This is absolutely brilliant - in many ways almost as good as being there yourself because you get Sandy's commentary so you can appreciate whats in front of you. So glad Monro live scored the invite.
Actually, Sandy's commentary makes it better than being there. It would have been criminal if he hadn't gotten an invite. I wish there had been better lighting, Many of the details are lost in the shadows. Perhaps some readers with super video processing skills/software can send Sandy some enhancements ???
@@excelrobot well....Munro wasn't impressed by the car body and the way/quality it was produced. However, if I remember correctly, various Munro employees bought a Tesla after they went through the tech of the drivetrain and battery. In the end it's better to drive with great technology with a bit of a imperfect body, than driving a technological turd that looks nice. Like with everything important, you should always start from a solid base/foundation.
The Cybertruck reveal and Sandy convinced me to go big with Tesla in January 2020 . I wanted to try and help our future be a cleaner one. I always wanted to see our planet from orbit and now I will be able to!
Pretty simple, Sandy is an insider Engineer … he’s probably too professional to take any credit for his inputs, just impressed that Tesla listens and implements …
I love how open they are. The tabless batteries, the cooling system, everything open to see. They seem to be completely unafraid of the competition catching up...

Wow, seeing the large front and rear casting and the exploded depictions of traditional body construction side by side provides a power visual comparison of just how precise the megacastings are. You need say no more, it’s simple staggering!
I’m an ex diesel mechanic who can see my profession of ice gone in the next 10 years. Now I just Drive & can’t wait for Munro to possibly get thier hands on a Tesla semi
@@desielwebster We will see combustion engine cars etc go off the road, but I think diesel and petrol vehicles will be around for another 20 years plus. Petrol,will remain for motorcycles, classic and exotic cars. Diesel will remain for delivery vehicles, heavy plant, fire trucks and ambulances until electric technology provides a viable alternative.
@@desielwebster - try less than 5 years. many States have CARB bans set to take effect in 2025 , starting with State Vehicle motorpool. then to Light GAS Vehicles/small engines , and Med/HD vehicles by 2030.

This factory is a summation of lessons learned and feedback received. Those front and back castings are brilliant. Sandy is very modest; he does a great job of not saying “I told you so“. In many ways Sandy deserves much of the credit for what he’s seeing and sharing.

The OEM/Legacy auto manufacturers are just all now basically shitting themselves about what’s gonna happen next year. That’s the difference between Tesla and everyone else.

It is amazing that Tesla showed the old welded model 3 pieces vs the mega cast, as if they were showing their history ,where they have been, and now today.
Roadmap for the legacy cos to get with it. So far it looks Volvo whose retooling their main plant in Sweden to make only evs from late 2025. Spending billions to do it, will use a single piece rear casting like this. Nio also claims the upcoming et5 which is a model 3 competitor launching later this year will have a single piece rear casting assembly. I can't wait to see in 3-5 year's just how many manufacturer's use large castings. And how much the tech evolves from here. Oh and the tesla patent to make the entire outer frame from one giant casting in the 12k ton press could also happen. Imagine basically a whole car assembled from just 4 mega castings. 👍🏻😎

Outstanding! I work in the sand casting industry and did a co-op back in the day with Mercury Marine when they had, at the time the largest Frech machine in N.A. It is so exciting to see casting take a front seat in all this technology. This is all I wanted to see out of all the footage taken by folks! I hope you guys got to see the IDRA they had on display! Excited for the remaining walkthrough!!
IDRA now has a 5500 TON Gigacast machine capable of making a whole car body in ONE shot. and they have a 9000 TON Gigapress for even Larger Single casting.

Better than being there is getting a guided tour by Sandy explaining what on earth you are looking at
everyone else is there for the party, whilst Munro boys are there for undercover work mission, together with spies from Ford and GM.
