@@excelrobot well....Munro wasn't impressed by the car body and the way/quality it was produced. However, if I remember correctly, various Munro employees bought a Tesla after they went through the tech of the drivetrain and battery.
In the end it's better to drive with great technology with a bit of a imperfect body, than driving a technological turd that looks nice.
Like with everything important, you should always start from a solid base/foundation.

Roadmap for the legacy cos to get with it. So far it looks Volvo whose retooling their main plant in Sweden to make only evs from late 2025. Spending billions to do it, will use a single piece rear casting like this.
Nio also claims the upcoming et5 which is a model 3 competitor launching later this year will have a single piece rear casting assembly.
I can't wait to see in 3-5 year's just how many manufacturer's use large castings. And how much the tech evolves from here.
Oh and the tesla patent to make the entire outer frame from one giant casting in the 12k ton press could also happen.
Imagine basically a whole car assembled from just 4 mega castings. 👍🏻😎

@@4literv6 "Nio also claims the upcoming et5 ... will have a single piece rear casting assembly." Maybe Nio will do so but that is only a small part of what Tesla did and what Nio cannot do thanks to their battery swap design. Tesla's battery pack is a structural element. It also directly mounts the seats and has a fully integrated BMS electronics. None of which can Hio do.

Outstanding! I work in the sand casting industry and did a co-op back in the day with Mercury Marine when they had, at the time the largest Frech machine in N.A. It is so exciting to see casting take a front seat in all this technology. This is all I wanted to see out of all the footage taken by folks! I hope you guys got to see the IDRA they had on display! Excited for the remaining walkthrough!!

The simplification of the manufacturing process is amazing. Fewer parts, fewer machines, fewer opportunities for error. Faster output. This is great engineering. Many thanks Sandy Munroe for explaining it so well!
