This was amazing as a child to watch and as an adult I work at a 3D printing company. It made a replica of this out of aluminum and it was amazing. So many tiny part and screws and everything is fully articulated. Now I am making one out of printed carbon fiber. Loved watching you recreate these pieces.
Cain always scared the hell out of me. I was 8 or 9 years old when RC2 came out and the thought of this murderous alien-Like robot piloted by the brain/soul of a drug crazed madman was downright terrifying! As an adult I've always thought it was one of the coolest and most creative villains. I was SHOCKED when I discovered that you and many other prop fans were also big fans. They don't make em like Cain anymore! And hell, they didn't really back then either. He's a class of villain all his own.
I could never get on board with Cain. I dont know what it was about him but I didn't much like him but for some reason I've always been terrified of ED-209. It makes no sense, but even looking at a photo of him in my mid 30s I still have a thrill of fear. A robot that could be defeated by a staircase scares me. My mind is odd!
Watching you work through your problems is really the greatest service you can provide to us fellow tinkering makers. To know we arnt the only ones breaking things we just made or failing after significant time has been spent. Thank you so much for showing us patience and problem solving always prevails.
Some people hate on Robocop 2 but I still love it, all these years later. Robocain is truly the star of the show. I still remember how nightmare-inducing this badass was, having viewed the film as a child. I'll often launch the movie on Amazon Prime and skip to the scenes wherein Robocain is featured. The stop-motion work still holds up so well. What you're doing here is beyond great... a fully poseable Robocain is a true feat to achieve!
Cain is my number 1 robot! I built and animated him in 3D (Lightwave) on my Amiga 2000 with a live video background plate back in 1996... It wasn't great, but I got me in the door!
this is both inspiring and discouraging at the same time. As a model builder, I can only dream to be able to come close to creating models so detailed and visually pleasing. Thank you for sharing all of you work Adam. I will continue to strive for perfection, although realistically unattainable, it still pushes me toward that continuous improvement mentality.
I share Adam's opinion that RoboCain is one of the best movie robots ever made, so since January I'm doing something more or less similar: recreating it in 3D. Its shapes are so complex and diverse that perhaps studying the scenes from the movie, frame by frame, took even more time than the modeling itself.
I always really liked Robocop 2....was never sure why it got the backlash as i felt it kept a lot of the tone of the original....unlike 3 , the footage of the newer robocop prototypes cracked me up
I could write a book about Robocop 2, pop culture and all the mass media frenzy going on in 1990, the Wikipedia article on Robocop 2 cover's a good part of it. The short version is, Violence in comic books/movies and new gen video games had everyone in a panic. There was also the writers guild stike and using comic book writers to step in. Overall I think it was a great movie, that maybe went to far for the main stream at the time. (But is mild by todays standards) Several people also were very critical of the over arching Anti Corporate/Government message, controversial then, pretty much commonplace now.
I can see you really love what you do .... I used to be a machinist and I miss it... left the shop room to be a trucker....but I still miss the shop. One day I'll get my own thing going....
Cain is my all time favorite robot I 3D modeled all the parts. Building it is just another huge take. I 3D printed the legs section. Now moving up to the torso
For a sequel character, and villain too, he was quite menacing - uncontrollable and out of his mind :-) the moment he steps out of that truck and you just hear the pistons.
Cain is my favourite Robot/cyborg ever I love what you're doing here. Keep it going. I'm myself working on a 1/4 replica with full aluminum structure, just like the real stopmo puppet
That is incredible! I don't have a fraction of the skill to pull this off --- but I hope the Goodsmile Company's Cain has enough detail that it would give me almost as much joy to build.
"There's going to be a big call for this unit, and we'll make him right here in Detroit. That means jobs we can all be proud of, and make "made in America" mean something again."
I think you need an extra hand, a working hand, to hold the object you're working on so you don't have to worry about it moving on you. Love the work. I still think that you should fabricate an entire Cain from aluminum, but I know it would take quite a while to finish, but think of all the things you can master during that time. Just a nugget to ponder on.
Note to self. "120 thou" is apparently 3 mm. I appreciate those reference points greatly. :) Reminds me of how I remember that 144 km/hr is roughly 88.8 miles/hr. I remember that particular one solely because it kept being mentioned in the Back to the Future movies I had on VHS tapes subtitled to Swedish. Yes, I know it is closer to 142.91 km/hr, but that's how I remember it.
So, Is Cain finished? They're coming out with a model kit of Cain verrrrry shortly. Not as big and I'm sure not as detailed. What are the chances of you Mr. Adam that you could supply me with what you have done please? Thank you sir for sharing this video 😊
Adam, at 25:32 you pulled off the left arm and two washers dropped out. I didn't see them go back in and they appeared to remain on the base for the rest of the filming. You may want to check if you didn't already, off camera. :) Love watching the builds, love the tongue stuck out (I do this and now my daughter does too lol), love the passion. Keep it up!
Your previous video inspired me to print the Cain model out 1/6 scale I have 95% off it printed and roughly assembled just need to print some fine detailed parts and get some cabling and a pile of screws. Then it will be time to paint. Always enjoy your videos.
@@tested I would love to share my progress, which platform do you recommend sharing on? Would it be possible to get some close up shots of Adams model as I’m trying to get some details that I can’t seem to find. Again thanks for the response.
It seems the older I get the more I like RoboCop 2 🤔 but... I"M OVERLY EXCITED ABOUT THE SQUARE 5C COLLET! Cain robot is pretty bad a - - ! Looking back @AdamSavagesTested with Norm in Phils shop was such a great interview.
I think as time moves on, the vision of the future presented in robocop 2, and the underlying themes of corporate/government corruption become SHOCKINGLY accurate....
This year will be the 40th anniversary of Maschinen Krieger (aka S.F.3.D), the creation of Kow Yokoyama. Adam should do a one day build of a Maschinen Krieger kit.
Dear Adam. I’ve become very fond of your work. I was just wondering if you had ever considered creating a replica of John Constantine’s gold Holy shotgun from the Keanu reeves movie. It’s quite a stellar looking shotgun and I think you really enjoy the challenge. Upvote if any of you agree with me and would love to see that video.
You should totally take detailed pictures of all components from several angles, of the cain robot and share it with the world. So that it can be reproduced by fans. I would love to see a full CGI replica of this beautiful machine animated in a scene again. It would be amazing. Imagine It fully digital 4k ou 8k footage of classic robocot made with better special effects and even more details.
Wow! What a crazy model! Would love to see something like that done with a Warhammer Titan! Stop-motion.....there's a blast from the past. I remember making claymation and lego movies as a kid with an 8mm camera. I wonder if those reels still exist somewhere? I doubt it. Back in the days I dreamed of working at the Creature Shop. Heck, I'll be 50 next year, would still dump my "career" and go work at the Creature Shop! LOL
Awesome, I have the replica by Phil Tippett produced by 'Chronicle Collectables", while it is beautifully accurate and well painted, I would love to have one such as yours made in posable aluminum!
I've never seen a collet that didn't use a plunger to tighten it! Pretty cool chuck for your lathe! Of course I've been out of machining for close to 20 years now, so I'm sure there's plenty I haven't seen by now! lol
If you remade all the individual parts out of aluminum and replaced them on the figure is the figure still the same one you were gifted or a different one?

Many years ago, when the internet used to have that awful dial up sound, I spent the best part of three days waiting for a course of several videos of a guy building a scale model of Cain out of aluminium and other metals, in his machine shop. Now we have 3d printers and so on but plastic models just aren't the same when it comes to robots after watching that build.

I agree with you man. This is the greatest robot model designed for a movie. I loved it since the first time I saw it as a child.
MAXIMILLION FROM BLACK HOLE WAS A CLOSE SECOND
Always like the menacing look and the sounds of Robo-Cain. The arm mini-gun was brutal.
Cain is one of my favorite mechs I’ve ever seen designed. Please post a follow up after it’s been painted!

I'm sure the guys who made the original stop-motion puppet from RoboCop also felt the same way at some point....
Very cool. I can imagine these vids give a lot of inspiration and pointers where stuff goes wrong etc.

I always thought the best scene from Robocop 2 was the failed attempts in making another Robocop.
That scene was beautifully referenced in Iron Man 2.
@@RedHeadKevin CALL ;)
Those two disasters and Cain posthumously made Bob Morton a very sympathetic character. Security Concepts was never the same without him.
I LMAO at the one that pulls it’s own helmet off as a kid and I still do.
Beautifully done, but creepy as hell
Cain is my all time favorite robot

I really really love you. Please always stay that way.
when i first saw robocop 2 years ago that robot scared the hell out of me. great sequel .
Should look amazing when it's all done!

So you do have a use for MDF! Protect the lathe ways when changing the chuck.

When you finish replacing all the resin parts for aluminum ones, and if you put the resin parts to together, which robot is the original?
The one in the film
Now you know you will need a Robocop model in the same scale to complete the set.
One day build challenge?
The Cain robot it's the best robot made for a movie I think
One piece at a time. Small continuous projects.
