    I found that the weird thumb placement and super tight thumb piping issues from the Cletos are batch specific. The ones that I got a month ago were from an older batch, and had the thumb issues. The newest pair that came in today had no thumb problems. My older pair had the logo cracking and chipping off easily, while the newer pair doesn't have that issue. I noticed that there is a slight drop of quality in the newer glove's leather, as it felt a little bit thinner and the grain of the leather was not as pronounced. The red on the newer glove isn't as vibrant as the older pair.

    Carlo - your reviews are always appreciated. I bought a pair of these gloves about a year ago. The gloves are works of art and built like tanks. I liked the hand compartment and the padding but had an issue with the forearms being much too tight. I'm 6ft tall, 175 lbs and my forearms are not that large. My gloves were also very heavy. They were supposed to be 16 oz and felt more like 20 oz. I did not order mine directly from Cleto Reyes. Maybe that would make a difference. If they had fit and were on weight they would have been my favorite gloves.

      Reyes are notorious for being overweight, its a real problem they need to correct already! I have a pair of 14 oz that weigh more than my 16 oz Sabas. Cant even use them to spar with as my gym requires 16 oz. My 14 oz actually weigh just over 17 oz and I ordered them directly from Cleto Reyes.

    I prefer a 12 oz glove for bag work. Found an online shop that has the Reyes Traditional Training gloves just like the pair you reviewed in blue but in 10 0z (which seems a bit rare). Do you think the 10's would get me close to 12oz given Reyes reputation for overweight gloves?

      Thanks for the support, i truly appreciate it! As far as a timeline on when they made the changes I honestly couldn’t tell you, this was my first pair of their training/ velcro versions in years. My previous training versions I purchased maybe 7 years ago. So sometime between then and now i believe they slowly modified the glove based on both customer feedback and the overall glove market going towards more form-fitting gloves. My previous red lace up models had very soft foam to where you could feel the knuckles go through and a more awkward feeling thumb and hand compartment. These velcro versions feel like the thumb is more natural and the hand compartment is more comfortable overall. Hope that helps!

    • @csquaredboxing

    Wondering if anyone has any input/help on a weird situation I have regarding these gloves. I ordered a pair from official Amazon store. One glove ended up basically missing the "slot" in the fingertips that you kind of hook your fingertips behind, so I ordered the exact same pair again (12oz, silver, velcro). The next pair that arrived were VERY different. They look different, feel different, in many ways. One pair weighs almost exactly 12oz each glove, the others were ~16oz (to be clear, they are both labelled 12oz, as I had ordered, but their actual weights when on the scale are 12oz vs 16oz). The lighter pair (the ones that ended up weighing almost exactly the correct 12oz they are supposed to be) have a more noticeable leather grain, a much thinner and less soft foam, not as shiny looking, larger ventilation holes in the thumbs, the "12oz" label is a darker black font, the end of the velcro strap is a rounded end (vs. a slightly more "square" end on the other pair), a smaller and less pronounced font/characters for the stamp that they put on the wrist of each gloves, and more. But the biggest difference is the look and feel of the foam. I'm trying to figure out if one of these pairs is perhaps a counterfeit, or if one may be an older model and Cleto Reyes changed how they make the gloves, or any other reason why these gloves are so drastically different. Overall they both seem to have very high standards in terms of the stitching/quality, but they are clearly very different in other ways.

    Would u recommend the lace ups or the Velcro I have Laceup gloves and lace loops and if I was to get the lace ups I would do the lace loops on the Reyes. But I’m not sure which one either Velcro or lace up

    • @csquaredboxing
      @csquaredboxing  4 роки тому +1

      Lace ups traditionally offer better wrist support because you can get a much tighter form fitting feel with laces. The downside is typically someone has to lace them for you, and unlace them. Lace n loops are a nice supplement but still don’t replicate someone lacing them for you because the top laces are very hard to pull tight even with lace n loops. Velcro is nice for convenience but doesn’t get the same support/ wrist feel as lace ups.

      @@csquaredboxing Awesome, those Titles are the most underrated gloves ever imo! I wish Cleto Reyes didn't have such a bad reputation for sparring because even though they have gotten a lot more protective in recent years, at least my gym people will think you're a dick for sparring in them, even if they're 18oz. If it weren't for that, I'd use Reyes because some people at my gym still use them for sparring (and get tons of shit for it) and they don't hurt noticeably more than any other gloves and I think they're hands down the highest quality glove for under $200

      Yeah Title has been making some damn good gloves for the past few years, you just have to know which ones to get, and to stay away from lol. Yes, it’s slightly more compact but I don’t care for the hybrid lace up system as the laces interfere with the velcro and vice versa and it doesn’t increase the wrist support imo.

    I got my Cletos 16oz recently, according to their website sizing chart I’m in the limit of 14oz and 16oz. I went for the 16oz because I wear hand wraps at all times, so I figured 16s will fit more comfortable. Anyway, I’m feeling there are two different parts at the fingertips of the glove where I could place my fingertips, the first one you can feel it right when you first put the gloves on, but you could “jump” that first fingertip “chamber” and go deeper into the glove so that you can’t really go further on. Idk if you know what I’m talking about based on this explanation, but if you do, where should I stop? At the first trap right after the knuckle bar, or should I jump it and go all the way in to that area where the padding gets rugged?
    Hope you can tell what I’m talking about cause honestly it’s kind of confusing.

    Quick question for a friend who wants to get into amateur fights, VENUM HAMMER Pro or this one( both in 16 0z ) for a power puncher(heavy weight guy in HW category , athletic build ) , for heavy bags , mitts and sparring ,both velcro version including thumb support,wrist support, durablity.Which boosts confidence to punch harder you know initially to get that feel for going harder in training as he is trying to climb the ladder in his league. which you recommend overall as you have more experience? awsum review, i am very concerned about the padding issue everyone talks about with the reyes cs i just bought a pair of 16 oz its already shipped with cleto reyes mitts too and handwraps, are they really bad on the heavy bag cs i am going to be using them as training gloves ? i dont have any problems with my hands and i like to have good feeback but i am a heavy hitter and a heavyweight i dont want a glove to hurt my hands and im worried.

    • @csquaredboxing

      I think you’ll be fine, these gloves have improved their padding IMO and are have a better hand compartment now. If you do need extra protection you can always use knuckle pads to give that extra layer if you need.

    • @_HomerR

      @@csquaredboxing I tried one, and they said the lining portion was vinyl, not leather, so they couldn’t fix it. My Reyes were ordered from Ringside at the beginning of 2011, so I don’t know if it’s just age (even though they weren’t used frequently), a care issue (I’m not sure how to care for them other than keeping them dry and aired out), or if there’s a quality issue. I read on one website that “Ringside Reyes” are a lower quality, but have you seen if that’s true in your experience?

    • @arveenshah8625
      @arveenshah8625 5 років тому

      f O i own both, and prefer the reyes simply cause of the quality and the feedback i get in each punch. Ive also seen recent comments about the drop in quality of sabas gear. My pair of sabas lasted about a year before the stitching started to pop while my reyes had its interior lining torn after 3 years, but i stitched it back. Not gonna lie, both are comfortable just prefer the quality on reyes

    • @csquaredboxing

      Reyes definitely better quality than sabas, but sabas is more comfortable and the knuckle padding is more protective. Reyes is still pretty comfortable and the padding is a tad less protective but gives better pop and feedback than Sabas so it really depends on what your needs are.
