Actually it was confirmed by the author of this comic that Blue did try to go back after her quit the star sans but he was replaced by another version of himself. So paps wouldn't even realize his brother was gone for so long

I really loved how Blue/Swap was portrayed in the comic, he wasn't being a UwU yandere or a over the top softie, but acting his age, with some moments of him being childish. Dream and Ink also did him really dirty with not helping when he needed them most, so I can see why he went to work for Nightmare and his gang. (this portrayal is similar to how my version of Blue/Swap is in my multiverse, DoodleVerse)
I like to think that if blue ever did return to ink and dream they would hopefully learn to appreciate blue more..and the villains would also secretly treat blue like one of there own despite being enemy's again like on the battle field during all the blood and gore..nightmare or dust or anyone on the bad guy gang is like "sup..bro? Ink and Dream do the best they can, but it’s not their fault others aren’t volunteering to help, or can’t keep up and leave. You can clearly see they have their own struggles, and can only keep up with this because one is immortal and the other is incredibly strong and durable with the power to gain energy from positivity.
I find it really strange how people so easily jump on the bus of blaming Ink and Dream when they’re trying their best to keep people safe and happy to avoid Nightmare taking over, and Nightmare’s going out there with his team and massacring people
The funny thing is that the star Sans's is actually a really cool trope. If you really pay attention, you see it's basically like a trio. with a duo inside of it, and you can make a really good story with swap being envious
