I hate characters who don't really have codenames & just use their real names, because it's so very uninspired. They should just call her 'Shield', like how Hisako Ichiki goes by 'Armor'. It's short, simple, & describes her power at it's most basic level. Or call her 'Shields' to not be confused w/ S.H.I.E.L.D. (because I already know they're gonna try & use that as a joke).
The writer is trying so hard to sound young..be sublte put those things in the book like a logo or something...stating every culture reference is like explaining a joke. Deflates the issue

You have a good point, but i think that some of it might be the point. The cry of fitting into certain age groups and demographics could be part of what the writer is trying to say.
