- This is the 2021 Slingshot R Automatic model. For 2021 Polaris continues to used thei own in-house Prostar engine. It is a 2.0L 4cyl engine mated to a 5 speed automatic transmission. What do you think, is it better than driving a manual transmission?

I drive a Slingshot SL with paddle shifters I find it very fun and responsive when you get the RPM's up higher before shifting ( 4,500 ) . You're not always on a open road so automatic does come in handy when stuck in traffic !
That’s where it comes handy. I know here in Orlando with all the congestion, the autocycle would be great

I hope to buy one in a few years. I love these. Love the way they look. I want auto though and can use the paddle shifters if I don’t like complete auto. Just want a fun ride for nice warm sunny days where I can go joy riding.

@@jdbmoto it was an Automatic. The paddle shifters isn’t rlly needed so I don’t know why would there really be a need for it. It was the exact color I love the color. When you drove it did it give off a lot of heat? Like the inside area?
I didn’t notice any heat, but I also ride a Yamaha FJR which can cook your legs on any given day
@@jdbmoto oh okay. The day that my mom and I rented it was 84 degrees yes it was hot. But the slingshot had our legs cooking.
They just released an update software for the autodrive (automatic) and everyone who has gotten it are very happy with the big improvements in shifting

Sounds like this is a perfect candidate for a CVT.
I had a Dodge Caliber for about a year and man was that a fun little roller skate to blast around in!
Powerband was strong in every 10 mph 'segment' including 70 mph passing.
You literally only had to 'think' about jumping up 10 mph and boom you were there.
They have to in my opinion either revise the gearbox or revise the software
It's not an automatic transmission! It's an autodrive transmission, basically speaking it's the computer shifting a manual transmission for you. The reason why Polaris didn't go with a traditional auto transmission or a CVT is because those would put the vehicle too far above the weight for its class to be sold as an autocycle. My 2022 Slingshot R w/ autodrive and paddles is perfect for me because my wife and I tend to take long trips in it, and a traditional manual is a bit out of the question because of injuries I sustained in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Polars said the automatic is 75% of there sails. So more people rather the automatic. Me to I have a automatic love it. It could shift faster
I get it! Automatic transmission is convenient and it doesn’t take much to drive. Maybe it needs a dual clutch and it will be the perfect trike?
I know how to drive a manual transmission. Did it for 20 years. I’ve had enough of that.. automatic for me…
Rented one for 8 hours the other day and wasn't impressed. Auto is very clunky. Putting into M mode is way better! Something like this though I think you need stick. But the whole thing I just don't see it being worth 30k+. Steering wheel felt small to me as well and bothered me. Think the price being around 15k would be more like it. All it is, is a frame, plastic and engine. Don't see where it's worth 30k. Had comfortable seats though.

Man yall sound like my dad haha ! He saod man this shyt i rough haha i love it once it gets hot it shifts way better i have 2020 no paddle shifter but once you get use to it you learn how to shift with the gas pedal took me about 2 months
@@ng5279 I'd upgrade to the paddle shifters. Think you can, can't recall now on 2020 model. Have full control that way then.
I had a new 2021 Slingshot R with auto. I got the update for the transmission and I hated it. the rear end was noisy and the u joints clunker and it stopped running 2x. I sold it.

@@jdbmoto I don't drive hard and fast, but the fwd is smooth and doest pull at all. The only thing it's is alot smaller than the slingshot, I love when the turbo comes on.

JdbMOTO No disrespect but you was operating that slingshot completely wrong, and so you know it doesn't drive like a car so you shouldn't operated that way. I made the same mistake when I bought my 2022 Slingshot R w/ autodrive and paddles, but I learned very quick that it operates differently from a car.
