I love that quote "it was A bad day , that doesn't make me a bad teacher and it doesn't make the students bad students " Being a kid is hard too , I think sometimes adults forget that!
my whole fourth grade team felt like this yesterday. something was so off this week for both me and the kids. next week is brand new! we can do this. so glad to have this honest community so i can see I'm not the only one.
"It was a bad day, and that's not a bad thing." Thanks for that tidbit, I needed it after the day I had on Friday , and the aftermath that will almost certainly ensue tomorrow. Trying to be more grateful and positive. Keep up the good work!
Thank you for being real! I have been teaching 20 years and have had many moments like you. Even this school year. You are a great teacher and you are taking it hard because you care. It is getting harder to teach every year because we don't have parental support in many cases. Especially the students with behavior issues. We all just try our best to teach. Don't take it so personal. You are young and have a long wonderful career ahead of you. Keep your chin up and your smile on!
I love your honesty! I was just hired midyear for my first teaching job, so I love having these videos to relate to. I'm also young (21) so seeing another young teacher doing well really inspires me!
I just want to say I LOVE your videos! This is my first year teaching 4th grade and I have some of those same kids. Hang in there! You are a fantastic teacher! My kids and I are LOVING your resources!
I've been going back and rewatching these videos. I love seeing the difference between the current year and this past year. You so deserve how happy you are this school year!❤️❤️
I've been teaching for 28 years in a Title One school. I totally relate to everything you say. I commend your instinct to relax and recharge. If you want to be in the classroom for the long haul you have to do that or you will burn out, and you are too good a teacher to quit teaching.
You're not alone. This week was super rough for me! Late hours, overwhelmed, observations, & just drained. I was losing my patience w my kids & by Friday was so easily agitated. It happens. We're human too. You're great! Don't think otherwise :)
I think you are experiencing what all teachers are right now...I know I feel the same way! When I left this week, I kept thinking..."I like doing this, right?" As a seasoned teacher of 23 years there ups and downs, highs and lows. Hang in there, you are an awesome, organized, and caring teacher! You pour a ton into what you do! Keep it up! This profession is worth it. You are helping mold our future! Next week has got to be better!
It's so admirable to see that you are passionate and extremely dedicated to your job. But there's something else we all need to remember. We're human. We have our up days and down days. Your positivity is truly infectious. Keep smiling! 😊
Love watching your videos. I strive to get my classroom as organized as your classroom. I'm working on it. The Monday-Friday bins are a lifesaver! Keep up the great inspirational videos! 👍😁💕
I truly appreciate how transparent you are because it's real life as a teacher. I'm a 2nd grade teacher as well and also a perfectionist! :) We have a lot in common! I can relate with your emotional roller coaster. As passionate teachers, we have high expectations and while it keeps us driven, it can also cause us to be too hard on ourselves. These kiddos need us! Keep on keepin' on! :)
You are very young and my wish for you is that you work on relaxing and not striving for perfection. You will be disappointed more times than not. Teaching is more art than science. Know you are doing a great job, and learn to relax and not take everything to heart. Most actors know how difficult it is to predict what children (and animals) will do!
I love that you're so open and honest. I teach the 2nd grade as well with a few "Chuckles" and "Knuckles" and can TOTALLY relate to what you're going through. I had an in-school release day yesterday and needed to find a sub and 5 people told me that they wouldn't be able to come in for me because my class is so difficult. 😫 The only thing that gets me through my day is to know that I'm trying my best, laughing bc the other emotion would be crying and lots of WINE! 🍷🍷🍷 Keep doing what you're doing and hope that next week will be better! ❤
I completely agree with you! When you are having those days when your students are all losing their minds (😂) it's easy to be put in a funk. But you are right it's just a bad day and you have believe that tomorrow will be better!
Your honesty is refreshing! I also teach in a Title I school... it's rough! We've had 8 snow days that completely threw my kids off. The inconsistent schedule is really hard on those kids with an already inconsistent home life.
Thanks for being so raw and real! I definitely had the same kind of teaching week, and your blog made me realize that it's OKAY and that I'm not alone!!
I can definitely commiserate with your emotions in this video. I have felt this way, too. I commend you for sharing your thoughts and providing a healthy way of dealing with a bad day by going to the gym. I loved your statement about finding the best way for your students to learn and putting yourself in control of your classroom. I am coming back to watch this again because it really resonates with me.
Thanks for showing your realness!..I can totally relate to you right now....I've been feeling really down lately because my kids have been terrible this week and I take it out on myself...but your video makes me feel better that I'm not alone feeling like this sometimes. ☺
I love your classroom!! And can FOR SURE relate to you with having tough students that nothing you do makes a difference. One thing I notice/ have a suggestion for is to get your students to help you with more! Like changing the units in their math folders, or organizing the book bins. Those are things that you can easily show them how to do! Im such a control freak too but seriously I started to let go and allow my students to do more things for themselves that I was always doing and it takes such a load off me everyday!
I look forward to these vlogs all week. :) Seeing your honesty and hard work make me feel better about what I'm going through as a teacher and motivates me to do more and be more positive. Thank you!!! You help me remember WHY I'm doing this! You rock! Also, I LOVE the magnetic letter system you came up with! Totally using this idea on Monday!
I love those magnetic trays and how organized it is on the organizer. I always have a hard time storing the letter magnets and keeping them looking neat. Thanks for the great idea!
I just want to tell you, I love your videos! I still have two years left of schooling so I won't begin teaching until 2019. Your videos really encourage me to stay motivated and keep going with my classes even though with two small kids at home it's easy for me to get discouraged. I watch all your videos and write down the ones I need to rewatch when I do actually get my own classroom. Your tips and tricks are awesome. Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos and to keep me excited about my career goals. P.s. every time I watch your videos... I have to make myself an iced coffee. Thank you for the extra calories 😉
I can totally relate to this video. I don't know what it was about this week, but it was extremely challenging for me, too. I talked to more parents this week than I have all year. It is good to know that I am not alone! Let's push forward and make next week much better! I also purchased your vocab slides last weekend and implemented them this week, and they were wonderful! Thank you for being a great resource for other teachers! 😊
I know exactly how you feel. I work at a Title 1 school and it is difficult. The students see that you love them, but still act out. I'm so sorry for your frustration because it's not easy to teach. You're an awesome teacher. I'm a perfectionist and it can be really hard when things aren't going your way. Keep up the good work and get some rest.
Please don't be so hard on yourself! I've been teaching 25 years and watch you because you are so. Motivating! Keep up the great ideas! I teach in a Title 1 school to and not every day is my best day. Luv u!
You are an amazing teacher and roll model to your students. This video really does show how much you care for your students and your overall positive outlook on life. Stay strong, continue looking forward and hold your head up high for you truly go above and beyond for your kids and yourself, both as a person and professional. Very inspiring xxx
thank you for keeping it real. I look at videos and sometimes I feel like I'm the only teacher who feels stressed and has days where I'm overwhelmed and frustrated don't get me wrong I hate to see you cry but it's very nice to know that it's not just me.
You are DEFINITELY not the only one who is stressed or overwhelmed or frustrated... I definitely feel that way A LOT. Probably more than I like to admit. I think all teachers do, some are just better at hiding it than others. You are so welcome and I'm so glad you could relate to what I'm going through!
I am so glad to hear about your doubts too! I live in South Africa and thought it was behaviour problems mainly because we a developing country. I love your channel, I would live to see a lesson as well 👍
I just wanted to tell you that I love your videos! I love how real they are and that you aren't afraid to show the bad with the good. I am a new High School English teacher, but I love seeing your elementary classroom and how organized everything is!
I want to tell you that I love your videos and you are such and inspiration! I am going to major in elementary education starting this fall and you have made me become even more excited for when I can finally have a classroom of my own!
Idea for future videos --- I need help with Guided Reading groups .. how you put them in groups ... how you decide what do to in the groups .. how you keep track with their progress in the groups .. when do you decide if to re-evaluate or move students within groups-- as a whole or each individual student as warranted -- how you plan for guided reading ... what IS guided reading to you .. what is the purpose, focus, goal, etc.
You are doing a wonderful job and thank you for your vlog, I love it! I don't mean to freak you out but when I was pregnant I was unbelievably tired in the beginning. I hope that is okay that I told you that. Take care and thank you again. Sincerely, Jen
You are such a caring amazing teacher, don't ever forget it. As a college student can you address how to handle the stress that is going to come as a first year teacher? Watching you update your library I'm thinking when will I as a upcoming teacher have time to focus on things like that. I'm already overwhelmed thinking about it lol
I really enjoy your channel, it's nice to know that as a teacher we experience the same emotions. I teach in a high school in Scotland (ages 11 to 18) but work with low ability pupils across the school.
Love your videos but it just seems exhausting! I've been a primary teacher in the UK for 10 years and I try to leave school by 5 and don't do too much at home. I just don't want you to burn out! I'm slightly obsessed with your labels though 🙌
I love your videos so much!! I always look forward to them! I feel like I'm living my life vicariously through you, since I'm still in college to become a teacher. Whether you have good days or bad you are still an inspiration to me!
Michelle, Another awesome vlog full of honesty, reflection and raw emotion. Thank you for sharing it all! Your students are so lucky to have you! I rate this vlog (and you) " highly effective "! 😊
Makes me so happy to see your videos in my notifications, yay!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are so inspiring, just love ya!!! I have been using my lesson planner from you, love the copies to make and to do list. I made my own book like you suggested (by choosing certain slides) however, I am finding I have to add a text box when I go back to type in plans.....Im not the best with powerpoint, so not sure what Im doing wrong!
Watching this video before I go to bed litterly the title has described my last few days of school there is 5 days until finals And I’m freaking out!!!
So... Pretty much a normal teaching week huh? One minute we wouldn't swap our kids for anything and the next we are wondering if anyone would notice that we were hiding out in the bathroom for an hour. I'm still on my summer break at the moment, but only for another week. I am hoping for a majority of upbeat days but am also thinking about getting a TV in the bathroom so at least I can keep myself occupied whilst hiding out. It's the ONLY quiet room in the place!

Great video...thanks for keeping it real....I feel the same way...we just had Xmas break...and MLK day...but I'm exhausted too...but I think you're a bit hard on yourself... you're doing an amazing job! I can see you work extremely hard... give yourself breaks..and TRY not to work so much... seriously....yes naps do help...

as a junior in high school aspiring to be a teacher, im almost at the time to start looking into colleges. what are some good colleges i could look into? im not worried about location
hi i was wondering where i can get the ipad charging station. i have 7 for my personal classroom use....but could charge a couple from a small charger. your classroom looks great! i can not claim that on most days....:-) Laura
I love that quote "it was A bad day , that doesn't make me a bad teacher and it doesn't make the students bad students " Being a kid is hard too , I think sometimes adults forget that!
i like that saying too
Thank you for validating what the teaching profession entails. It's non-stop and never ending!!

Asleep by midnight?!?! That's a wild night for me. I'm in bed by 9:30 and I AM tired in the morning.
yep- i'm in bed by 8:30, but i also wake up at 4:30. I am a much more productive teacher in the mornings getting ready for students.
I'm in by 9!
You are doing a wonderful job and thank you for your vlog, I love it! I don't mean to freak you out but when I was pregnant I was unbelievably tired in the beginning. I hope that is okay that I told you that. Take care and thank you again. Sincerely, Jen

I love your videos and especially love these weekly vlogs! Glad to know I'm not the only one who has rough days!

Love your weekly vlogs!!!! You give such great information for soon to be teachers!!!!!!

Love how you think
What a nice reflection

Can you do a video on how to use power point
Get some rest!!
I'm totally burnt out too and I don't know why either.....
Hi! I loved your blog this week because it's so "real life" of a teacher and it's nice to know we are not alone! Hang in there! Every day is a NEW day, so the "bad" days won't always be each day!
Anyhow, how do I find your Amazon store? I've been searching and have no clue how to find it!
You need an electric hole puncher. It's so nice!
I just LOVE LOVE LOVE your vlogs... You always make my day😍😍😍😍 salutations from Lebanon👋👋
Love watching your videos. Even though I teach middle school I get some good ideas from your videos!
hope rest of the School jut think positive
just think positive 🚫 jut think postive.
I love your organization and your library labels are so cute. What is the font you use for those?
Hi! I enjoy watching your videos! I appreciate that you do put the good, bad, and ugly of teaching life. Quick questions, the labels on your games bins, did you make those? Also, how will your groups use your cookie sheet magnetic letters? Will they be making words and writing them? Thanks!
Great video...thanks for keeping it real....I feel the same way...we just had Xmas break...and MLK day...but I'm exhausted too...but I think you're a bit hard on yourself... you're doing an amazing job! I can see you work extremely hard... give yourself breaks..and TRY not to work so much... seriously....yes naps do help...
can you please do a video on guided reading? My school is JUST starting it and I'm overwhelmed
Hey everyone
What would happen if you went to your principal and talked to him/her about your disrespectful students? No help either?
I love your vlogs! I am graduating now in the spring and absolutely love your book bins and was wondering where they are from?
i love your videos even though i am only 10 years old
Do you have any suggestions for getting your files to load faster? For some reason every time I open your files, which are awesome, they take forever to open and sometimes freeze my computer.
have you tried to print the book labels on sticker sheets?
Hello! A friend put me on your channel and I have been addicted to watching your vlogs for the last few days! I have a random question, where did you get your phone case?! I am absolutely in love with it!!! I have noticed it throughout all of your videos!!! 😍
I love the show and book Curious george
When you said it was 7:20 I looked at the time it was 9:20 😁
Breya Grace when I read this comment I looked at the time. It was 7:20!
Did you spray those ice bucket/book bins in your back corner teal? I spray painted mine this year but I clearly didn't do the greatest job because the paint keeps chipping on the sides! I would love any suggestions you have :) Also... come join us in MCPS when you move to DC! :)
I was just wondering-what time does your school start? How long does it take you to get to school? It takes me about 25 minutes to get to school, and we start at 8:30.
What do you use for math worksheets?
I’m in bed by 9:30 during the summer, I’m 12 so that is why. During the school year I’m in bed at 8:30!
as a junior in high school aspiring to be a teacher, im almost at the time to start looking into colleges. what are some good colleges i could look into? im not worried about location
