  • Ever wonder how that backpack that carries everything you need gets made? I stopped by Mystery Ranch's production and design facility to see how my favorite backpacks go from pieces of fabric to one of the most useful backpacking items you can own.
    Unfortunately I wasn't able to show you everything, as some of the design secrets are, well, secret.

    Loved their packs when I was a wildland firefighter from 2012 to 2014 and I've loved using their bags since Ive been in the Army. Big Army won't issue them but individual units frequently use their budgets to purchase and issue them. Spectacular company and product!

    Very interesting, I didn’t know Mystery Ranch was headquartered in Bozeman or made packs for the military and firefighters. I was in the US Navy from ‘69 to ‘72 so as you can imagine I am “gifted with age” but I go day hiking every day now that I am retired. I have two Mystery Ranch packs, the Rip Ruck 15 and the Coulee 25 both of which I am Very happy with. I use the Rip Ruck for shorter hikes of 5-6 miles and once a week I do longer hikes of 12-15 miles so I use the Coulee for that. My Coulee was made in Vietnam which is a country I was in when I was in the Navy and it is nice to see they have rebounded economically especially after what we inflicted on them. Anyway nice to see the Mystery Ranch operation in Bozeman and the men and women who work there, thanks for the vid.

    Just got my Terraframe 65l and a Blitz 35l yesterday! You folks do a great job, and though not cheap, I am glad my money went to a product and research that helps us all, especially our men and women in service

    Just bought their new bridger 55L cant wait to test it out! Been a mystery ranch fan for years now! Have owned many! Loved their original bridger (phillipine model) not satL version. Also ran their old bighorn pack for a while. Would love to see them bring the bighorn back new and improved! Their futura harness is amazing! Their nice frame is good too but overkill for what i do. Also like to see a 40 or 50L Rip ruck! I ran the camelbak trizip for years too which was a mystery ranch collab. So many good packs! Like to see a roll top pack of sorts too maybe dyneema fabric?! Thanks guys! Great work always! Hike on!

      Day hike, Coulee 25 or Coulee 40 for overnight.
      Multiple-Days Terraframe packs are solid, trade off is weight.
      Glacier 65 is lightweight

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  2 роки тому

      Hey! Both are great packs but I think I like the Terraframe more. It's more versatile. Glacier has a more traditional design with some people might prefer. Either way can't go wrong!

      @@BackpackingTV no, the shoulder strap wore through while hiking the pct. The material used on that piece creates a weak spot. This is on the Terraframe 50.

    Other than military or fire fighter, yeah I know where most of Mystery Ranch packs are made and that is Vietnam. Behind the scene? Not so much. Hence, the reason the production floor is so empty because these bags are made mostly from another country.

    Noticed Tim Gates said the warehouse was open to military or firefighters, but he didn’t say police. Just wondering what the Mystery Ranch’s company stand is on police that they were excluded from the other service professionals access to the warehouse. Can you clarify?

    • @BackpackingTV
      @BackpackingTV  3 роки тому +3

      Hey Dan! Absolutely. It's my understanding that Mystery Ranch has contracts with the military for backpacks specialized to their needs, and the same goes for firefighters, especially wildland firefighters. Each group has a need for extremely robust backpacks they carry specialized equipment. They're not discriminating against police, it's just that police don't typically need specialized backpacks in the same way.
