Wow. I remember the engine note. My brother and I were fortunate to have an amazing father, who, in 1973, gifted us an XR-75 to share. Local neighborhood kids had yz-80's, trail-70's and some Suzuki POS. They were in awe of the XR. It screamed! Made an easy 60 mph, flew through the air, ditched cops, attracted chicks :) It was stolen by a neighborhood hoodlum, but everyone in our town knew the bike. when recovered, the beautiful charcoal and red paint scheme had been stripped so we did a custom repaint, think shaggin wagon style, that was the thing back then. I was 11, am 60 now. THAT was a childhood. No cell phones or video games.
Almost 60 years old and I was so envious of a buddy who had a Honda XR 75. Super bad ass bike. We were 12. A year later, my dad bought me a Kawasaki 100 cc two stroke street bike. We rode everywhere. Good times
I had a 75 XR 75 my buddy had a YZ 80 and my other buddy had an RM 80 used to go in the woods at the end of the block before they built houses and Ride all day. Long good times can’t do that anymore.
Grew up riding 3hp minibikes....centrifugal clutches! My friend got a new '73 XR75 that I learned manual clutch on....that experience changed my 2-wheeled life! In my late 50s I still ride my GSXR and some other vintage stuff including my all original '77 XR75! Thanks for sharing this awesomely rare XR75!!!
Me and my friends used to drool over these back in the day. It still sounds bad-ass.
Iconic bike right there!!!
Turned many boys into gear head men!!
Great job guys!!
Great video!!
Right on!
@@KaplanCycles just look at your boy . He is selling vintage bikes of unobtainium like a boss . The torch has been passed from father to son...

I had one of those in '75, did the whole PK Racing engine on it but used a Powroll stroker crank with a 99cc sleeve kit, had 119cc of some serious horsepower for such a small engine! Compression ratio was somewhere north of 12.5:1 with added stroke figured in. Their roller bearing camshaft solved oiling issues along with an oil cooler feeding the upper end from the pump in the cases. Used one of PK Racing's race pipes with larger head pipe and Mikuni 26mm carb with PK Racing's port work, was an absolute animal in higher RPM ranges and would keep up with a CR125 Elsinore in a drag race with a light kid on the XR who knew how to ride it. We clocked that bike at 68 mph with my 6'5" ass on it, now that was sketchy at best!
Cool video, thanks so much! Glad to see some of this old stuff still out there.
Holy shit, dude. That's amazing. My first bike was a XR100 nice bike put slow. My next one was a 2-stroke.
@@angrytater2456 that little bike cost me about $1200 in 1975 dollars to do up that engine, it would cook off well over 12,000 RPM at full song. I was 18 years old at the time and had worked all that spring & summer to earn the bucks to build that thing.
@@MM_in_Havasu I honestly didn't know that was possible. Impressive.
If you owned one of those growing up in a subdivision...you also owned the subdivision..
😎👍
My first bike was a 1975,bought used for $350, beat the hell out of it. Wish I had taken better care of half the stuff I used to have but when your 12 you don't think about them things. Sweet bike
Beautiful Honda . Sure brings back some memories of Two friends I grew up with who owned an identical pair of those . Both had installed Bassani exhausts and when we all rode together in our neighborhood riding area we could hear those 4 strokes coming ( most of us had 2 stroke powered bikes back then , Hodaka Ace 90 cc or Kawasaki Green Streaks or in my case a Yamaha JT-1 mini enduro & my neighbor on his Penton 125 with good old Sachs engine that broke a lot 😉. I’ll bet that Example you have will fetch a pretty penny for ya , and hopefully goes to a good home . Enjoy all your vids from Ken & you & rest of Gang . God Bless you guys & Happy 2023 .😎👍
It would be nice to keep this one in the museum since so many people rode these as kids for MX bikes. Very collectible and great bikes that are easy to work on.
Man when those came out they were the $hit! I was too old for one by a few yrs, already on MX bikes, but they were everywhere.
Even the xr 100
What a piece of dirtbiking history!
My first bike at 11 yrs old. Was a great beginner bike. Great memories great fun.
WOW! #Memories - sensory overload. My first bike. This one looks & sounds amazing !
I remember being pissed that I just got SL70 and Honda brought this out 6 months later ... what bothered me was the SL had a scooter motor and the XR had a 'proper' engine lol
Lol same thing with me. Got a sl70 for Christmas in 72 and a friend got the xr75 in the summer. I was ruined after I rode it. Lol I got a 76 xr75 15 yrs ago, I love it but looking for a 73, always wanted one.
Blast from the past. Incredibly original those side stickers were gone in a couple of months on mine had a 74. Just needs a Hooker pipe for incredible sound spent a summer cutting lawns to buy one.
Hi Rick how are you doing. I hope you had a good day. I’m Maria from Minnesota and I’m looking for a new friend okay 😊
That.bike.is.iconic.im.a.onwer.of.xr.75.1972.honda.great.video.guys.
That is the machine i learned on, 400 bucks out the door...geez. Had the original cr 125 elsinore also. The xr was my favorite bike i ever owned by far, no substitute for youth.
I got to ride one of these as teen in 1975.
Talk about riding until destruction. It took a lot to destroy it . I was riding Kawasaki KD 80 while there were some friends had xr75 . Awesome bike.
I had the Xl as a kid in 1976.
Have been on hundred of bikes since and still can't get enough riding in
Great vid
What a beauty!
Sweet.
My dads first bike!! Amazing
Come on Jr thats almost insulting . I did not have to see this today. I was just setting here in my home and i thought maybe ill take a quick peek to see what all degree of eye candy i might be missing over at the compound.then heeeers Jr pulling another rabbet out of his hat and his american emotional roller coaster show . Btw were did my last 50 years go when these bikes were at the local motocross track racing, and so was i
My first bike, 74 model bought brand new and no telling how many miles it had on it after my little brother out grew it. Wore out two sets of sprockets and eventually had to have the motor overhauled. Good memories, they don't build stuff as durable and dependable today as that XR 75.
I learned to ride a clutch on one of them and always had a big burn on the inside of my leg from the pipe great memories
I wish you could see my 1979 xr 185.
I love it.
I had a 1980 xr 200 they are so awesome
@@clawedroom2393 yup! The lucky few
Very nice. Those low serial numbers will bring in some bidders for sure.
Saw alot of those at the local Motocross Tracks I used to go to back in the 70's.They were the Bike to race in the mini class until The CR's,RM's,KX's and YZ 80's came along. Then they were just great trail bikes but Always fun to ride.
Hi mark how are you doing. I hope you had a good day. I’m Maria from Minnesota and I’m looking for a new friend okay 😊
Had the 74’
yup. this was my first bike as an 11 year old kid
That is awesome! I had a 1978. Sold it for next to nothing.
In 1973 tthat was the bike my 13yo self dreamed about some kids on the other side of the woods had them i had a krupp that I cobbled together. That is very cool rig!
Jr’ keep up the good work while your pop’s is staying warm in Fla’ the only state that’s fighting the hardest for our freedoms 🇺🇸💪🏼🦅
Was just going to ask about Ken. 👍👍
Agreed brother. I'm a Louisiana southerner born and raised, that wants to leave the south, and move where it's cold. The humid volcanic heat gets old after a while. I'd much rather White Christmases, where the house a/c doesn't have to be used. The heat takes the Joy of Christmas Season away.
@@sonnyseabury4051 hey Sonny’ I’m a born and raised hillbilly from up north I lived in Sarasota Fla, for 7 years I know what your saying about the summer Heat very 🥵 Hot plus the nasty Hurricanes that come through the gulf that’s why I high tailed outa there Your definitely ready for spring to come though
@@jasoneardley2202 Lived all over the world. Been in the AZ desert for over a decade.
That being said, the hottest place I've ever been was that southern band of the United States.
It's like the same heat we have out here in the desert only with 110% humidity added in!
How peeps live in Florida, I've not a clue.
Showed up to a work site, middle of a south Carolina summer, in jeans because in the desert you cover up. The guy I was working with looked at me like I was insane.
Was @ the closest dollar store at lunch buying the least amount of clothing I could.
Fuck that
Beautiful
Mint
My first bike 5th birthday present!!!!!! Love that thing
Me too I was 6
Yup my first bike as well 🤙🏻 it was used I mowed lawn’s in the neighborhood over a couple summers so cool
Wonderful video. Beautiful machine. Had a 1975 XR75 for my 2nd bike after a QA50.
I had a yellow QA 50 I hated it I wanted an xr75 or a z50 even lol
That's my fist ever motorcycle
Wish that I had one of those when I was 8 or 10 years old but they were not even making them yet.Hond was making SL 70's back then though.A friend of mine had one and let me ride it.That was the first bike I rode that had a clutch and 4 gears. My Parents later bought me a 72 SL 100.
Hi mark how are you doing. I hope you had a good day. I’m Maria from Minnesota and I’m looking for a new friend okay 😊
awesome!
I knew 3 kids back in the day around were I lived back in 1975.was 3 of these bikes all of us kids would take turns riding them.we had a blast.those bikes run forever you can't kill it
I had a 1974 XR75 in the late 1970's. Got it from my older cousin who bought it new.
That was a very popular bike back in the day as I remember,XR 75 with a Hooker header pipe
When a motorcycle was a real motorcycle!
just picked one up today from a yard sale its a 73 its rough but the price was right 40 bucks
had a 74&76 as a kid this one is Beautiful
what is that husky in the background? that looks nice too.............
Always has been my favorite year XR75 ...love the color & bubble tank 😎
Wheeee 👦
Remember me dad having the 125 good bikes
She needs a custom exhaust. These bikes were rippers for those 12 and under.
Bad ass 👍🏻💯
Very nice I had a 76' loved mine!
59, many many guys my age grew up.on these bikes. Simple and fun. I fell in love wiyh bikes on xr75 and yamaha 60 2 stroke both mid 70s bikes, 11 to 13 these bikes made me rider for life.
Im coming up on 63 yrs old, I used to have an sl70 back in the day when these came out...used to lust after the xr75 becuz it had the classic upright cylinder LOL I never did get one but I used to race my sl 70 with those same xr 75's on the track...I modded my exhaust, had a giant mikuni carb adapted to it and put huge shocks on forward mounts I welded to the swingarm so it had lots of travel.. even still, those xr's were tough to beat.
Lol, I had an sl70 also and was pissed when this came out with a proper engine!
This is good stuff. I need to go check my 1973's vin numbers. I am lucky enough to have 2 of the 1973's. The original seat cover have a rougher grain to them than the smooth cover on the 1974 and up.
I need to check the serial number on the one i have A friend owned a Honda dealer ship and when they first came out he sold me one I remember my wife who weight 110lb went to ride it she did a wheelie a cross the driveway played with it a few years then put in storage along with a lot of other stuff over the years.
That is one gorgeous little XR 75. Paint and graphics on it are sick. Gorgeous color combination. Looks like a fun bike to ride. I would have loved to have had one of these when I was a kid. Definitely a great pit bike. Made in the year that I was born. Lol
Great little bike.my buddy had one back in 76/ 78 and his brother had a CL 100 street bike.bulletproof !
My dad bought me the ugly QA 50 I WANTED the XR75 . I'm 58 now and ride a Fat boy . I've ridden my whole life I started on the Honda 50
My second bike was a Yamaha gt 60
That QA would be worth a fortune now!
Wow this wee bike is awesome thanks Ken jr.
The grey ghost

What a beauty.
Bike.of my youth, buddy had one rode it a ton loved it
woulda loved it as a kid
Used to ride back in 76 with a young fella who had one of these
Had diff sticker on tank
Silver xr 75
I had a yam gtmxa 80
But I loved the note
Of the xr
Those were dreamy days
I still have my 1977 xr75, it’s bullet proof
I does need a muffler, cables, tires
I learned to ride on one of those.
I’d only ridden an auto mini bike before then.
I distinctly remember being on a sheep station in outback Australia and gagging for a ride as soon as I got there.
Our friends who owned the bike showed me how to use the clutch and gears, and I was away.
It was a massive paddock so nothing to crash into which helped, but in about half an hour I was away.
I rode that thing nonstop all weekend, and I was hooked.
Yep, that one was in my dreams as a kid and I never got one. Went from JT60 Mini Enduro to YZ80
The best of the 1970s these bikes were so reliable
Cool 😎🏁🚀
Come on you just made a video and said you never give away anything.
So who is responsible for this?
That's the first real motorcycle I rode.
As reliable, and fun as you can get.
I can remember when my Dad's friend mr. George etheridge the designer of the Honda Elsinore originally brought one of these out to Indian dunes I was 10 years old My brother and me got to ride the crap out of it it's probably not the same bike but it brings back that good memory of being ten years old and they brought that bike out for us to play with along with the new CR250 is that my dad and my uncle's the Husqvarna is in the cdc's he's had the day off
How much is it?
I had the Xr75 in red when I was younger first bike I ever Rode great bike 👍
We're a beast had one when was young
How much you want for xr75
I'm 64. My First dirt bike.😊👍
Wow, just wow!
