    At around 135kg it’s only a heavy bike compared to a light bike.
    I came down from 1200cc adventure bikes, and for me the DRZ400E is a lightweight toy. It’s all relative.

    At least one has been ridden across the Simpson Desert without any bike problems at all.

      It’s not dramatic, these bikes really are that good , do your scheduled maintenance and take care of it ... I don’t see any problem with it going 400,000 km , engine wise of course , other mechanical parts will need to be replaced axle bearings , brakes , transmission gearing and clutch assemblies , suspension components, rebuild carburetor, those all wear out .

      It's the proper way of pronouncing it, something the Americans unfortunately lack.

      Random Adventures some say zed or zebra for the letter "z" so that one doesn't misunderstand thinking your saying "c" or "b" or "e" ,you get the idea. same reason cops always use names to represent letters whn calling in licence #'s to do away with confusion. Hope that helped.

      @@jimmyjamespwnysux comes down to how the bike was treated when ran in and owned I can see why many people only get to 20k before a rebuild no mechanical sympathy what so ever from most blokes who ride dirt bikes. I got 220k out of my DR650 never pulled it apart. My best mate has a 2003 DRz he’s owned since new with 153k on it he’s in the same boat. Yet the kid down the street with the 2020 cape York edition is on his 5th rebuild at 12k. It all depends on how you treat it.

      great engine/gearbox also very reliable, good brakes, sitting posotion is comfy and roomy....but the chassi geometry and suspensions simply *KILLS* the potential bike...front-end never ever has any grip due to the extremly bad forks, and the rear-end also never has any grip at all due to the waaaay to long swing-arm...on dirt is almost impossible to get the front end up on a wheelie...which is like "Task-number 1" of a dirt-bike!....also, obviously its important for a dirt-bike to be able to find traction on slippery conditions (since you ride on, emm, dirt?!!), but this bike never ever finds any traction whatsoever, it doesnt matter what tires you put on it, it doesnt matter what suspension setting you do to it, it doesnt matter even if you sit your fat ass all the way back on the fender, the bike just never finds traction...and of course, since the forks simply suck and the bike is front-heavy, the front-end is always "bogging down" on every single obstacle...the bike is just simply unable to handle true sporty off-road....the supermoto version of this might be any good, but man, dont waste your money on this if you are serious about off-roading...lucky me i never came to the point of actually buying this bike for myself...at the time i was riding a KXF250 and my brother had a CRF450...my father bought himself the DR400 to ride with us in the local trails...and from day one to last day he regreted buying this bike..i rode it everywhere: trails, fireroads, motocross tracks, and even some "amature" enduro races, and man, what a hell of a bad bike...BUT, if you are not *that* serious about *REAL* off-roading, trails, enduro, motocross and stuff like that, and all you want is a reliable bike to "enjoy the woods" at a slow/comfortable pace, then this bike will be just fine...but hey, dont ever get pumped up for "sporty" riding race with your buddys if you are sitting on one of these! you might get hurt! seriously..

    • @MrFreeze79
      @MrFreeze79 9 років тому +1

      Pe Peroni good to know! wow... i guess most people just get this bike for slowish pace off roading. definitely not 100% offroad bike, but it was never claimed to be that anyway. I may go for the KTM 690 Enduro R. it's been on my radar for a few months now, getting ready !!

      well yes i admit we (me and my brother/father) were a bit unfair with the DR...we were real enduro/motocrossers, we were used to stuff like KXFs and CRFs, you know, the real off-road machines...and when we bought the DR we were kind of expecting it to be at least comparable with the 250s four stroke mx'ers..but what we found was just a street legal bike that happens to be happy when there is no pavement anymore...so yeah as i said, if one isnt that serious about off-roading, then the DR is actually a great allround bike, just dont expect sportyness out of it...KTMs are good man, while they are working..if you are worried about quality and repair costs, think twice before you lay down some serious cash on KTMs...while they work they are one of the very best, the real question is "for how long will it work"...my father has a 990 Adventure and nothing but problems with it..back in my motocross days a couple of buddys had EXCs and SXFs and also nothing but problems...but time has passed and KTM has come a long way, i am not sure how they're quality stand now a days...try talking to people that own them see what they say...but as far as a "properly working" 690R goes, all i can say is that i loved it after riding one..even tho its a big heavy street legal machine, it felt like my light, nimble, sparkly motocross bikes when i took it on dirt (it was just a test drive at a motorcycle show, but it was enough to love it)..looks great aswell

      Pe Peroni This is my first motorbike having just got my license a few months ago. I ride it to work and I don't get too far left behind in the bush with mates on their WR/KTM's etc. I've put 3500+ km's on mine and it's been great to learn on, but yeah it's heavy as fuck picking it up off a hill isn't fun. I tried my mates KTM 520 and holy shit it's so light and nimble, was so much faster but I'll end up wrapped around a tree so I'll get an enduro in a few years once I've gained some more dirt skills. You buy a bike that suits your purpose, mine was to ride the short 5km to work and bush bash on the weekend, easy to learn on, low maintenance and high reliability. Wasn't recommended any other bike except this.
      I don't know what you mean about no able to pop a wheelie? I've just started learning how to jump logs and was able to get the front wheel up?
