Written by 23 year old Brian Wilson and cousin Mike Love, it's deceptively simple, coming as it did in the early '60s. But musically, it was notable for its intricate harmonies and use of jazz chords (the opening 7th chord was rarely heard in a pop song). Thanks Daniel and Harri.
DV-I thoroughly enjoyed this submission and performance. The Beach Boys 'trademark songwriting and harmonizing certainly made this a very enjoyable song. Excellent submission choice as well. Harri, as always, I enjoyed your knowledgeable commentary.
Imagine if they had slowed it down to be a ballad. This is hyper speed teenage music market stuff to match the speed of a teenage heart and brain in 1964. But the performance and the song is great of course.
Such a brilliant production by Brian. The whole TODAY! album is magical. The growth he showed from the previous studio album (ALL SUMMER LONG) is astounding, as good as that previous album was.
Hi Harri. You really should listen to "God only knows" with Beach Boys. In my opinion, it's one of Brian Wilson's greatest song, and one of my all time favourite songs. Greatings from Denmark.
OMG I love the beach boys...lived in CA for 3 years in the 80s, but Monterey. Lol. One of very few artists my dad loved. Thank you so much for this one!! ❤❤ Cheers Harri...awesome as always
Brian states in his autobiography that his father Murray constantly berated him about "being a man." That's the emotional wellspring for the song's lyrics.

I always loved the way the background voices start counting upwards from 14 beginning in the second verse. Clever, plus the great harmonies as usual.
I love this song man... geez

Thanks DaveBZen my friend. 🌲🧑🎄😊
Love it❤
Over 60 years later and The Beach Boys music can still bring me back to when I was a young man. To me, it’s still not summer without The Beach Boys!
the message is very simple yet very profound.
It's the first rock song to seriously contemplate a young man's future.
Great sound and harmony!
❤❤❤❤❤
Loved this whole album as a kid! Great choice & thanks for your reaction!

Nice one, I haven’t heard this song in ages. Thanks bro and Harri of course.

“Please Let Me Wonder” from the same album is a great track also.

Will my kids be proud,
OR THINK their old man's really
A square?
Sad song considering all of the mental issues Brian had when he became a man.
