I actually got to live the greatest MJ fan's dream... I became friends (platonic lol) with Chris Tucker before he was famous - and then he took me to Neverland for 5 days many years later. We were supposed to be working on a screenplay, but we didn't get much work done lol. Background: Went to my first J5 concert at 4 years old, realized his greatness at the Forum in '81, had front row center seats at Dodger Stadium in '84 (God blessed me because even getting tickets to those shows was a crap shoot - and I caught the shirt Michael ripped off of Randy and threw to the crowd), flew home from college in Tennessee TWICE for the Bad tour (had seats in the first 10 rows for what turned out to be his last two full concerts on US soil). AND I KNOW HOW LUCKY I'VE BEEN. Especially because I got to experience the magic of Neverland. It was everything you could ever imagine if you're still in touch with your inner child - and then some; I was exhausted, dirty, and couldn't have enjoyed myself more. I even had my whole arm down the throat of an elephant one morning giving her a can of Mountain Dew. The craziest ish just made perfect sense at Neverland lol. Dude with the elephant also had a baby deer on a leash - I can't make this ish up - and then Chris comes around the corner in full-on Arab gear. So it didn't seem all that weird when Chris - still looking like a sheik - was walking the deer - like it was a dog - on the bridge over the lake lol. And then I got to see MJ be a regular dad. Prince was 5 and Paris was 4, and they were just the sweetest kids (Bigi - Blanket at the time - was an infant the world didn't know about yet). The kids didn't have the full run of the place and Prince duped me into going to the arcade with him without proper permission. MJ wasn't home for the first three days of our stay, but he came home while we were in the arcade - so Prince had some 'splaining to do lol. The kid tried to throw me under the bus, and I LITERALLY watched MJ scolding his kid the way any other dad would 🙂
@@SharpeTech Neverland was a bubble - and I lost touch with reality in just a few days. I can't even imagine how disconnected MJ must have been 😔. At one point when we were in the theater, Chris LITERALLY said, "When we get back to the states... " We were about a 2-3 hour drive away from Los Angeles. Bananas. 🤯
Lovely reaction. I been a fan close on 30+ years and we all know how big this was...it's everything really, what made him come up with the opening dance to Billie Jean? The hair comb etc. Then the lead up dancing to the moonwalk. Then the fact the spin and toe stand never get the recognition it deserves too. These all come together to form the genius of MJ. He was in control of all camera angles in this. He could of sang live but he wasn't allowed to. Yes he was unhappy with his moonwalk and toe stand but he made up for them a minute or so later (repeating them both). We will never see the level of pandemonium this man created before and after this again. He was a superstar already up to this point then went stratespheric.
We had heard on the radio that day that Michael was going to be on the Motown 25 special. I too was really looking forward to his performance more than anyone else's. When he came out with his brothers and then did Billie Jean I felt like I had died and gone to heaven. I was already I really big fan but that night in 1983 Michael shot into the stratosphere. Me, my sister, my grandmother and my father watched this on TV. We were all in awe...The next day in school, I went to all boys predominantly white Jesuit Catholic Prep School in Jersey City, the white kids who used to laugh at Mike said to me, "did you see Michael last night. Man he did his thing" Everyone knew I was a huge Michael fan....Thank you for posting this. It made me happy to see another huge fan get excited about The King of Music, not just pop.
I thought MJ FANGIRL had a 'lock' on the greatest MJ advocate, but I think you got her beat! Michael set the stage for our people, (in general), to really take off on so many other great levels. I don't understand what derailed us, but Michael proved nothing is impossible, IF you know who you are, and where you want to go. I really appreciate you.
*As a huge fan of the Jacksons and of course Michael, I appreciate your commentary. It’s great to get perspective from someone who lived through that and got to see it live. I wasnt born til 91, when “Dangerous” came out so I missed it all. Anyway, I appreciate the video*
Thanks dear for this great video I miss Michael so much . Nobody will be like him again . It’s funny why Michael always say I love my brothers including Jermaine this is not da first time I hear this tho
I remember asking my mom for one of those knock off red leather jackets, that looked like the one he wore in the Beat It video. After I asked her, I had doubts that I was cool enough to even wear a Michael Jackson jacket, and told her I changed my mind. MJ was so cool, it wasn't even cool to copy him. There was no way you could live up to that, if you tried.
I love how the audience was literally speechless when he did the moonwalk the second time, they were so shook. Everytime I watch this video there is this magical and historical aura that surrounds it
That was the deal. Michael told mr Gordy the only way he would perform was if he could have a solo spot with a song off Thriller. which was CBS/Epic records
I remember this night like it was yesterday, I was 8 yrs old as well. I was beyond in love with MJ. I was glued to the TV...not knowing that I was witnessing history, such a magical moment. I couldn't wait to go to school to talk about this with my friends. I miss him greatly 💕This world is worst off without him in it. The world should've cherished him longer, took better care of him💕
I was in my mid-twenties when I saw this because I love Motown music. I don't think I will ever forget this moment. Next to watching The Beatles back in 64 this was the most unbelievable, musical, cultural,World changing moment that can never be eclipsed ever! I never get tired of this performance or the song! I don't think I ever will be. But it does make me sad that he is no longer with us. What a night as you said, to be there to see history being made!
When I saw this for the first time in 1983, I was 14 years old. I can not believe how fast time passes . Michael 's performance was incredible. I'm very sad that this wonderful time is over. Michael Jackson is one and only greatest singer, dancer and entertainer of all time.He is the king of music and dance.👑 Rip king we miss you.😭 Greetings from germany ( React to more Michael Jackson music, please !!)
I saw this Performance I believe on a vhs tape but I really remember my reaction when I got one of the History DVDs with the performance alone Along with Thriller short film. Both blew my mind. That kick in the beginning and moonwalk was what got to learn the whole Performance. Me being a dancer and student of it I enjoyed learning the choreography. He was definitely the greatest in the field of entertainment.
The most underrated move in Billie Jean was when he snatched that Mic off the stand without making it fall. People don’t seem to understand how much control he had of that damn microphone. It was apart of him. Like berry Gordy said” never drop it” watch other videos like smooth criminal, dirty Diana and what not and watch him with the mic! You’ll have a new respect for him if you didn’t notice it already
I can feel your reaction it’s from the heart. MJ is untouchable. That kid reaction at 2:57 is priceless. Can you react to remember the time next? I like how he transition into a jack swing era ;)

The Jackson's stage performance with their signature dance moves line up and that was the first performers to ever do a 30 secs pause w/ a pose, and then go into the next performance song. The Jacksons & Michael dance & singing performance was so very unique back in 1983 Motown 25 TV special was set on fire and that lead Michael Jackson into the Michael Mania for remaining of 1983/1984 Victory Tour era.

The performance that launched thru the stratosphere i remember seeing this on tv i was about 12 or 13 yo ddnt realize what i was watching i just wanted to hear billie jean lol
Wauw thanks for your video! It is a great video, I like the quality and the way the volume of the music is getting just a little bit lower when you are speaking. In many video's the music is stays to loud. I really like to hear your story and hear how special this moment was in music history. Great performances are common these days and I don't think that young people can really understand that there was a time that it was just singing or it was dancing, Michael Jackson sung and danced.
BTW, it’s not that he couldn’t sing BILLIE JEAN live that day; he could’ve, but he wanted the performance to be absolutely perfect. He obviously sang and danced up a storm to it in countless live shows later on. Plus he just finished singing the J5 segment live. This was more about the first live impression more than anything else; no shade will ever be needed here for that choice. It was the right one.

OHH YESS KING OF POP RIP❤️❤️
Yessss
Wauw thanks for your video! It is a great video, I like the quality and the way the volume of the music is getting just a little bit lower when you are speaking. In many video's the music is stays to loud. I really like to hear your story and hear how special this moment was in music history. Great performances are common these days and I don't think that young people can really understand that there was a time that it was just singing or it was dancing, Michael Jackson sung and danced.
+mindfield9 Thank you. It was from the heart, and I couldn’t agree more!
+mindfield9 than you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
