The KK vs 66 I wouldn't count as a slowroll, she shoved, there was a possibility that she had aces. Sometimes with a great hand you want to make 100% sure. But one time I had an ace high flush I was correct in my read that the guy had also flopped a flush but in his case he had a straight flush draw too. I can't explain exactly what it was about the way he re-raised all in gave me that feeling. The normal reaction I should have had was "yay he has a king and is going to pay me off big time." Instead I felt dread, logically I couldn't believe that there was any real chance that I would lose, and still I felt like I was walking into a giant trap. After thinking about it for a while, I straight up told the guy I had the ace high flush, if he was willing to flip over his hand and that we could go rabbit hunting it was agreed that I would fold and if he just had a king or a queen with some bad kicker he could make me look real stupid and if I was right and it didn't hit overly paranoid. I'd be keeping that gift a secret and make millions every day if I was able to be correct about things like that 50% of the time. It was just one of those times where everything felt like it was going too perfect and your gut tells you something about the situation is horribly wrong. And you are walking into a world of hurt even though you can't see how you could possibly lose.
Why would anybody engage in slow rolling? What's the point? Surely all player, especially of this caliber, know that it's considered a... no-so-nice thing to do. Just play normally.
Bluffing is the same as slow rolling! Trying to deceive the other players about the value of your hand is a huge part of poker. So why don't you have an attitude about bluffs also? Whinny B
no bluffing is not the same as slow rolling. bluffing is when you're trying to make your hand seem stronger to induce a fold from a better hand, slow rolling is when your decision is obvious like if you flopped the nut flush and your opponent goes all in, but you either intentionally wait to call or delay showing your hands just to tease your opponent the difference is while bluffing is an important part of the gameplay that could increase your winnings, slow rolling is completely unnecessary and only bad sportsmanship

I got called out for slow rolling once by total accident on my part. I was like dude I dropped the card by accident and continued to apologize to him but I guess his panties were in a bunch and he just never forgave me for it. So I continued to chop at his stack until I had all of it, which was just 2 hands later because dude was totally tilted. Also I get that Hellmuth is a bit of a dick but the dude is still one of the best poker players to ever play the game. Plus he’s usually right about people calling some of his raises with stupid hands. Not to mention Tony G is the absolute worst when it comes to etiquette same with that Justin whatever his last name is, the dude who looks likes a meth head. Last point on the already way too long of a rant, the game has changed so much over the last 20 years or so thanks to ESPN and all of their coverage of the World Series. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many idiots at the tables like I see nowadays. People playing face/rag all the time and catching too which I’ll never understand. I’ve had AA and AK cracked so many times thanks to shit hands catching on the board. Yeah it used to be fun.
Why is slow rolling bad etiquette? I see why talking about your cards after you fold is bad but isn’t the whole goal of poker to beat your opponent and take them for as many chips as possible ?
Yes, the point is to get all the chips, but slow rolling doesn't help you get more chips. A slow roll is when you act like you have a decision to make after your opponent has already gone all-in or at least bet enough chips to put you all-in. Meaning there is nothing more for you to win, but yet you act like you have a big decision to make, which in turn makes your opponent feel like they may have you beat. It's perfectly OK to act like you have a tough decision to make in hopes of getting your opponent to bet more or call a raise, but once you have reached max value the fake posturing should stop.
It's not a strategic tactic. It's considered taunting. It's like an NBA team being up 30 points but deciding to shoot a three pointer with 1 second left in the game.

I'm no poker expert, and with that said I hear what you're saying. And to a large part, I agree. But here's my understanding of the difference between bluffing and slow rolling. Bluffing is when you don't have good cards, but you pretend like you have good cards in an attempt to get your opponent(s) to fold. Now, bluffing is of course lying and deception. But it comes at a risk. If they call your bluff, you lose. But slow rolling (at least as it was shown in some of these clips) is where you know you have the best hand, and your opponent has already bet, and you pretend like you don't know whether to call or not. Basically, when you turn your cards over, everyone knows that you knew you had the best hand, and chose to drag out the drama unnecessarily, even though the performance can't change anyone's previous bet. So a bluff is a risky shot at winning a pot you didn't deserve based on your hole cards, and a slow play (again, the type of slow play in the video) is often a performative thing that doesn't actually change anything about the end result. (For clarity, not all slow plays work like I described here. Some slow plays are perfectly fine and not problematic in terms of ethics or etiquette. When you think you have the best preflop hand, you need to be careful about betting big because you could scare people off. So you can slow play preflop to keep the fish on the hook and I don't think anyone would fault you for that.)
Thanks for the reply, but still isn't the valid idea of poker is to win as much as you can from your opponents if you know you have the best hand going to use it to get more money, surely your opponents believe they have the best hands also thats why they bet, very confusing
That was a great explanation. Seems like you've got a solid grasp on the difference between bluffing and slow rolling. Indeed, the primary goal in poker is to win chips, but how players achieve this can vary widely and involves not just strategy but also understanding poker etiquette.
