Welcome to week 15 of my Mallorca cycling training plan. I think it is also something like week six or seven of the lockdown.
With the amazing weather that we have been having, I have been making the most of my one exercise session a day and going out cycling pretty much every day. With the reduced traffic and fewer people out on the road, riding a bike is an absolute pleasure at the moment.
On this ride, I do one of my favourite cycling routes up Bevis' Thumb and Harting Hill. Will there be a tailwind to make the cycling easier on the way home? Of course not.

I really enjoy and appreciate your films! They have a calming effect for me in this very stressful time. Thank you for making your films so professionally. I realize it takes hard work with much time and dedication to make them beautiful as you do. 👍
I wanted you to know that recently I was feeling a bit lazy one day and was going to skip my bike ride. Then I thought of you and your phrase, “The bikes not going to ride itself”, and it inspired me to get on my bike and ride. I’m so glad I did! Thank you Leonard! 😎👍

Yeah I second the your professionalism. In my most recent vlog I tried to replicate some of your filming, the shots of you approaching this camera - turns out this takes a lot of time, forethought and patience. After giving it a bash once turns out my ride as a whole was much more enjoyable because of it!

I live in a small desert town in California. Yet, separated by thousands of miles, we are both living under government-imposed lockdown and we both need haircuts. I allowed my wife to cut my hair and she did a good job. A few UA-cam videos gave her confidence. Right now, it is our windstorm season--the wind blows relentlessly and gets up to 50 miles per hour. However, when the gusts become breezes, I sneak in a ride. I don't worry about being pulled over because I ride exclusively on remote dirt roads and see only coyotes, lizards, rabbits, squirrels, and snakes--no people.
Your videos inspired me to get back on my bikes. I thank you for that.

I very much enjoy watching your total stats come up on the screen, I must admit I barely look at mine and very much encourages me to do so! As a comparison, since March and the lockdown kicking in - bearing in mind I am single, unattached and furloughed - I have completed two consecutive months above 2000km! April is pretty striking to me, despite no audax sized all day rides, just having lots of opportunities to ride - day in day out -- up to today 28th April I have managed to have ridden a mind boggling 2,384km; most of which is outdoor!

Well done Leonard! The lock down makes riding a joy. Here in San Diego, the “A” roads have been vacant with no pick up trucks edging cyclists into the curbs. I love Di2 for the same reason, indexing. I have more than one set of wheels because of the need for different cassettes for the variety of terrain here. No matter what wheel or which cassette, the derailleur automatically indexes perfectly for each cog. 11 speed is awesome. Stay well and safe. Cheers

Could have started three weeks ago but the weather was too cold for my liking and was just too lazy if the truth be told! Riders like you are my incentive for getting get started. I should have been training on my stationary bike all winter but that didn't happen. Being 77 years old was no excuse at all. Looking out at the snow and ice didn't help. I usually train during the winter on my stationary bike. I transfer U-Tube biking videos to my T.V. and follow along while they ride in perfect weather conditions. This year my riding buddy probably won't coming up from Vegas to ride with me. This was my excuse for not training. So you are my last hope. All the best Leonard!

The roads around here are pretty kaka, so "Nice light" wheels don't last. Also, look into tire size as well. Wider tires absorb the road better and save the wheels. I have 700x25 on all my bikes. Keep pedaling my friend. Great video.

Planet X do some great value bikes with the frames coming from one of the best CF manufacturers in China often better than many of the major brands. With larger tyre clearance you may find them far more comfortable over bumps too with the right tyres and disc brakes will give you safer stopping distances yet you still have a nice road orientated bicycle. Worth considering a gravel bike whichever brand you go for.

Death count only 200... and at my area 30 noted, official, sick cases from population over 100k. Zero deaths. People has done their own isolation and behaviour changes to be safe.
Comparing Sweden to Finland they have over 10x worse than we have. If You had been there with Sweden.. well.. it would have been so much worse than what it is now. For the future we are between rock and hard place; Sweden west and Russia east. If borders are opened before they get things under control we will be f...ed.
Like said; tightest lock has been weather. Three days so far around 10C this Year. But that’ll change in a week or two.. :)

Nice blog! 28 spokes double cross on the back and 20 radially laced on the front? Is that really a suitable pair? Could be, but I would go for 32 or 36 spokes triple cross front and rear, just to be on the safe side. A little heavier, yes, but a lot stronger and with the stresses better distributed over the rim. Keep up the good work!

I got an exercise bike with a flywheel. It cost CDN $250 from Walmart a few years ago. I watch TV while using it, and an hour is quite tolerable, although I usually mix up riding the exercise bike with using weights, etc., and some core exercises.

Hi Leonard, enjoying your content which is quite refreshing from the usual cycling stuff that is posted. Quick question, why do you not ride outside if its raining and have to use the turbo? Given our UK weather it must affect your chances of getting out?

    • @jollygoodvelo
      @jollygoodvelo  4 роки тому

Basically I am a fair weather rider. Yes, it rains a lot here in the UK but not so much that it has a severe impact on my cycling. Having said that, the storms we had earlier in the year were terrible.
