The moment LOVE's THEME starts, the great Jim McKay says " ABC Sports and the United States Golf Association presents ... A National Championship " .... It was an opening I tried NEVER to miss. Those were The Days .....

It is wonderful to see these archived ABC broadcasts here finally . They really need to have the video processed to sharpen the images though as they are quite fuzzy even for standard definition.

Yes, the images are fuzzy. However, they look better than the images I saw on my TV when I originally watched this. 😂

Graham started with three shot deficit, not 3 shot lead. He missed the first fairway only and hit 15 greens and 3 fringes. Not too shabby.

Forgotten these days but one of the great closing rounds in the history of the US Open. Along with Johnny Miller when he won.

@@mattcorcoran7082 disagree. He was six back when he started the final round. He birdied the first four holes to put himself in the picture, the pressure was on for him from then on.

What a fun and different time. No par 5’s in 2. No hats. Small wooden drivers about the size of my 5 wood today. Only one prior golfer on the broadcast. But still entertaining!

So sad David Graham is not a pro that Australians have put on a talked about representation of golf for his country.
    Could play 🇦🇺✅

Yeah he doesnt have the profile of some other names in Australian golf - but true golf fans who know the game certainly know David Graham as one of Australia's best and a 2 time major winner..

Who would have ever thought in 1981 that it would be 32 years before Merion would host another U.S. Open

Stupid of them, IMO. Jack Nicklaus shot -8 at Baltusrol the year before, and Tom Watson -6 at Pebble the next year, but no one suggested the courses weren't good enough for the Open. But because Graham was no Nicklaus or Watson, people groused about the course, forgetting that the US Open is pretty well known for relatively unknown players winning. And Graham had a very good year in 1981.

David receives high praise from Bob Rosburg about his phenomenal golf. I look at my poster of Mr. Hogan almost everyday of him hitting his famous 1 iron back in (1950?). It looked like David was in a similar spot. Ben had been in his horrible auto vs Greyhound bus accident not so many months previously. Congrats David and R.I.P. great champion.

George Burns basically hooked everything, but scrambled very well, or he would have shot like 6 over. Well done.

David Graham has like the most Brooklyn accent ever 😂😂 Burns saying: just gonna go jog&have a few beers, totally different times, if leader at US Open would have few beers a night before last round it would be very, very odd to see it..

Wonder who has the best round in terms of shot accuracy in US Open? This round had found all but one fairways, and found all greens

Burns kind of reminds me of an olden days version of Scottie Scheffler. Including his somewhat ungainly swing.

The USGA must have colored out the tire tracks that were on the second green as the night before, a guy drove hids car on that green and basically destroyed it.
