This would have more views if Phil was in the thumbnail😋 One of the greatest back 9 dramas ever in a major IMO. 79 scoring average!? The players wouldn’t put up with something like that today and it would get blown up on social media. Luckily, there’s always a couple players who play through very strategically and don’t complain about course setup. HOF putting performance by Retief Goosen on nearly impossible greens!
Yet another U.S. open where on the back 9, it felt a near certainty Phil was going to take it. Still cannot believe he doesn’t have one of these (99, 04, 06 at the very least felt inevitable)
PHil before the 2018 US Open and confirmed by his playing partner that he had a rock behind his ball in the bunker on 17. Kept him from getting the spin he needed on his bunker shot
that's what happened that day if you were above the hole. But before that, Goosen and phil were making everything. To the point, at PInehurst, the USGA was still seething about that back 9. Too many birdies for the early 2000s USGA
The PGA Championship and Masters are not "open". And giving exemptions makes it less open because there are fewer spots for qualifiers. I don't like the ceremonial exemptions that are given out.
@@richlewis1879 He could have. Do you remember any other tournament that watered greens in between groups DURING the final round of any tournament let alone a major?

This U.S. open has created a slew of U.S. open mini legends
The US Open should be played here, on this golf course MUCH MUSH more… TRUE TIME OF THE PLAYER

really ugly 3-putt from 4' on 17.....then the '06 debacle @ 18. Definite pressure = brainfog issue.
Putting performance gooseneck bsck 9 crazy

Still 3 jacked from 6 feet

“I never should’ve been in that bunker in the first place” was his reply to Fred Funk when he asked him about it
28/66 players shot 80 or higher on this day. 7 of them shot 85 or higher.
"mr lumpy plays with mr buff" - oh man
I'm about a 12 handicap and quite sure I'd be lucky to break 120 in those conditions.
Why is it the only open not to give a lifetime exemption?
USGA is conceited
The Open Championship exemption is until 60 years old, not lifetime.

Also, bring back the dress slacks.
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 era Apperal👌🏻
I think that this was the one phil probably would have not won if he had a chance
That putt on 17. WTF man! And this was before Mickelson absolutely must have at least $200 million in the bank. Damnit Phil
Just another Phil us open disaster
The greens were unplayable. They watered them between groups.
Do your research.
@@John-tr6of so your saying if the greens weren't unplayable, Phil would have won? And I did my own research by watching every shot. Smart guy
@@John-tr6of so you comment about doing research. How'd Phil do in his us open career ? 🐴
