  • In part 1 of the series on sports recovery massage, we look at techniques for the quadriceps and the broader anterior leg. The goal is to simply reduce recovery time and lessen the likelihood of future injury. This means recovery massage should not be painful or uncomfortable as we're leaving sites of pain and trigger points for another day.
    Recovery massages like these are ideal athletes like multi-stage cyclists whilst on tour as it allows their bodies to recover from the stresses of a hard day's work.
    You'll need a broad contact approach for this technique. We're focussing on the quadriceps anterior and particularly the tibialis anterior, but a similar approach can be applied to other muscle groups just as easily. Just remember to keep the duration of the treatment down and encompass as much of the tissue as possible.
