    A clear-calm mind is what everybody wants and I'm grateful for having it. I feel utmost silence in my mind such that I can focus on anything effectively. I feel a gentle sensation throughout my body as a result of deep meditation. I have attained control over my mind and I allow only positive thoughts to enter in. My habits have uplifted my mood and I'm happy about this.

      But this is NOT the goal of meditation / mindfulness. The goal is not to control your thoughts and “only allow positive thoughts in” or even to silence your thoughts. This is impossible. None of that is the goal. This is a common misconception.
      The goal of meditation/ mindfulness is simply to observe and let it go… _without judgement._ Thoughts are neither negative or positive, they just *are.* There is no way to silence our minds or experience only “positive” thoughts. It sounds like you haven’t studied meditation/ mindfulness to say these things.

      @@jodiescott8731Hi! It was a 10 minute unguided meditation. Just set a timer. Usually I follow my breath. If I’m in a stressed out state I will say inwardly: In then out and so on. I sometimes include the practice of counting down and counting up. This involves saying inwardly: 30 then 1, 29 then 2, 28 then 3, etc. It’s great way to train your attention. Hope this helps!

    I remember talking to an African, he was here for work. Super awesome dude, always positive. His wife was dealing with depression coming to Canada. He said the medication given for depression isn't the same at home. His home they make you go into community mode. Everyone gathers for you and with you to do things in the community. Other wives would help her. She went back home to receive the care she missed the most.

    Been meditating for more than a year and a half, every day with only a few days missed now, and I can say my life changed significantly for the better. I started small (basics, 3 minutes a day) and then incorporated 10 minutes of Headspace mindfulness meditation after brushing my teeth, every morning. Now it is a routine I hardly would like to give up and when there're moments of stress (resistance to the idea of practicing mindfulness) I find that just getting started, will afterwards resolve by itself.through the very act.of meditating in a mindful way. This is a skill that, once honed, can be used again and again and again.

Now, I can’t imagine a day without formal meditation and informal mindfulness. It has allowed me to find more acceptance, happiness and the ability to be more present more often.

    I really loved this talk. I've been mediating for the past 10 months, and have experienced the benefits: I have come to accept my anxiety, live with it peacefully, and it happens this has reduced my anxiety. I'm sleeping 8 hours a day (sometimes even 10), when a year ago I needed to take medication to sleep. I am kinder to myself, and I also think others (my close friends tell me I am more loveable). I tend to be kinda impulsive, now I can catch myself before I burst out (most of the time). I concentrate better at work, I have reduced my news intake and generally negative media intake, and list goes on and on... But what I really loved about this talk is that it takes midfulness to the next level. Mindfulness is not just meant to help us as individuals, but as a society. AMAZING!

      A photographer is taking a picture, he has the camera in his hand. But if that camera is moving up and down, he will not be able to take any picture perfectly. That picture will be blurred or it will be spoiled. So in order to take a perfect picture he has to hold that camera completely stationary.
      In the same way when a person meditating, the mind become the camera and the object becomes the energy of God,the Cosmic Energy,or the universal spirit or universal Energy. So when the mind takes a picture, first of all the mind has to be stationary, it has to be concerned.
      If the mind is moving up and down there'll be no experience of God and that's what happens to many people. But when the mind becomes stationary, through meditation , through concentration, then the mind is in a position to take picture of that Universal Spirit. So that is why, in order to experience, to get the experience we have to understand that we have to control the mind , make this mind stationary ,which is very important.

I have a lot of pain and surgeries and it is very hard to distract myself from the pain I do breathing exercises and been a meditater for quite a few years. a few areas. I have lost my passion which was the love and ability to see my grandchildren, this really threw me for a loop I did not see this coming I have mostly detached from it after 18months. My daughter-in-law is a narcissist. I resolved I can still love them and pray that this will will change. I have to get my sparks back. I had things I was passionate about but couldn't follow threw because of my health. I meditate to turn my thoughts off. But it doesn't work on my emotions. Feelings are painful especially grief have to be felt. But for how long? There are 2 opinions 1. They need to be controlled. 2. They need to be felt. 3. That is what I need to know? Meditation works and positivity. I now have a great deal of positivity affirmations and live a comfortable life. So that is not a problem anymore.

    thank you so much for this talk. It validated myself, this morning, reinforcing my belief in me and my sound mind. Left a romantic relationship with a Narcissist recently. Still dealing with their gas-lighting but, like after a hard bicycle ride or doing those leg exercises that hurt so much; the first day after, you just ache, moaning and groaning about the pain. The following days you revel in your new found strong feeling and commend yourself for subjecting to that pain. Peace

      and how do you do that?

    • @maddarena
      @maddarena 3 роки тому +11

      @@illyrosen9772 The simple way is to think about the situation when you felt love. Like hugging somebody you love, a child, or even your pet. The best memories are when you felt the mutual love that you shared with somebody. But other happy memories are good too, like watching beautiful landscape or feeding birds. It is an individual thing. When you think about moments you felt love you start feeling love. It doesn't even have to be a real memory. You just have to think about something that makes you feel love. It works the same with all emotions. Thinking about the moment when you felt an emotion connects you to this emotion and you start feeling it (generating it). Sad moments, angry moments, peaceful moments, etc. After some practice, you will be able to generate love just by wishing to feel it, and eventually, you will feel it almost all the time. It will be harder to do when you are in a bad mood but it still works, you just have to make a bigger effort.

    Not just through mindfulness, but learning about the Taoist, Buddhist and Stoic beliefs that are at its core, I see now it is possible to self treat chronic depression and anxiety. I was convinced that my forever narrative was that I would always be this way, it’s in my family, it’s from being raised by certain kinds of emotional role models, etc., and I’d forever be on meds. I’m a family doctor and see it so much every day. Since starting on this road, and though I’ll never get to perfect enlightenment, which should not be the focus, I have become less worried, less down, less anxious, and recommend it now to patients. Some still need meds to get out of the present hole they’re in but I can say too that it doesn’t have to be a permanent thing. What a life changer, by re-creating one’s mind. For the first time I’ve SLOWLY started to cut back the dosage and not felt a relapse. Fingers crossed.
