In this video I show you how to take your mobile app idea to designing & building it and most importantly monetising your idea so you can build a real business that is bringing you money. It is actually very easy to build a mobile app. The hardest part is coming up with the idea and then next hardest part is following through & executing fully.
This year I have been mentored by Ian Scarffe who has showed me how to build an app using Lean Startup. His advice has been nothing short of incredible and I strongly recommend utilising him as a mentor for any projects that you might have.

Hey All, I want to address a consistent question that comes up on here which is "How do you make sure no-one takes your app idea and make it their own?". Here is the truth of it. That comment, is coming from "fear". It is not coming from "Abundance". Most of you say you have an amazing multi-million dollar app idea and most of you do nothing about this out of fear of someone else stealing your idea. The subcontractors you will need to get your idea from concept to reality are not in the business of rolling out global apps and building a business around that. They are not entrepreneurial. They also have to sign a legal agreement that specifically (a NDA) prevents them from commercialising the information they receive and any breach of that would cripple there businesses. So get real guys. Ask questions that relate to "how you get your idea off the ground" not "how you can stop other people from doing something". It is a completely irrational fear and it is holding you back from success. Sharnee
If the idea is good, someone will copy it. But that's beyond just the world of apps, that's business. I guess I'd be worried if no one copied my idea.
how then did you prevent someone from taking your idea when posting your idea it on Elance before you partnered with one of the 48 subcontractors and getting them to sign a NDA?
Thanks Christian, we used a sample case of the project to narrow down the 48 vendors to 3 people. I then spoke with each of the guys to know about their teams and skills. I got them to sign a NDA. They quoted exactly on our high level requirements subject to detailed requirements being validated. We then spoke with the 3 again and I picked the guy I felt most comfortable working with. We have never had an issue with ideas being stolen.

Fantastic Sharnee, this was a great presentation, however my feedback to you would be to probably add a few more details about the "Build" part. As substandard vendors could be very expensive. Also with what you mentioned about the team, it's important to realize that good technology practices (Agile or otherwise) can save tons of time and money as we build the tool. Prototyping is just one part but to understand infrastructure, scalable IT and appropriate Software architecture is also very very very important, as most tools, post funding, end up getting rebuilt. You could have also made mentions about protecting ideas, copywriting, getting NDAs signed and other standard outsourcing procedures and precautions. Finally I must tell you that your presentation was commendable because you some across as an honest, sincere and a very helpful person. Cheers.

I would like to address two questions in which I haven't really understood/making it clear for me.
1. What's the difference between an in-app purchase & user pay? Aren't they the same in which the user pays in both scenarios?
2. What do you mean by merchants? (200,000 of them)

I really liked the way you taught the whole concept. I wish you were a teacher at my university and we had this subject to take! Excellent video. I have an app idea and started to research youtube. The first video I selected sounded interesting from its title. Most important for MVP is getting the minimum functionality working as quick as possible so you can hit the market first. MVP does become a sticking point for most people, particularly perfectionist's, but get some functionality going sooner is better than nothing later. Most important about outsourcing is managing risk. Know your scope, the time that it will be delivery and at what cost. Manage these variables like a hawk. Find a developer on Upwork, there is many talented people in the world ready and willing to help you at a fair price. Good luck my friend, Sharnee

This was a really good video for me. You explained basic concepts, in steps and with examples using numbers scenarios for monetization, that I never understood quite as well as I would liked to have understood. I saw a presentation by George Berkowski on TEDx and he explained that the amount of time people spend on their phones and that the number of downloads has plateau'ed, which indicates that the market has reached saturation. He was also saying something to the effect that in order to be significant, your app has to be disruptive and be able to displace top apps.
The numbers you're using (such as 1 Million downloads; 100K merchants etc) are quite optimistic/large. What would you say to new developers, trying to enter the market, that would encourage them to believe that this is achievable.
