A lot of times, the watch industry simply takes itself too seriously, especially in terms of advertising. In this video, I have some fun taking a look at watch ads from some major luxury brands to see whether or not they’re hitting the mark in terms of connecting with their consumers.

You never really own a Rolex. You store it in the safety deposit box for the next flipper.
You never own a Rolex you merely take the place in line from your father.
You never really own a Rolex. It's most likely a super clone and no one will ever know the difference unless they take it off your wrist and examine it with a loupe for 5 minutes and then they may be able to tell but maybe not.
@@yankeesandgiants1886 shut up!!! you're giving away our secrets
@@yankeesandgiants1886 a persons character says a lot about a watch and often not the other way around.
You never really own your place on a Rolex waitlist, you merely look after it for the next generation.
Bulova’s ad i the best ad of them all.
Hey man, big fan of your channel. You’re my place to go when getting new audio gear!
@@TeddyBaldassarre Get outta town! You’re a regular go to for my watch watching. If I ever run out of stuff to review, it’s because I can’t afford it because I’m buying watches, and I blame you for that. You helped to rekindle my appreciation of watches last year. Thanks for that.
PS: I may or may not have ordered a watch from you the other week. Quick shipping and arrival. Well done sir.
THIS is so beautiful!
This bromance is interesting
@@PrashantNeelam lol
I think Breitling thought it was making a beer commercial. 😂
You just literally change the the endscreen to a pic of a bud light and would still make perfect sense
@@Amphibax exactly what I was thinking. Lol 👍
Plus, there was a kind of continuity error with the chick on the wing, you don’t see her climb down. I was expecting some plot twist like sh’s still on the wing or in the plane, but nothing
I could only see the P-51, with a glimpse of those red shorts.
"Mustang: The American legend with a British heart. Because who said a long-range escort fighter can't look good as well?"
I think they totally nailed it. Most people i´ve seen so far, wearing a breitling, are complete and utter douche bags.
The only memorable things from the Breitling AD: Butt
Sure as hell wouldn’t be their fugly watches
He didn’t pick their best ad; remember one with dueling cleavage.
Buttling
@@WestCoastAce27 I need to see that ad now
‘Literally feeling like a peasant right now’ looooool
Haha. I felt that too.
Expensive watch for the bored white people. No life worries, not a care in the world!
Rolex: ‘let’s do ads for watches we don’t make enough of.’
Moser was epic. A gentle swipe at PP.
The best part is that the biggest ad for the Daytona is actually the race itself--it's the Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, after all. Pretty much the surest way to get a Daytona is to win the race...
Next time: Reacting to Submariner and Seamaster 300 commercials, goes on a to watch a dozen Bond films
I think you mean, goes on to watch the same movie a dozen times, each with a different name.
@@Podcastage Aaah I see you are a man of culture as well
@@Nerdhaunt yes and the super secret is, I love James Bond.
@@Podcastage So if I am not wrong this is how the list goes:
Microphone

James Bond
Guitar
The rest
@@Nerdhaunt bond is far down the list. But really enjoy it. Add exploration and horror films above the rest and add Bond after movies in general, and pizza. And you’re good.
**See Patek Commercial**
Me: Sigh... Here we go again. It's probably gonna be rich people doing unrelatable stuff...
Teddy: I already feel poor...
Me: Yeah same...
That ad is the whitest cringiest thing I have ever seen tbh.
EXACTLY, the commercials are just pure people flexing at us?.. what the fuck is that nonsense.
IWC: No updates but a full $600 service every 5 years.
If you can afford an IWC perpetual calendar then I think you can afford the service fees
@@ghostxfairy And if you get a smartwatch the occasional update won't be a problem. Besides, the "All updates included until 2499" slogan is just a blatant lie given the price of the service- Service being the equivalent of a software update.
@@ErikSWE Well if the watch does miraculously work until then, it really needs no update. It probably won't, but it could very well be every 10/15 years, until then the smart watches battery is dead too and you'd need a new one (in percent of the price that might be even more expensive)
@@daveausmunchen7787 If we look at the Apple Watch SE as a standard smartwatch you’d get two brand new watches cheaper than the cost of one IWC service. By the time you’ve owned the IWC for 10 years you could get a new smartwatch every other year and still save money.
@@ErikSWE Given my assumption of it only needing service every 10 years or so, you could maybe get a new Apple Watch twice. But that’s not even the point, the perpetual calendar is more beautiful to look at, will even without service last forever if not damaged (might not work, but lasts forever) and could be a family watch for generations.
Yeah obviously an Apple Watch is much cheaper when regarding loss of value and such, however nobody should ever buy a luxury watch from a financial perspective anyway. It is luxury after all
My wallet: You'll never own a Patek Philippe.
And neither you're son...

“You can’t have it” 😂
It's like that commercial Cartman did for his theme park.
"And the best part is, you can't come!"
I remember the Timex one from when I was a kid...but the Breitling one....its as confusing as trying to actually use a Navitimer in flight.
Timex ads of the '80s and '90s were AMAZING. They did a great one advertising their Indiglo dials that featured a firefly...
Grand Seiko's recent advertisement for their movement is such a romanticized way of showing what's inside the watch rather than the outside which everyone knows, is exceptional. I love that more than any of them from the video except for the Omega one. That was clever.
I will check out the GS ad! Thanks for watching!
I love grand seiko from the inside, the movement are fantastic, I hate the size, the case design, the bracelets and the most stupid complication: Tiny date window
@@Lavi-Aemilia-Astori they're changing that with the new GMTs with a much smaller case size. I hope they do the same revisions to other line ups too
@@PrashantNeelam if it has tiny date window, I hate it
Link?
"Rolex - you can't have it" ... lol loved it.
Timex as luxury? I didn’t expect that ;-)
06:45 "What the hell is happening, Im so confused"
Me too Teddy, but now I want a Breitling
same buddy
More like I want that girl’s ass.
The Patek Philippe ad was unique in the way that I usually don't want to behead every last character I see in an ad, regardless of presented age. I mean... props for that I guess?
"I already feel poor" same 💀 lmao
The Omega "ad" if it's official or not, is great. That sold me.
That Patek ad? whose eyes did not roll about 10 times.
That Breitling ad was literally something I would have come up with. Can I have a corner office on Madison Avenue?
Oh the feeling. My kid didn't strike out in the game Saturday so I gave him my Patek.
I laughed for 2 minutes straight with the first comment "I already feel poor"!. Great video Teddy!
Pateks last so long, because at those prices the owners will pay whatever it costs to keep them maintained and repaired. An orient Bambino could last forever too if maintenance and repair were guaranteed.
What fun! Teddy, I realize now one reason I enjoy your videos so much-you appreciate intelligent, good-humored communication. Additionally, while you clearly have affection for the unutterably-beautiful time pieces (which few of us can hope to own), for you it's doesn't trigger that potentially-insane ego-trip, which some watch aficionados fall pray to. Your honesty, humanity, and sense of humor shine through in this episode. Finally, as one who appreciates historical perspective, thanks for that Bulova ad. We *have* come a long way, eh!
The marketing ad using the Omega was AWESOME! I was laughing so hard. Creative folks!!!!
You never actually own a Seiko, you merely look after it for the next generation.

@@brrepublic8174 Can't even get on board with a Grand Seiko. Still a Seiko. Imagine a Grand Timex, or Grand Casio. Eh, who are we kidding, Casio is already GRAND.
@@erikkalifornia5182 Grand Casio would be redundant
@@erikkalifornia5182 I love grand seiko from the inside, the movement are fantastic, I hate the size, the case design, the bracelets and the most stupid complication: Tiny date window
@@Lavi-Aemilia-Astori Yeah, grand seiko is mechanically a great watch. But for me, it doesn't escape the Seiko brand. Just not a fan.
Someone remind me in 2499 to check on those IWC perpetual calendars.
Man, what a way to start the morning. Thanks Teddy for fresh content!! Perfect with my coffee :)
Happy to help Shawn!
Good content. I also love the little shade thrown at Rolex here haha
Absolutely loved the IWC commercial , priceless!!!!
That was a lot of fun to watch!!! I'm liking the diverse content!
There's an ad that omega made that sent shivers down my spine the first time I saw it. I probably re-watched that ad about 20 times
teddy jamming to the Rolex ad music someone make that a gif
Thanks for that one!
The PP ad reflects their present buyer - new money creating monsters .. Moser&Cie as well as Timex are great, the last one very cool - wish these guys good luck for their mission !
I think you have the wrong idea of what new money looks like
The Patek ad made me want to storm the Bastille. Loved the IWC, Bulova and those brilliant marketeers trying to win clients with the Omega. But c'mon...the Timex ad campaigns will live forever. really fun episode!
Storm the bastille XD hahahahahaha
Loved the selection of ads, but that one at the end with the Omega was one hell of an ad by an agency for their services. Extremely creative thinking.
Awesome stuff! Well done, Teddy!
Awesome Teddy! Loved watching you react to the ads but now I feel I want more watches I can not afford! LOL
Hey Teddy, I hope you do more of these Video's, they are lots of fun.
Teddy the Omega Coaxial Master Chronometer ad with the mechanical cyclists riding around the chapter ring is my favorite ad in the last ten years.
Rolex: "oh, you like our watch? Thats too damn bad."
The first radio commercial was from Bulova also. Great video keep up the good work 👍.
Did Tom Hiddelston do the voice over for the Omega ad?
I’m totally blown away by that Bulova ad 😂. I also happen to own a Bulova watch that I really love (a gold-tone Rolex Date-Just homage from 2010, with a Miyota quartz movement). Quite a workhorse of a watch!
The IWC one is so good 😂
Cool video Teddy!
loved them all..so true for the Rolex ad. Can we expect part 2 of the ad review?
Great vid as usual. LOL'd so hard at "You can't have it" (Rolex)
My favorite is the Moser ad. Funny and relatable.
Excellent show! Lots of fun.
I lost It at the "you can't have It" bit 🤣
Great content as always, Teddy! My mid-video ad after the IWC was an Apple Watch...funny timing
So entertaining! Love it!
I know Rolex were going for the whole 'connection to racing' thing with that Daytona commercial. But to me the first part at 10:18 felt just like Star Wars when an Imperial Dreadnaught suddenly appears, with all the ominous music and black/red lighting. Which is quite fitting for Rolex to be honest.
I don't distinctly remember the Patek ad, but once the music started I was like... ah, I've definitely watched it before. Memorable ad.
The Patek ad makes me want to Occupy Wall Street.
3:50 I like how the "ad agency" has a poster of Rapper's Delight lyrics ;-D
I'm just sitting here, thinking about how that dude in the Patek commercial was driving on the left side of the road. In LA!
...the next generation (not in the car) will inherit the watch faster!
That Breitling commercial was the most stupid thing I have ever seen. And I love it!
Right? Right?
Many watch commercials, much like cologne commercials, appeal to the mystique, long standing pedigree and prestige of the brand more than the actual craftsmanship, because the average consumer just sees watches as fashionable accessories with status attached to them. For people who are into the technical aspects of horology, it would be good to remember that most casual consumers could care less about the various technological marvels that go into watch making.
These reaction videos are great!
The omega ad is great
11:20 Omega for Full Metal Jacket: "THIS IS MY WATCH! THERE ARE MANY LIKE IT BUT THIS ONE IS MINE!"
Very funny Teddy. Great video. More!!!
The race circuit in the Daytona ad is the Yas Marina Circuit
Excellent Teddy, Rolex flame was inspired!
That Omega commercial is genuinely good.
Haha that Moser ad is sick XD
Damn Teddy how are your videos so crispppp!
Excellent and entertaining video. Moser ad excellent, Patek nauseating. Rolex getting too big for their boots - I wonder what Hans Wilsdorf would have made of that ad?
The single best watch ad ever IMO was Rolex ‘It tells history.’ They hit it out of the park with it. They cemented their brand with legendary accomplishments in golf of their brand ambassadors Nicklaus, Woods, Spieth.. Nicklaus has since auctioned his gold Rolex fir charity. Oh the history in that watch! Great content as always Teddy. Stay at it. Thank you.
That commercial says to me: "Breitling, the watch for d*bags"
Made me feel proud for owning a Navitimer! Haha
ya lol Michael Bay made it XD
The guy was playing both chicks, the ad was trying to show how cool he is
Great video Teddy 👍
Need a Part 2!
I like the one Omega made with the Co-Axial Movement, is very beautiful.
Great Video! Very interesting!
"...I already feel poor...a little bit like a peasant..." 😂😂😂😂😂
I don't think I could ever afford H Moser but I absolutely love them from their designs to their marketing.
I've never seen any of these digital ads, but as a subscriber to the Wall St. Journal I see at least one watch ad in the print edition every day. For example, today, Feb. 23, there are 2 ads: A Rolex Daytona featured in a Wempe ad (a Rolex Boutique) and a Sternglas ad, from the watchmaker itself.
1:12 “I already feel poor.” 🤣🤣🤣
The omega add is a little piece of art...
the 'you never actually own...' phrase is so memeable i once analysed the advert for an english essay lmao
A brilliant selection Teddy, I've ordered a couple of Bulova watches before the video even finished. Seriously though the best were IWC and Omega. For a strange reason that I can't quite put my finger on I like the Breitling ad although for I didn't recall any watches in it which is odd, I guess I must have been distracted........... probably buying a Bulova.
No watches were harmed during the making of this comment.
The Omega ad was literally talking about the Rolex ad.
Timex and omega had my favorites.
Love the Bulova one hahaha
I just laughed so hard at the bulova ad lmfao
I loved the Patek ad as it made you feel like a you’re in a time capsule, taking you back to the 60’s when inheriting the watch from your relatives.
Yeah it's a good ad
That pioneer ad is hilarious
Hell yea, another one! :)
Thanks brother!
love that h moser ad..
I thoroughly enjoyed that IWC ad.
That looks was a spitfire in the breitling commercial. That’s grand, the rest of the ad was unremarkable.
The Rolex ad, the only place you can actually find a Daytona.
And the flipper's drawers
I like the direction Kern is taking with Breitling and going away from the Schneiders' era.
Teddy,
Another great piece. As a geezer, I prefer the print ads of yore including the Bulova print ad for the Oceanographer with the hammerheads and the Hamilton Thin-o-matic with the trench coat and Luger. Totally bizarre, but they definitely capture your attention.
I hope that Breitling ad was a specific target ad not meant for the general population, because what the actual fuck?
Sadly, this ad was typical of the style used by Breitling about 5 years ago. Thankfully, the new CEO,George Kern, put a stop to it.

Sadly also to the wings on a pilot watch too...

I think the Rolex Day-Date Ad featuring Jack Nicklaus is pretty dope...,'It doesn't just tell time, it tells history."
Funny does make it more memorable, and yes throw in some polo fields, maybe some crew on a Boston river, just loving my Chevy!
10:53 ... brilliant 😆
“I already feel poor” LOL. Same man, same.
