This gameplay is from the official Early Access build (released July 30th). It is significantly more polished than anything we've played so far, and I'm starting to get that same sort of itch as early SC2 learning a new RTS! Note all the tips are for multiplayer 1v1, I'll be honest I didn't touch campaign or co-op yet (I didn't play it for 4 years in sc2 either xD).
All those years spent playing Stormgate before learning those tips were wasted. Thank you for saving us the time of all the painful Stormgate years that you had to go through.
Also, in the video settings, setting sharpness to something higher (like 0.5-0.7) makes the game look a lot better IMO; it makes the units and models look crisper and the details on the models clearer.
Useful info, thx winter. I would have to get used to the easier macro mechanics and QoL changes in stormgate. I approve of them and I think its for the better. RTS is an already difficult enough genre compared to fps/moba, etc you don't really need to battle with the engine and mechanics. Especially, since technology has improved a lot since sc2 has released. Let the computers do more calculations - the job they are supposed to while we enjoy the gameplay more. I am sure that Blizzard back in 1998 would have implemented more QoL changes if they had the ability then and now we have!
i remember where i was when I was watching the first ever gameplay/announcment livestream for Stormgate! (Driving back to C-school up the coast of Cali listening). hard to believe it's finally here and ready to actually play! cant wait to try it out and see how it compares to the king
Thanks for this video! Looking forward to jumping into this game finally. Been playing Warcraft 3 on again recently (on w3champions) and hope some of those skills transfer over haha

I think stormgate has raytracing - maybe that is included in ultra settings - and this is what could be causing performance issues - of course you can always just dlss quality it or get 2x fps for a hard to tell if it is even on feature being off
i kept selecting my workers and hitting B to build in my first match and it really screwed me up lol. i rebinded the Q of the quickbuild menu to B but idk if ill keep it that way
Tbh, this game really should have "upgrade branches". Things like maybe you can choose between Bob's that mine faster or two Bob's in one that Mine the same speed as before. The idea being.that if you think it's a macro game, you choose the better mining. Maybe just for etherium so it works for certain builds. While if you expect a lot of worker harass, having twice as many to kill makes it a lot harder to just clear them all out. Then you do this with other units like lancers. Faster or tankier etc etc. That way you'd have a lot more ability to truly be an individual while playing the game. You can have the guy who's "really good at base defending and being greedy then late game booming with extra etherium mining". And stuff like.this is important. You need to have the top players have clear ways to make themselves noteworthy to make an rts last. On.the backs of people actually good at the game are the millions of drones trying to replicate the success of successful players. That's what keeps these sorts of games alive and thriving. If this game never gets a pro scene, there will never be the drones replicating them to create a player base.
@@atlan5139 Frost Giant had $41M to work with, most of which they've already blown through. SC2's budget was never released (outside of a publishing error by the WSJ stating it was $100M, which they quickly corrected). Stormgate may be the biggest budget RTS in history for all we know.
@@allanshpeley4284 I can say with certainty its not lol, you have to realize the sheer amount of people who were working on SC2, with a longer dev cycle and far more backing on top of massive marketing compared to stormgate. That 40 mil Frost Giant got was what sustained the whole company not just Game budget per say too. I agree theres certainly some issues with Stormgate for sure for the budget but if you are trying to make the argument it was more expensive then SC2 then your just looking to shit on Stormgate with things thats are clearly false.
thanks to WC/starcraft I still use ctrl +3 for an example for base or Bob plus other for groups of building same type ( ctrl 4 all unit buildings : adding another shift 4 , ctrl 4 ) . I don’t know I get used to it and I feel okay with it, I don’t like this hot keys changes ( for an example yes hot keys from game shows you which unit you can build, but it doesn’t show quickly which are building in specific order in building which provide unit - can be game changer. For an example do you already order few range units and you need melee tank units. But I don’t know. Maybe someone will like it. I like this game after all. Warcraft was too slow, StarCraft was too fast for me. In this game speed is balanced. Fits me. I can easily manage producing, attacking, defending, macro generally. Despite hate and reviews I believe in devs.

Hullo- Game designer here (not affiliated with Stormgate)! In general, we usually don’t want suggestions from folks for what they would like to see when they run into something that needs improvement- instead, being super specific about how the issue in question made you feel, how you reacted to it, what exacerbates/ameliorates it, what circumstances it shows up in most, etc is the most useful feedback you can give! here's a fun fact: Starcraft art direction was explicitly intended to be store-brand Warhammer 40K after a licensing deal with Games Workshop fell through and I will say that it freaking shows in how bog-standard uninspired 90% of the units look. Protoss look best and Zerg has some iconic designs, but Terran are absolutely cookie-cutter. On average the models don't look particularly imaginative, particularly not when compared to what they were trying to copy - even in the sequel with Blizzard as an enourmous company. Stalker looks like a tower defense game reject. Roach? ... and the Ravager lmao? Come on. Stormgate models look great in my eyes. I particularly like the Weaver, the Kri, Robot Dog, the Lancer, the Vector, and Celestial buildings. They are cool af. The worst models like the Hornet I find are at least serviceable. I think the unit designs show more ingenuity and originality than SC2 art direction - and in fact so do dozens of these "soulless" mobile games. If you want to see actually terrible art direction, a great example would be Blizzard's latest RTS attempt with W3: Refunded's new unit models. You can dislike the cartoonish stylization (I don't), but droning on about "sOuLlEs" compared to Starcraft is a bit too much. Pipe down, Patricia. I know you're used to looking at four types of "generic man with gun" and "bug monster" for like a decade now, but do get a grip and take a honest look at it. You'll realize that SC2 put function first and did that marvellously, but is not particularly imaginative in most of what it does. We good now?
