As he should. He has a mirror to view the rear in that truck, its not a box van where there's no pass through, he can get into the back from he driver seat, he couldn't hear the wind noise cuz he is wearing ear buds as well which makes him REALLY dumb.

As an ex FedEx driver for an authorized FedEx subsidiary (someone bought a couple FedEx routes and was trying to get it up and running) those box truck latches are unbelievably easy to break and with how loud the engines and racket is in the box that guy would never have knock he was leaking packages until he got to his first delivery and went to grab a box
i did delieveries and have done this, nothing fell out luckily. Get in a hurry think you closed it but you didn't. I would regularly (once a week) have to pull over and double check because I would be scared I left it open.
TBH, this dude prob works LONG shifts. Just as the warhouse crews do. 10s and 14-hour shifts really ware you down. I wouldn't call this delivery driver dumb... just worn...
Also with only the side mirrors he wouldn’t have an easy way of knowing if there’s stuff falling out unless it was loud, and the front of that vehicle already sounded loud so…

As a FedEx delivery driver i did this a few times. When you have a large heavy delivery out the back of the truck then go back to the front of the truck afterwards, these things can happen. Thats why I started to make myself close the door after i had to get a package from the back of the truck after the second time it happened. Thankfully i didnt have anything fall out but it does happen. Plus your going a million miles an hour, the company does not care, and neither does the contractor. Get the packages delivered fast or esle find a different job. That's the company motto. Thats just how things are done in this country. Safety is never considered a priority no matter what they say.

If it's federally regulated work, safety is almost always top priority. OSHA doesn't play, not even a little when it comes to safety on government sites. Yes, there are industries where OSHA falls back and allows the money to be made, but for the most part, federal contractors and federal employees are subject to OSHAs God-like power.

It's a repetitive job and sometimes you just forget to close the back door. Some drivers have over 300 stops every day. It happens. I guarantee you every deliver driver has done this at some point, whether you want to admit it or not.

I've seen the complete video. The person filming is someone who is not it's owner and is taking care of the dog whilst their owner is away. So the dog was in complete darkness and scared.

It's the LAW! I don't know of ANYWHERE that it's legal to leave THAT door open. EDIT: It's ALWAYS the driver's RESPONSIBILITY to make sure that door is secure, not to mention EVERYTHING else involving the truck. I use to drive trucks just like that one, so I know!

I had the same problem too, I was surprised I never even felt that the door latch broke, so glad that nothing fell out onto the highway.
A magnetic sensor and a light on the dash would be an easy and cheap way of notifying the driver that the door was open.

As a USPS driver, I had been working 15 hours shifts, from 7 to 11, all December. Don't doubt it at all

Delivery driver stpped, listened, said "thank you" and rectified the problem. I don't think the delivery driver is dumb, certainly a little forgetful, but not dumb. The dumb thing to do would be to double down, swear and ignore the advice.

How do the people who got a message saying your packages fell off the truck and was run over by a driver cuz your driver couldn't close the god damned door, lazy or incompetent. Why defend this DUMB driver? He is a dumb and he is the reason our shit gets lost, and prices for shipping go up as they have to cover these loses cuz the guy couldn't be bothered, I don't care if he worked 12 or 14 hours, you CHECK the door before you drive off. I've been there, I've done the job and I've NEVER drove off without visibly checking that back door. It is SOOOOO easy there is not an excuse in the world that would justify this happening.
