I love Chieftain IRL, and I do play a Chieftain Lineup for funzies (Minus the Khalid as it's a bit to hard for the 3 and 5 to keep up in the higher BR) but honestly all three variants either need to either be moved down or given darts. When Chieftain came out, the most armored tank in existence was the IS-4. In War Thunder it is constantly being asked to fight things it was never designed to fight.
it’s all nice until you realize that all the chieftains are over tiered or maybe no over tiered but severely affected by br compression. i think that the chieftains are really good vehicles but because at their br the tanks around them are a lot of the time not well balanced and very op it isn’t fun to play.
I have a decent 2-1 kill-death ratio in the Chieftain Mk3 (haven't tried the others). It feels very solid. It might not be meta, but it often bounces shots and it can wreck face with its gun. Even goofy things like the ZT3A2 in its 8.3 lineup actually turn out to be decent. I'm not a fan of the 8.3 Rooikat but I think that's more down to me being a 'slow and steady' player (but alslo that the 8.7 Rooikat is clearly miles better, adding thermals and a simply more powerful gun at no cost in reload rate).
For me it took me almost two years to get 10.0 in Russia, but I mean I did stop playing for 3 months and I did play other tech trees for a bit before just grinding down Russia
Sometimes slow and steady is really nice to break away from the fast paced chaos of top-tier.
True, if it's not both teams doing nothing on spawn looking at each other, it's a russian push killing everyone in the way and winning the match.

God knows why they've moved to 8.7 with the mk5, I love the mk3 but even at 8.3 the armour meant nothing to atgms
