- We feel tensions daily, in our lives, work or leadership; varied tugs-of-war (work-family, money-meaning, stability-change, self-others). Faced with such dilemmas, either/or thinking is the norm - weigh the pros and cons, make a choice, move on. Yet either/or thinking is limited at best and detrimental at worst, and can lead to ongoing vicious cycles of polarization, conflict and paralysis. There is an alternative. Over the last 25 years, Dr. Lewis's research demonstrates why and how both/and thinking helps embrace tensions and more creative, effective and lasting solutions to problems. Dr. Marianne Lewis is the Dean of the University of Cincinnati Lindner College of Business and is a distinguished professor of management with a wealth of experience in higher education. Dr. Lewis also recently released her new book Both/And Thinking with Wendy Smith this past year. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
