Do you know what fascinates and surprises me the most about this music? It could have been played hundreds of years ago, before electronic music existed.
@@iPodiMaster The sensibility of composition from the older eras in a very notable way contribute to the in-vogue formulation composition styles of today imo. Especially electronic music I'd say. You need to know the rules to be able to break em, or shape em to fit the current. I think this song works because of that fusion between what was and what is. Joel did an amazing job of weaving the classical orchestral and the uber-techy vibes together.
The absolute best instrument rendition of a Deadmau5 track I've ever heard. Did the full song, not abridged, and did a beautiful job. Constantly in time and crisp, sharp, neat cuts between the various sections. Plus no backing track. Honestly god tier 😍

I saw Meute perform this live just a few steps from the stage in Munich at the Tollwood Festival last night. Their energy is incredible, their interaction and handoffs perfect. It just generates joy! Love it!
I think technically it's a xylophone? Marimbas are defined by having a wider scale than a xylophone, and both can be made with wood or composite bars. I dunno, sounds like a marimba though lol
I could only imagine how special it was to be there. The video does some great justice. Music is great, along with the crowd the scenery, the twilight, the uniforms, the camera man and editor did an outstanding job and the audio was like I was physically there. Even the applause was perfect.
Yeah, have always loved this song. I bought a Deadmau5 At Play CD when I first started mixing in about 2010 and I've loved this song ever since. Even though I had a terrible time learning to count bars and beatmatch with this polyrythm. Top 5 for me
LOVE MEUTE...their work, the quality...they are like a live orchestra playing actual songs...it's just amazing. If i was a millionaire I'd sooo sponsor their work with 100% profits for them. We need more musicians like this.
It makes me smile that the vast majority of people are actually listening and enjoying the music instead of looking at it through their phones. Their tunes are just enchanting I guess... :)
As a long-time Deadmau5 fan, I would rank Slip near the top among my favourite of his tracks. But this is even better than the original. For starters, I never knew how much I needed a Saxophone solo during those Suspended Chords in the 2nd Build. It's also a much more impressive feat to play the Syncopated Ostinato on Analogue Instruments, especially when there is no beat to which to anchor yourself (Marimba), or when you have multiple instrumentalists playing it together in perfect synchronicity. The whole song comes together so beautifully in this version. The fact that this video has received more views than the original Deadmau5 track is well deserved in my opinion. Thank you Meute for a phenomenal rendition of this gorgeous track. Joel would be proud.
It is extremely impressive how the marimba player can follow his own rhythm without being pulled into the heavy 2/4 beat of the comp. This polyrhythm is crazy. They do the same thing in Kerboros, where the original is much simpler and straight forward.
@@Kijad Are you thinking about the 4:45 min mark? There it is the bari sax playing the solo. You can see the bass sax pausing in the background and the tenor sax participating in the chords. Also a bass sax will have a much deeper tone and sound. But the bari sax needs to play in its upper register to make such a delicate sound.
I don't think it is possible to do without either in-ears or a conductor. Meute uses in-ears for clicks and probably other pre-recorded sounds to help them keep the time.
Deadmau5 is like one of my Favorite Artists of all time and this is what I call a more than great cover of Slip! Thank you for that. Had tears in m eyes listening to it.
As a core fan of deadmau5 I can say that Meute never fails to deliver! What an incredible progression! And OMG the camera work is actually insane. One long continuous shot. Geniuses!

What a impresive version of Deadmau5. I can feel the love in your music. You guys are the revolution of this generation. Saw you already 5 times performing and I am going to follow you ever...
My brain is freaking out on this one. I keep wanting it to be in 4/4 time, but the syncopation of the marimba keeps shaking me from my lazy foot tapping. I keep thinking he's falling behind, but then everyone else is running the same rhythm and in perfect sync. I just keep listening to it trying to comprehend what's going on but it evades me! Amazing! Well done!
This is insane the rhythm. I have never heard anything like it. and the xylophone is of rhythm of course its supposed to be like that and its sounds so amazing. The basses puff and puff. I would could never do this on the saxophone only if I practiced for a really long time. Its amazing. Good job.

I agree with you, and it is amazing If you consider that even deadmau5 did a collab with an orchestra but this song still tops their collab
