Power...Are you joking I am confused here you had mk8 Golf r that was a stage 1 E85...and you are compare it to a stock RS3...please sir tune and E85 the RS3...and make this make sense
This car has 85 more horsepower than a stock golf r. Since mine was tuned, I felt it would be proper to compare the performance since they’re probably making similar power.
@@JVette01the golf r on E85 was definitely making more power plus its a lighter car
Honestly this is a big upgrade from golf r 5 cylinder make way more power bolt ons and tune is what you should do
Basically at the end of the day the money you lost on the gulf are and the money you're losing on the R3 is basically called a stupid tax and everybody pays it at some point in their life hopefully this is the only big mistake you make
Lolll
you'll need to tune the RS3 to unlock its full potential, same way you did for the golf r.
Exactly. This whole take is bad and not worth buying if you’re not tuning it. At least need to do springs, intake and mid pipes and change those non black optics wheels. Looks take stock with no black optics or cf package doesn’t count either.
You can't tune an 8Y yet unless you buy a different ECU. @@cmsniper81
@@cmsniper81exactly I was thinking tf the whole time. This car sounds insane with the new ecu unlock…this dude is smoking meth
You’re still young my guy, you’ll bounce back from this. I’d probably hold onto the car for a little bit so the initial sting of depreciation settles and when you’re not so much under water on it, then trade it in and maybe get back into a Golf R or replace it with something with a little utility. I currently own an M2 and a Tesla MYP. M2 is the fun car, Tesla is the commuter, grocery hauler with a nice 0-60. Awesome combo with both cars imo.
I'll look into trading in on a mk8.5 golf r or gti. Or I might just keep it if it doesn't make sense financially.
I agree I love my Tesla as well even I love my fun cars more.
I know this is off topic but did you have any issues with your 034 tune on the golf r? Considering getting a tune in the future and seeing if you would recommend it. Thanks!
No issues. I had an emissions thing come up but I don’t think it had anything to do with the tune and was fixed under warranty
On my second RS3. Not meant to be kept stock which is well known. Can’t complain when you can run 10s as soon as unitronic is ready.
We’ll see
The journey of your Golf GTI to the R is why I subbed to your channel. Sad to see her go 😢.
Also shame you guys in the US don’t get the hatch back version of the RS3.
Me too. The golf r was perfect
It okay, we may get back into one if I like the Mk8.5 ;)
@@JVette01 Here's hoping! :)
Wow I had no idea that we're the same exact height lol no wonder we both love Golf's cause it's one of the few cars we can fit in comfortably. I think your times will get better once it's broken in, great video brother I look forward to seeing how this car performs tuned.
golf mk8.5 r reveal on june 26… 👀
I might just have to buy it. We’ll see if the RS3 grows on me
That’s the one I’m waiting for 🙏🏻🫡
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Wish you to get something better ..
How do you like the performance vs. Your M2? I know these 2 are often cross shopped.
I will be making several videos on that. In short, I like my M2 way more.
I traded my 2016 STI in for a 2022 RS3, I personally love it. But did you say you paid 20k over MSRP for it?? I got mine at MSRP exactly how I specd it online. But I agree the power delivery at low RPM feels delayed/laggy but overall the only other car I was considering was a 2018 F80 M3 but I really wanted to stick with an AWD platform.
I'd pick the rs3 over the old M3 because the technology alone and the S55 is meh. However, a new M3 would destroy this car in every way possible. I did not pay 20k over lol, msrp, but still was super expensive.
STI has the worst turbo lag of any modern turbocharged car, so the RS3 isn't nearly as bad as that Subaru lol!
@speeddemon311 This is true. The stock map on the STI is terrible. Most get it re-mapped, getting greater linear power, and factory turbo spool is much quicker and smoother after.
@ttis3701 I had an STI for 8 years, and now I'm driving a 24 RS3, and it was a monstrous upgrade in every way lol
@speeddemon311 it truly is agreed, it's literally the adult version of the STI lol
The Topher said something very similar about the way the power felt on this car. He said the S3 felt way better on every day driving scenarios and the only time the RS3 felt better was when he pushed it to its limits. I would honestly keep this until the 8.5 Golf R comes out and get that.
That’s what I may end up doing
RS3 feels great almost all the time honestly because as an owner I know how to drive the car properly by having transmission in S and just being in dynamic or RS performance mode so the car pulls hard instantly lol! RS3 is by far the most fun I've ever had behind the wheel of a car at almost 50!😄
Keep in mind, driving in S all the time is kinda impractical because the revs will always be high and bad mpg. In my golf r, id quickly switch to S then back to D if I wanted to get up and go
@JVette01 Drive in S a lot and push her hard in general and usually get between 24 to 25 combined mpg!👍
In all honesty I don't even think the mk8.5 R will be worth the upgrade.
Very interested video,everything what you talking I agree,because I have 7.5 golf r with Akrapovic exhaust,after RS3 2020,and 2022 RS3 8y sold 6 months a go,and now I got Golf R 20Years in white colour and thes Akrapovic exhaust makes sound amazing.
I have a 2018 RS3 and respect what you are saying for sure. I am 5'9" so can't relate to alot of your problems with feeling cramped. I am not sure anything you do this car will make it more comfortable for you 😞
e85 golf R might have spoiled you 😀. Stage 1 E85 Uni on RS3 will put you at 592hp btw.
I think once your break in period is over and you can get on it more (in cold weather preferably) you will enjoy it more. Modify the midpipes first thing, I think the 8Y seems to be much quieter than the 8V generation, and its not letting that 5 cylinder shine.
and unfortunately I think that's really what it comes down to with the RS3, you paid a premium for that 5 cylinder engine. For me the noises and feeling from the engine really added excitement to my drive over my previous GTI.
Almost any German car can get to similar power levels as stock RS3 with a tune, but the way the 5 cyl puts that power down with attitude is probably the reason I can't sell it.
Hope you are able to find some joy in the ownership! But if its not the right car for you I am sure others will be happy to pick that car up close to what you paid for, and you can get the right car for you.
Extremely well said, and 100% agree 👍
I just got my RS3 3 weeks ago. I LOVE everything about it
Congrats!
Thanks for the candid video. I'll be honest, I found the decision to upgrade from the Golf R to the RS3 debatable because you already own an M2. Everybody is different, but I do need at least one car with hatchback practicality.
Also, in general, going from a premium to an ultra-premium product is almost never worth the money. You would have probably felt the same disappointment if you had upgraded from an M240i to your M2.
Nonetheless, I look forward what you make of the RS3 - I look forward to comparisons to your M2.
Thanks for taking the time to comment. However, the M240 to M2 is a big gap in performance for not that much more money. The Golf R vs RS3 is a 20k gap. M240i to M2 is like a 10k gap and even less if you option up the M240. It would make sense to just get an M2 from the get go.
@@JVette01 I would agree that the price gap between the M240 and M2 is more reasonable than the jump between the Golf R and the RS3; the RS3 is also overpriced vis-a-vis the M2.
I disagree on the M240i though. It's plenty of performance. The AWD version is actually quicker 0-60 than the current M2, and within street legal limits in general. Going from premium to top-of-the-line can be fun, but it's a privilege car makers charge a pretty penny for. IMHO it's mostly overkill. To be honest in my experience, even a GTI delivers 80%-90% of the fun of an M2, as different as the cars may be. Much of the difference is just brand prestige and make-believe. I'm not saying the higher-end cars aren't objectively better in some ways because of course they are. They are just rarely worth the upcharge.
I understand your perspective. However, having owned a MK8 GTI and now my M2, they are nowhere even close to be compared to one another. It's not 80-90% of the M2 at all. Even the M240 vs M2 is on a whole another level when it comes to handling, speed, looks, the trans tuning, and the engine.
No ECU tune for the 8y yet right? Same deal, been tough to crack. Still waiting anxiously for the tcu tune for my mk8.
No tune, correct. I'm not concerned at the moment because I like to enjoy my cars stock for a while before tuning.. and Idk how long I'll have this RS3
Unitronic is beta testing one I believe
I almost traded my Golf R 20AE in on an RS3 as well, but ran into the same thing with the size of the car. I don't think most people realize how comically small the RS3 is, even more so on the inside. And that's compared to an already pseudo-small car in the Golf R.
If I do ever trade of Golf R in, it will likely be for an M2 or CT4V BW or Giulia Quad.
M2 all the way ;)
Sorry to hear brutha. If you can find one, have you thought about the Audi S3 sportback?
Nah not interested in that. I’d just get another golf r
The prefacelift S3 sportback is inferior to the golf r
The only reasons you buy this car, whether its the 8y or 8v, is the engine and drivetrain. The potential of the 5 cylinder plus the awd system is incredible. Plus, the sound of the 5 cylinder is one of the greatest engine sounds. If you arent tuning and doing bolt ons youre wasting your time. IROZ is already doing crazy things with this model
I also have a pure white 8R. It has the stage 1 racingline ecu and tcu so it goes hard. I had been looking for an RS3 8Y for a while and decided to sell up for an RS3 around the time you did. The deposit went down a couple of days ago but watching this has made me also consider if I’m doing the right thing. Its about a 20k dollar difference but my R was a 21 plate and the RS is only 6 months old. The wide arches and the 5 pot noise is what’s been pulling me in. I have until tomorrow to go through with it or back out 😅
Just drive it, see if you fit in it, don't rush, and see if it's the right car for you.
I’m 6’6” so i understand where you’re coming from. I’m getting some pole position FIA N.G’s that way I can sit lower in the car.
I feel you. I had a 2019 golf R, tuned and slightly modified and all. Traded it in for an almost brand new 2021 Stinger GT thinking I wanted a bigger and more comfortable car but I regretted it so badly. I even still love my golf R to this date after I sold the Stinger for the M240. The Golf Rs are special cars. I don't know exactly what's about them but I just like them very much. Although I'm driving a more expensive car, I am still jealous of those who have a mk8 😂😂
The m240 is great so you made a good choice there! However, I do miss my egg as well
When I saw the first video with the rs3 I was like nooo the R was literally perfect. The complaints definitely make sense since you’re taller. Did you try sitting in one before trading in??
I did, and thought I could make it work. However, I have to sit a certain way to not brush my head against the headliner which is kinda annoying.
Definitely a small car for a dude that’s six six lol
I like smaller cars tho haha. My M2 has tons of space
@JVette01 m2 is no longer a small car, but I get your point!😃
@@speeddemon311 It definitely is dimensions wise. 180" long. Only 2" longer than the RS3 and a whole 8-9" longer than a mustang/camaro. Yes, its heavier now since its based of the m3/m4 chassis but it's still a small car.
@JVette01, it's not large, just really heavy for a two door!!😄
Can you tune those yet? When i looked into those awhile back there was no tuning yet.
No
Yes, with Syvecs
You can’t compare an e85 tune to a stock rs3. Of course the e85 tune will be faster, always is. But I’ll probably end up ordering a Golf R too once it’s revealed. Did you like the Golf R that much more then the GTI?
Golf R stock is 315 hp. RS3 stock is 400. This is why I compared my E85 Golf to the RS3. Stock for stock the RS3 is faster, and modded the RS3 is also faster. I was comparing MY golf to MY rs3.
And yes, The R is much better than the GTI. See my videos. I made several comparing them when I made the upgrade.
I thought the widows were tinted?
Anyway, you should
go with black badges. 👍
Just remember, 5 cylinders. 😉
I like the chrome. And yes, they were, but in my previous video, I mentioned this one would be coming out that was shot prior.
Okay, I must of missed that. 😩
Is that speedo in Km/hr?, from that run looks like it took 9 secs for that century sprint.
It’s mph lol
Good for telling it like it is. Would you ever consider the new 2025 Golf R to replace this?
Possibly depending on how it is
@JVette01 at 10:29 you didn't launch correctly; you need to see the rev limiter flash red before launching. When the rev counter flashes red it's indicating that proper boost pressure has built up. You soft launched it without building a lot of boost pressure. Could you please do it again properly and report back to us? Very curious to see if that makes a big difference in the Dragy times.
Also, gotta make sure you have it in RS Performance/Dynamic mode with traction control and ESC fully off I believe. That should help.
I did have it in the proper modes.
can this car beat a M340i in a drag and roll? Stock for stock?
I will find out soon. Working on that this weekend
Yes my stock golf R 2024 just pulls on a stock 340i, so s stock rs3 8y will leave 340i behind
@@17Z4K17 damn. how about against a stock M3 CS?
@@backtoshallabal666265k vs 119k sounds a little stupid to compare. Rs3 faster then regular m3. Slower then cs and comp
With 5700 da and 91 fuel your not going to get great times that is a given. My 24 stock ran 11.78 @ 116.97 in -360 DA and 52 degree out on 93 fuel. These little 5 cylinders like ethanol even on stock tune, you could easily run E20-E30 mix to help out with performance. Though not much you can do except for some bolt-on's or jb4 at this point for more performance. Uni is said to be releasing a tune but don't hold your breath. That is if you like the car, I can hear/feel you on your thoughts, I feel the same after getting my g87.
Yeah, the conditions were bad. I'll be uploading a full dragy video once the conditions get better.
What was the 0-60 time? Love your videos by the way.
I think on these heat soaked runs it was around 4.0
@@JVette01 I almost bought an rs3 but I kept my m240i xDrive. For me the interior and the exhaust sound was a no-no. Plus, the rs3 it is pretty normal and it is hard to tell the difference between models.
@santiagogodoy6741 Interesting take on the RS3, but as an owner with 3k miles on my 24 RS3, I can honestly say i like it 10 x better than the other car in my garage which is a M240ix drive! The level of fun and the sounds from the 5 cylinder and DCT is incredibly entertaining compared to the B58 with the ZF8!
I also have a 20th AE DSG R, why I subscribed and enjoy your videos. At your height it makes total sense, all this talk of tuning, modding is moot when you can't do anything to add height or visibility to a car. The 20th AEs will remain special in that they will also always be sought after by those that track and need room for a helmet, etc.
100%
Great video!
Man, I’d just bought my black 2024 Golf R and found your channel the next day. Then saw you had traded your R in. I was kinda bummed out, but still watching the channel 🙏
Congrats! You’ll love it. I’ll make plenty of videos comparing them so you’ll have relevant content 👍
@@JVette01 appreciate that brother! Already have 5.5k miles. Just installed a new hood strut, blacked out my side markers and added a spare tire. Can’t wait to tune this thing! I had a 2004 R32 in Black as well. That v6 is still the best exhaust I’ve ever heard! Always regretted seeking it, so at 59 I figure I’d bring back some youth 🤣
Interesting!, as a Mk8R owner for 3 years now. I had not find nothing better all around car still. The only is the RS3 hatchback that is close. But fun that you notice all the small bad things with the RS3... Thanks from Sweden :)
Yep, I notice the little idiosyncrasies since I was so used to driving my golf r everyday.
Its all good bro! I was upside down with my m340i but couldn’t walk away from the m2 deal I had set up.. you live once! Enjoy it
Why not just daily the g87? That’s what I do. I would probably get a c6 z06 if I were to get a second car but idk how much I would rlly drive it
I like having 2 cars. One daily and one fun
@@JVette01 even better, a fun daily and a fun not daily
Yassss. Same same
Well the golf 8.5 is just around the corner you can always get one of those plus there's suppose to be a clubsport version rumored.
I would get the R because AWD
Clubsport version probably not coming to NA 😢
Noooo! I wanted one to go along with my G87 M2. I'm in the northeast. I would drive it from November to March. I'm only 5'11" So I'm only concerned with performance. Which is better the R or the RS3? I never really considered the R. I will check it out.
Stock vs stock rs3 is better.
@@JVette01 Still going to test drive one. I'm sure the R was cheaper to mod.
Oh snap you know I had to be here for this one!
When you explained how an NA engine works around 4k rpm, does that apply to every NA engine or this is just VTEC kicking in? lol
Lots of N/A engines that aren't big displacement need RPMs to get going and feel quick. For example: 5.0 Mustang, Honda Civic, V6 camry, etc.
The exception would be large displacement engines like the 7.3 V8 in the Ford super duty or the 6.4 in the Dodge vehicles, or the 6.2 V8 in chevys
Being tall definitely makes a difference in room/comfort. I know first hand, although I’m not quite your height. And unfortunately I know about buyers remorse. At least the RS3 will hold its value and it won’t be as bad as it could be with a car that loses value quicker. Who knows, maybe you will fall in love with it once it breaks in.
My thoughts exactly.
You dont have a sportback version in the US? That sucks mate
I literally subbed to you for your Golf R content bc I have the exact 20th anniversary. It broke my heart when you released your trade in video 😢
It broke mine too 😭 it’s okay, we may be back in a golf once the new mk8.5 comes out
I did the same and also have a 20th and sad to see the R go as there’s very little ongoing mk8 Golf R content on UA-cam
I did the same! My R was already on order when I subbed. Mine isn’t a 20th Anniversary but it is Pure White. 😎
Thnaks for the vid, bro! Been watching for a while. Have a '22 Golf R and was recently considering trading for the RS3 too, until i saw the $30k extra I'd have to shell out. Sorry you're not loving it. I was really surprised you traded for it since you have an M2. But like the other comments, maybe you can keep the miles super low on it and trade it for the Mk8.5. just hope youre not losing too much money out of all this... 😢
Yeah we'll see haha. Thankfully resale value is pretty good. I might end up liking it.
I testdrove a 8v rs3 last year and it was very underwhelming and wasnt as fun as i thought it would be. I think the new bmw m cars are much better.
For sure. However, the only M car in this price range is an M2, which I have and like alot more.
I just watched your other videos and was bracing myself for why you didn’t like it. Obviously considering the money you had to pay plus being so tall, I completely get it and don’t blame you. Also, the turbo lag is an acquired taste and makes gaining speed an issue if you aren’t in the right gear or rev range. Everything else seemed pretty subjective so beauty is in the eye of the beholder at that point and I hope you enjoy your time with it for now in spite of those issues.
I’ve had my ‘24 RS3 for 3k miles and I’m completely in love. I only hate the fact that it doesn’t have remote start, no 360 camera, and it takes considerably longer for the revs to drop upon starting compared to my ‘21 Mazda 3 turbo. Used to sit in the Mazda ~30 seconds after starting, now closer to ~60 seconds in the RS3. Only other cars I considered were a M340i and KIA EV6 GT. Given on my preferences and price. Can’t say I would ever consider trading it in at this point though. Already looking forward to modding mine bit by bit as time goes on.
Thanks for your input!
2024 golf R owner here, the hot hatch is the better daily driver over an rs3 I plan on keeping my R long term if I had plans to replace it will be going to a rs6 wagon or a Porsche turbo/gt3 in my future 10+ years from now until then the golf R should do the job
That sucks man. I’ve definitely been there too. I regret getting rid of my clean low miles fiesta st a couple years ago. That car was something special
Yeah it sucks when you get rid of a perfectly good car. Even while buying it, I was like.. what am I doing lol
I’m looking forward to see you race the stock supra and stock Mustang gt..congratulations.!!!😊
They will probably both beat it.. :/
I probably wouldn't have upgraded from a Golf R to an RS3 because the space is smaller and a tuned Golf R is kind of close to a stock RS3 in power. It sounds like the dealer gave you less of a deal because the Golf was tuned which is shitty. My issue with both is dealer markups.
So I know your a German car guy but I have been watching you for a while. I've owned a EA888 car since new (b9.5 audi a4 and still have it at 80k miles) and it was great but it did feel a little dull. I now have a 2024 Integra Type S and really do like the car. There is surprisingly a lot of character and emotion driving the car. It is not the fastest, especially from a dig but if you want a daily driver with some character it is great. I would love to see your thoughts on driving a new civic type r or a new integra type s.
I’ve actually already driven a civic type r and civic si. In a few days from now, I’ll be posting a review of a 2023 Si and comparing it to a GTI
@@JVette01 sweet man! One of my buddies had a mk7.5 R 6mt tuned and really enjoyed my stock ITS driving characteristics. He was just 93 tuned by IE but even switching drivers the stock ITS was faster for some reason. Gen 4 EA888 seems like a different game though!
Yeah Gen 4 GTI/R is so much faster than the old one with the IS20/IS38
Keep up the content 💪🏻
Will do!
I do like the tach being on the HUD display, but otherwise I'm thrilled with my Golf R
Damn, the biggest killer for me is the locked ecu/tcu :( such a shame. That being said if you bring it to Cali let me race it lol awesome car and i wanted one but now that i get your take on it i might just go for a golf r next or S3
Golf R for sure. S3 not worth it at all unless you just want the Audi name. RS3 would be a good option for you though if you like modding since it gets fast with mods (when it’s finally unlocked)
Did you drive the Audi RS3 8Y before placing your order?
No. Nothing to drive at that time
@@JVette01 Missed out on a 2 month wait because I couldn’t drive or view a RS3 8Y.After 2 months finally got to drive a car, placed deposit and waited another 6 months for next shipment.Well worth the wait.Looked at Golf R Mk8 but capacitance controls on steering wheel, lack of manual buttons on dashboard for essentials and never been a fan of inline 4 cylinders even though I can appreciate the performance of the EA888 engine.
Hope the RS3 grows on you! How do you like the RS3 compared to a M240i xdrive?
I’ll make a video possibly in the future going over that
@@JVette01 Sounds good, thanks!
I own both cars, and the RS3 is on another level of performance and looks and sounds much better! RS3 is so much fun to drive!!
@@JVette01 Please do that. I think a lot of people are looking into that comparison. RS3 vs M240i xdrive
Watched the video and read through some of these comments. I traded my diesel X5 for a Ford Raptor. The regret never left and less than two years later it was gone. Terrible driving dynamics and just a pain to live with. Cool factor waned so fast it gave me whiplash. Live an learn. Sorry dude. I like that post on stupid tax. We have all been there at some point. You can always make more money but you can’t make more time. Use time wisely
Golf R really is a great all around package. I love my mk7.5 even though I constantly look at getting something else with technically more performance (RS3, M3, M2, C63 etc…). Luckily I remind myself for the price paid, cost to run the car, practicality and performance (mine is also tuned) there is very little out there that makes sense to trade into.
Hopefully you can modify the RS3 a little bit and enjoy it more throughout your ownership! New 8.5 is just around the corner ;)
A lot of valid complaints. Biggest reason to upgrade is the 5cyl sound, tuning overhead, port injection keeping the valves clean. The trans can hold more torque for longer, IROZ goodies, physical controls for climate and stuff. You seem to like low range torque which comes along with smaller turbo cars like the GTI. Common complaint amoung Golf R owners getting bigger turbos is the car feeling slower despite having more top end power. I think you also have a point about the RS3 being in break in period as well. Hopefully a tune is enough to change your mind but you sound really unhappy with it.
Also you're definitely not helping my case of wanting to trade my 7.5 R for a Mk8 R
7.5R to 8R is a big upgrade! Do it. And yes, we’ll see as time goes on if the car gets quicker and I like it more
Makes me appreciate my 23r more and it still feels quick to me;thanks for honest assessment.
Keep it!
@@JVette01 Lol,heard loud and clear.
the big mistake is the lost of hatch. Looking at the 8.5R, i really hate the large TV screen they stuck on there.
What drive mode were you in?
RS Performance
Sorry to hear that. When I drove my stage 2 FBO Mk7R and a stock RS3 8V2 back to back, the RS3 felt sluggish especially in the low to mid range. This made it less enjoyable as a daily. I guess the 8Y still suffers from the same issue. Mind you, tuning the RS3 will improve that, … and get you in the 500hp territory. If you don’t plan to go that route, the 8.5 is around the corner.
Definitely considering both options
A lot of 8Y RS3 owners in the UK aren't happy with them either . A lot of owners are selling up and saying they prefer the 8v Rs3 .
I came here for the Golf R20 content as I am interested in buying one but I am waiting to see the facelift first on the 26th June .
I may get the new golf. I’ll see how I like it
I don’t think these 2 cars compare, also what I’ve found with the audi models is the exhausts get louder as miles go, the car also gets faster
I live on 1,7m elevation in South Africa 🇿🇦 and I have an 8v2 S3 that would lose to my mates golf 7R, I also did feel that the 7R was a lot less claustrophobic cause of the large windows but I didn’t like that
Anyways after 10000km and we raced I had 3 passengers, he outlauched me and I caught and passed him like the car had a tune
Regardless, the car also now had pops when revving on P
I think if you had the option of getting the hatchback that we don’t get in certain countries, you would’ve liked that one better instead because it’s the more competitive hatchback golf r
I went to check out a new S3 few days ago, and I felt the overall interior space was cramped (I’m 5’8”). The auto transmission and AWD did make the car feel quick from a launch, but it didn’t feel much quicker on a roll than my 2022 GTI manual with EQT stage 1 93. RS3 would likely show more significant performance difference. Very interesting since I’ve heard only positive feedback from other videos and Fb posts of those who have moved from MK8 R to the RS3
If you're 5'8 you should be fine. However there isn't alot of wiggle room (width wise) for your legs and stuff. I'd just recommend stepping up to a Golf R if you're craving more performance and want to be able to put the power down. S3 doesn't really make sense. Almost the same price as an rs3 and way more expensive than a golf r for no performance gain.
I didn’t have issue with head room, but the leg room was noticeably narrower compared to the GTI. I got thick thighs and my right knee was rubbing against the transmission tunnel, not fun.
This.
IMO u have to tune it if ur to get a RS3. It’s annoying but Audi / VW love to under power their cars probably on purpose for reliability. Do some basic mods & you’ll know why this car is the better one
Yeah I know modded it's fast... however, I'm using it as a daily and don't want to sacrifice reliability.
@JVette01 Just stage 1.E85 and your opinion will completely change guaranteed, my friend!
very refreshing video - respect for being honest! overall i think the RS3 is more special than the Golf R (probably the last 5 cylinder car that will be made), but your gripes mostly stem from not being able to test drive one thoroughly before buying it. id also suggest holding off a bit and tuning the car too so you get the full experience. good news is you shouldn't lose your shirt on this should you chose to trade it in.
True. These seem to hold value very well. Perfect for me since I wanna get out of it within a year
so many comments I wonder if they saw the vid before this, hahah. yeah I guess you'll see if it grows on you.. we're here for it all. who knows, next video you might come back in an Emira hahah
Hahaha no I’m not that crazy. Got keep it for at least a few months right? 🤣
I ended up trading my Golf R for a 2024 Nissan Titan bronze edition and I have no regrets. I know it's a totally different vehicle. I got tired of hitting potholes and going over rough roads in my Golf, I felt like I was breaking my golf every time I hit a bump or pothole (I try to avoid them like the plague, but there are so many). Don't get me wrong, I loved the Golf R, but that Titan is fantastic!
This man needs an exhaust and a tune to get rid of some of that buyers remorse! I hope they unlock the ECU/TCU soon.
I wish we had the sportback(hatchback/wagon?) version in the US
That would be a cool option
Back in 2018 I was seriously thinking about getting the RS3. Was super jealous and fortunate that my neighbor got one of the first ones in Las Vegas. Test drove it and was not impressed as I should've been. Hence the reason I got my 2018 S5 Sportback. More luxurious and decent size for a daily. I do like the hardcore looks of the RS but shocked that the engine wasn't what i was expecting as well.
Those S5's are nice dailies! I unfortunately don't fit due to headroom.. lol
Audi 3 series cars have always felt small and cramped. It’s a reminder to test drive cars thoroughly. I made the same mistake of buying a car without a full proper test drive. Also, it’s funny people saying tune a brand new luxury car. Id be worried about nading the warranty.
I have a Golf R and my friend has an RS3, in addition to the things you mentioned, some of the differences where I thought the Golf R was better were:
Golf has a nicer steering wheel (flat bottom, heated, dimpled only at the grips so there is some visual/textural contrast).
Golf has more settings for things and more customizations of the instrument cluster.
The ambient lighting is nicer in the Golf (all of the light strips are tucked away instead of the very visible white strips in the RS3).
Golf has ventilated seats but the RS3 seats are much nicer.
Golf has room for a spare tire.
I did like the seating position in the RS3 better, I felt a bit more connected to the car but I'm short so that may have something to do with it, the Golf seats don't really hold me in very well and it feels more like a small SUV.
Good observation. I agree with most of what you said as well
Bro’s 6’6 complaining its a bit cramped
Yeah ik this guy is dumb
@@JVette01 😂
You have to be careful. Social media will drive people to reach beyond their means to keep up with the joneses , it’s always about who has the newest shiniest object. It’s a forever chase!
The car is beautiful and I’m sure you will grow to love it! Take care bro 💯
I understand what you mean, but I never bought a car to "keep up with the Joneses" I buy what I like for me only.
@@JVette01 💯, the new rs3 is my dream car so I understand!
That 111 trap speed surprised me that thing fall off hard top end I bet the 60-130 is in the high 12 -13s
what was the quarter mile of ur golf R with all the tunes on ?
I compared it to the golf r with the same bad conditions, but I've gotten in the 11's at over 114mph on the e85 tune. This is with 75 degrees or so, 2500 ft elevation and 4k ft DA. With great conditions, it will definitely do better, but so will the RS3. It seems they're pretty even right now.
It feels like a mistake right now and might always feel like a mistake, but you’ve learned a lot about (or at least reaffirmed) what you truly value in a car. An expensive lesson but it could be way worse. Ultimately, the RS3 is still really cool
Great video and that’s why I chose to wait for the 2025 rs3.
From a lot you're saying I think the main problem is the car doesn't really fit you due to your height. You need to feel comfortable as you will be driving the car a lot. All the other stuff I feel you would get used to over time. It is a great looking car.
Got the chance to sit in a 8Y A3, and I do have to agree it feels quite crammed in there. Love the 5 cyl sound, and on the bright side it's a unique and nowadays rare powertrain. Don't know how the future will look like, but if you do end up keeping it long term there's the possibility it will return your investment with the collectors market.
Collector for sure!
I went from an m4 to an rs3 and I didn't have any problems I'm 5' 11" you cant compare a stock car to a tuned one that makes no sense.
Yes it does when stock vs stock is a 86hp difference
I think this are more personal opinions on a top tier car. I got an S3 8Y over a golf R for many reason including faster shifts and better sound, better interior etc etc.
But the S3 doesn’t shift faster.. it’s actually a decent bit slower than a MK8R.. and yes, there are lots of personal opinions, hence the title “I”
I get what you mean, difference to 60 is roughly 0.3 secs at most tbh. I did drove both and perhaps factory tunning from Audi enhances the S3 sound and shifts ? 🤷♂️ Imo.
for what u do - golf r is the better car for your daily - rs3 8y is a tuners dream - like the m2 comp - - I love the rs3 - but i tune my cars more heavy lol - moslty full stage 2 builds or even stage 3 . - but for a daily - the Golf r is one of the best bang the $ and performance after few mods. - anywho yes mk8 golf r dsg on e85 is faster than stock 8y rs3 even a full 93 ecu /tcu tune golf r will edge out the rs3 - lastly - on the rs3 use dynamic for best results - also when u do runs - u have to do three or so - car needs time to adapt . also do the 1000mile break in - and stock 1/4mile rs3 8y - good conditions on 93 runs 11.7's to 11,9's
I tried letting him know in other video that dynamic mode is key and transmission must be in S for sport mode that shows in the display! Absolutely a must or the car won't perform correctly! I have a 24 RS3 and there was a small learning curve on how to drive it!!
I will look into doing Dynamic next time. I was using RS Performance which I thought was the "all out" mode.
I’m curious to know what age group your audience is… most of the things you’re complaining about are obviously preference but you’re also complaining about things that make me scratch my head. At the end of the day, I’ve driven the Golf R and I would never trade in my 8Y RS3 for it. Most of us wouldn’t neither.
I’m happy with my RS3 that I’ve only invested $1500 on and now have 480whp on JB4 E30. Stop complaining and go back to a Golf R, they’re available everywhere and cut your monthly expenses buddy.
I may just do that. We’ll see
I love Golfs, got a 7.5 GTI. But damn the RS3 looks nice. Only thing I'd change is that strange looking exhaust.
Mk8 is a big improvement performance and tech wise.
The money you pay over the R is for the engine… which can make double what the R engine will ever make because underneath they are mostly the same car…
Plus, listen to it. 🎶🎼🎵🥁🎹
Either tune it or sell it don’t pmo
I have had my 2022 Golf R for almost 30 months. I wanted a manual and I have never regretted that decision; yes, I know the counter argument! I think I love it more today than when I bought it and I just don't see anything else out there that I would trade my R for.
That's exactly how I felt. Buying this car was out of the blue and tbh way too rushed.
I really appreciate the honesty. The RS3 was originally one of my hitlist dream cars. But I went from a ‘21 GLI to a ‘22 GTI. In between that I shopped the ‘22 A3 Quattro. And yo. Even at 6’0” 275lbs the decrease in space going from a GLI to A3 was massive. So when an early ‘22 GTI arrived that I could sit in, I was very fearful. Yet I only lost a little bit of storage up front and slight leg room in the rear sets. It was like night and day from what I would have lost going to the A3. It made zero sense. Even after getting my GTI I simply can’t justify being happy going to an A3 series. I’d either just get an R or A5 series. Gut the GTI is SOOOO good. Especially after a tune. The ONLY drawback it could ever have is not being awd. But everything you said is what I felt going through my A3/GTI decision. Zero regrets.
You made a good choice. However, I will say the jump from GTI to R is amazing. Everything thats great about a GTI but with more luxury, power, better looks, and AWD!
@@JVette01I agree on all points except the better looks. I specifically liked the MK8 GTI grill w/ foglights over the R grill and really like the GTI cloth pattern over the leather. But again, 100% agree on everything else.
I enjoyed that on my GTI too.. but when you realize the grill is the way it is to make room for oil coolers, etc, it all makes sense haha. The cloth is great, but the leather smell, feel, and ventilation makes you feel like you're in a much more expensive luxurious car.
You must live near me based on spots you film. Take it to iroz once the ecu gets cracked and it will be a different animal as you know.
Everyone is saying that but it should be good out of the box. Not a car that HAS to be tuned to be good
@JVette01 golf r tuned, especially on E spoiled you. It's only really a fair comparison powerwise if you do similar on this one. You are crazy for even buying when you are so tall lol
I believe it’s fair. Golf has 86 less hp stock vs stock. I feel like a simple e85 tune on the golf would be fair to compare to this which is supposed to have 401
Yeah at 6’6” the Audi 3s are too small for sure
At 6’2” I looked at it years ago and said “ too small on the inside “
I like certain small cars too ( Supra ) but some don’t have the room on the inside
