  • Learn the "Fat" altissimo fingerings for alto saxophone. These fingerings are quick to learn and are used when you really want to get a big sound in the altissimo. Great for jazz improvisation.

      Either Palm D overblown up a 6th or play it like middle D (123456) and over blow an octave and a 6th. Open will overblow to Bb

    I find the 2-3 fingering for altissimo alto to require much more voicing precision than the other nearby altissimo notes. Is this just me, or could it be due to my horn, a Selmer Super Action 80? The long fingerings for altissimo A come pretty easily. I do practice getting altissimo A by overblowing low B-Flat.

      @randalclarkmusic4333  7 місяців тому

      On a Selmer horn you probably need to finger it 2-3 in the left, 456 in the right. But it will be more sharp.

      @@randalclarkmusic4333 , is this characteristic of all Selmer altos of all vintages, or just more modern ones?

      @randalclarkmusic4333  7 місяців тому

      Every saxophone model will vary. It is typical of many Selmer horns though

    Nice stuff Randall. I actually learn a couple! 😀. I used the « Brandon Fields » fingerings that works for both alto and tenor all my life. But it is definitely interesting to explore these ones! Thanks.

      Thanks. These are just some I got used to on my alto over the years. I’d love to know your “Brandon Fields” fingerings. 👆

    Great video thanks! Do you have an alternate fingering for high C# (Concert E) Not looking for altissimo but the regular open C#. This tends to be thin for me. Thanks.

      You can lay down all three fingers on the right hand and that beefs it up and brings the pitch down a bit. You can also finger 2-3 on the left and 456 and C on the right.

    By the way can you make a PDF of these fingerings?
