessions at the Buzzfeed NY offices. I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for rescuing this girl and doing everything necessary to make her feel comfortable. You guys are incredibly passionate and you are teaching your boys all of the most amazing values. I can not express enough how incredible this video was to see. I was so hoping you would chose to adopt, but to see Rosie’s story was so heartwarming!!! We don’t get to show people all the work that goes into getting dogs adopted (we are all foster based), so THANK YOU for showing everyone how amazing RESCUING truly is. @@Marie-di5gl How could you say you're okay with them...they left a dog with fleas for months until she had sores from scratching at her flees. And half of her teeth were rotten, meaning she never had any vet care. Her old owners were assholes.
@Ami Ria No I guarantee it wasn't..a shelter wouldn't hold a dog for months without giving it a flea bath and the shelter themselves had just examined the dog after she told them she wanted to adopt. It was obviously a very new intake at the shelter.

Please please please give Syrup Pie Person a tank upgrade!! Betta fish need at least a 5 gallon tank with a heater!! I would recommend looking up betta fish care information online. There is so much misinformation in pet stores especially about betta fish and their care. Taylor Nicole Dean is a great resource on youtube for information about betta fish care.

That is probably the 1.5 gallon which is the BARE minimum, but hopefully they'll look into the 5 gallon and also CYCLE the tank first!

At first I was devastated with the initial story of how she ended up at the shelter but look at the amazing family she found!! It was pure destiny, imagine if she had stayed with the other family, she would have never gotten the medical attention she needed! Also she looks identical to my doggo that passed earlier this year, had her for 11 years 💗 so even more feels, and as an animal rescuer thank you so much Hannah you've completely made my day with this video!! #AdoptDontShop
we had a great old cat who we had to put down a couple months ago he was great never hissed never bit never scratched just anted to lounge around and eat. he had a tumor the size of a fist that we didnt know about till it got to the point where he couldnt walk with his hind legs
+rexxed757 aw I know how difficult that decision is as I've had to make it many times for rescues, I had to do it for 2 cats a couple months ago, but thank you for giving him a great life and helping him even at the end 🙏💗

Gah! Sending love, but heaps of criticism: what the heck kind of shelter was this that they didn’t first, spay or neuter their animals? What sort of shelter doesn’t take care of medical procedures upon intake of the animal? How on earth did they not see this (trust me, with such bad teeth, smell is the foremost indicator, and you don’t need to be a doctor to see that something is wrong) and how did they not first disclose to the adopting family what the medical responsibility would be?
I am so happy you got a homeless pet in need. But you should call out this shelter. Not good at all. I’m so sorry you had to go through this financial burden! Teeth are expensive to take care of!

I am just guessing, but if it's a "kill shelter" where animals not adopted quickly are euthanized, they may not perform any of this beforehand. I know some shelters give spay/neuter vouchers to take to a specific vet after the pet is adopted. The cost is included in the adoption fee.
Most shelters won't take care of serious medical issues due to the cost. They let the adopters take over that cost. However, they should have still told the family that there was some kind of medical issue, even if they didn't know how bad it may be.

Thank you for being a great dog mom. I can’t believe Rosie’s parents would go to the shelter just to tell them to keep the dog. Poor baby girl, but she’s better off with you now. It breaks my heart to know how many pets are out there not being taken care of well enough. My dog had a lot of medical problems I wasn’t aware of when I adopted her. I wasn’t ready for the financial burden and I’m still paying for all of her vet bills little by little. But just like you, I see it as an obligation because she’s family. My dog is my daughter as far as I’m concerned and I will give her the world no matter what it takes.
That is the sweetest thing I've read in a long time. It really breaks my heart to know that any dog has suffered but it's amazing how you've welcomed yours in your home. Dogs are more then just pets and I have no way to express how much your comment fills my heart!
I hope Hannah filed a report against the old owners. Actual animal abuse can even just be the action of inaction.

So many parents do not fully commit, and it is refreshing to see a family pick a pet responsibly, adopt from a shelter, and also spay/neuter that pet. There are so many unwanted and neglected animals it is so important to adopt, thank you for being responsible pet owners and choosers :)

sorry but getting a dog from a shelter is not for everyone even if it's the best thing to do, it can be emotionaly hard and very stressful and also if you don't have alot of money it can be a huge risk. buying from a breeder is much safer for me and i don't have the emotional strenght to go through all that. But if i had a better life quality i would definitely go to a shelter.
I understand It is nice to adopt from a shelter but the shelter should have notified her about the dogs teeth and scratches. Just saying cause a lot of breeders take good care of there dogs
mathieu st-onge ok but shelters usually have puppies (no backstory or previous problem), and most even have some purebred dogs people abandon once they’re not puppies anymore. There’s honestly no reason to BUY a dog unless you’re looking for an exotic or specific breed AND you want it to be a puppy
Mel Katsu Some people just aren’t fit for getting a pet from a shelter, maybe they need a specific breed. I got my two cats from a breeder because literally no shelters have exotic shorthairs which is the pet we were looking for.

7:38 when you where crying about the poor little doggy I started crying too.. we had a dog named chewie (pronounced as: chef-ie) but he died on new years eve, by getting hit by a animal ambulance...your dog looks alot like chewie and I just wanted to say that you made the right decision!! My dog had to get 25 teeth removed ( due to previous owners) Afterwards she was like a new dog. Better energy, better breath and overall a better. Fortunately dog jaws get hard as rocks after about a month, its been a year now and she eats better and normal food.

Hannah MacDonald my cat who was a stray who came to my house when we took him to be fixed he had numerous Broken teeth where he can’t eat dry food any more, had previous untreated fractures in his jaw and many other problems from being a stray out in the world. But the one thing the vet told us was that he was most likely abused in a previous home because he was trained and was fine in the house and out and loves our dog and because of the damage of his teeth and jaw which suggested he was kick many times and not taken care of. It took him away to get used to use helping him but he is now the sweetest cat every and is such a cuddle bug and after two years he will now let us pick him up but still does not like it very much

My neighbors adopted a two year old terrier, and the same thing happened where a lot of surprises came out at the vet exam a week after adoption, she needed surgery and had to be treated for flea bites, so the neighbors decided to give her back to the shelter. The lady from across the street heard the story and since she lived alone and had the money she went to the shelter to try and adopt the dog, unfortunately she found out that the poor dog was put down just two days before. I actually got emotional when Hannah said she didn’t mind paying the money because the dog was now part of the family, because so many dogs who are returned are eventually put down when people realize they need extra care

I don't understand why shelters give out so much wrong informations. They told us our rescue could stay alone for 6 hours (he lived with a volunteer before), was perfectly healthy and about 6 years old. After staying with us for a week he lost a tooth (thank god, because we are first time dog owners and wouldn't have realized his tooth condition), we discovered that he's absolutely stressed after ten minutes alone and the vet told us he is well over 10 years old. All in all we payed around € 10.000 in special surgeries, treatments and dog trainers over the last two years, but i could have NEVER given him back after promising him a home. But if we had been given the right information we could have adapted to it and reacted earlier on.
@@loudmuzikkk All dogs will require a transition period. Your dog may have been okay left alone for 6 hours a day, but that was in an environment they had grown to trust; with a person they had grown to trust. All shelters should let new pet parents know that their dog will have a period of adjustment to the environment, and that once they understand you are trustworthy etc, the traits described by the foster family will show. I believe more info should be given to new parents about what they might face. This is one area where many shelters don't do the best they can.
Also, figuring out the age of a dog is very difficult. Many factors can contribute to the teeth looking worse than they should for a dog's age. It is possible your dog was closer to 6, but because it had a rough life it's teeth looked like those of an older dog. Guessing a dog's age is just that: a guess. Shelters can't be faulted for guessing incorrectly.
As far as the health issues go, most shelters don't have the resources to have a thorough vet exam done. Rescues take in dogs and get them vetted to the best of their ability because they have the option to not take a dog if they don't have the resources/funds to care for it. Shelters are usually a community-based organization that may receive mostly local funding. Often, they take in every animal that comes to them, without turning them away. You can't fault them for not having the resources/funds to fully vet an animal (which means looking for preexisting conditions that aren't contagious to other animals in the shelter). The fact that they took it in, didn't euthanize it, and placed it in a foster home says a lot.
If you want to make changes, become a foster home for shelter dogs. While the shelter dogs are in your care, get them fully vetted (because that is an option, just not one many people take because of the cost).
The same thing happened with my rescue and you can bet your butt I payed each and every one of those vet bills. I didn't care she had only been with me 48 hours, she's family!

I have two dogs named Bocifus and Duke and they are the most wonderful thing that happened to my family. My mom always said we would never get a dog and we ended up with Bocifus. Then we fell in love with duke when we saw him and got him. It’s a huge commitment to get a dog but the love you get from them is so worth it!

Napkin Beano Lol, my family sort of did the same thing. We had some time to kill, so we went to saving grace to play with the kittens and ended up fighting over which kitten we should get. (We were stuck on three choices) we ended up getting the one I wanted. Yay. My dad was mad when he found out😂 my mom was like "Hey honey, I bought you a beer. Also, we adopted a kitten. What do you want for dinner?" Lol, his reaction was funny.
Just a little tip: the plant in your bettas tank can cut his fins. Maybe invest in some silk plants for the tank 😊 and feed him pellets, they have more nutrition than flakes.

I didn't say will, I said can. And that's true. Spiky plastic plants like the one she has in the tank CAN cut the long delicate fins on a betta.. Please do some research.
I have 6 bettas, a 50 gallon goldfish tank, three 29 gallon guppy tanks (I breed them) and actually the plastic plants can cut male guppy fins as well. I think I know a little bit about fish since it's a hobby I've been in for 10 years.

For the Betta fish I think your tank should be a little bit bigger just so that they are happier and healthier! I recommend a 3.5 gallon tank! Love you guys!

5 gallons is best in my experience. As a bonus, the slightly larger tank is easier to care for.

Hiya! I've been keeping fish for a few years now and here are a couple of things you need to know.
1) *You can not get another fish with your betta.*
2)The tank he is in is a 2.5 gallon and is the legal mininum for a betta, but is not the respected minimum by the aquatics community. *They are very intelligent fish and should have a 5 gallon*, you can get these for cheap on craigslist or the dollar per gallon sale at petco. (I'm British so sorry if it isn't Petco)
3)Before adding the fish *the tank has to be cycled,* this is dificult to explain but it needs to be cycled before adding fish. You can't take out the fish now so *I'd reccommend getting live plants.*
4) I don't know if it's heated or not, but if it isn't it has to be.

I have a question, online it says some types of fish can go with bettas, is this incorrect? i was planning on finding fish that work with my betta but if you cant i wont.
@@leafmilj That's fine, there are few fish that work with bettas although you should only do this in a 10 gallon so they have enough room and it stops agression. I don't really reccomend it for begginers though as you need to know what to look out for, hope this helps ♡.
