    Tore 8/14 surgery 8/17. Resumed walking 10/25 , increased to 4 miles a day. Now at 160 miles, started jogging 1/1. Takes time. Hope for sprints in February. Warning don’t be sprinting barefoot on wet grass. I slipped. Was doing 2x25 100 yarders each day. Slipped on #1,709. Aiming for 10,000 next summer. Age 68.

    I am a Christmas accident statistic. I was getting Christmas decorations out of the shed for my wife. I twisted on while on my ladder and heard a loud pop.
    I torn the quad muscle and have a slight tear in the tendon above my knee, left leg. No surgery was needed.
    I am going to need physical therapy, but I can't afford it due to my insurance deductible, so I will have to do this at home. The doctor has me in a knee brace now and has increased the range of motion. I'm a bit scared but it has been a month since the accident and the doctor said it would be ok.
    There is a lot of great information on this video.
    Thank you so much.

    As of last Friday 8/19/22 I am now dealing with my 3rd Left Leg Quad rupture only a week away from beginning my physical therapy from the 2nd surgery. This happened while wearing my full leg brace and stepping down my front step with my repaired leg first. My knee buckled (as much as the brace would allow) and I felt tearing from the top of my knee all the way through the bottom of my knee. The first partial rupture on 12/30/21 (surgery 1/6/22), 2nd full quad rupture 5/30/22 (surgery 6/7/22). I am so upset and am terrified to even take a step without the fear of the horrendous pain of a rupture. My primary ortho doctor has referred me to an ortho specialist to deal with this 3rd rupture. I'm praying this 3rd surgery will work. Thank you for the video.

    How about plyometrics on the operative knee? I can't get the explosive jump on the left (operative knee) that I used to have. I'd like to get back into jump rope workouts again. I can bounce off both feet at once. Although I think my right leg is doing all the work and the left is coming along for the ride. I can do a slight run in place when I spin the rope. But doing single leg hops don't work well with the left leg. I can't get the height I used to get.

    I'm dealing with what I believe to damaged possibly torn or strain't quads. On both legs from standing for hours during my shifts at work. it appeared quite suddenly but it was quite a while ago and I thought I was just getting fat from not moving enough so I tried to adjust by exercising on my days off but it hasn't gotten better. I don't have a lot of pain with it. I do have suddenly stabbing pains sometimes. And it's like a pinprick. It's not usually a deep pain. and I have been to an Edima Specialist and she says that is not what this is at all. I went to a P. C. P he poked my leg with his finger and said. Well, it looks swollen and he gave me a water pill. I know now and neither one of them really knows what they're talking about and I am looking for some advice on how to do this. Make my legs look normal again. I do not have pain and you keep talking about intense pain. That I don't have that. But my knees up and on the outside of my legs is very swollen

    • @focusrehab
      @focusrehab  Рік тому

      'too much' can mean too much force on a stretch (which usually is accompanied by pain), and/or too many repetitions or too frequently (usually followed by pain after into the next days). We use a slow 'ramp' - starting with a few reps with light intensity and care at the end of motion and test for a couple/few days, gradually increasing reps and motion every 2-3 days if the tolerance is there indicated by pain and swelling being no worse 3-6 hours later. Good luck!

      most post op protocols involve 6 weeks of protection in full straight leg brace with minimal rehab but there are a few things to do - unless the doc gave you a paper with your exercises, i'd ask for a PT referral to learn those things. good luck!

He has to wear a leg brace for 2 weeks without bending his leg, so it scares us but we want to make sure we do this right so that we can get him up on his feet. In general for most tears, mobility exercises are done a couple times daily during the earlier stages, progressing to strength with low loads twice daily; for later stages pre-return to sports I mix in daily activity but do strength exercises 3x/week. Thank you so much for responding. I hate to ask more questions, but he was given therapy to start slow exercises 2 wks after his Quad repair. It tore in 2 different areas and this happened after his TKR whixh thank God they caught 1 week after his surgery and repaired it sooner then later which I think is a plus. He has not done many of his PT this week since they gave them to him and says it's way too painful and he is afraid it's too soon but I'm worried if he doesn't push through the pain he will have a stiff leg/knee? We have seen ppl start therapy 6 wks after an injury like this so is it OK for him to take it slow as he is only going on week 3 now? I don't want to push him either because I'm not the one feeling the pain. How long does it take for the major pain to go away? Also, did you have any issues sleeping or getting comfortable to sleep? His nights are so miserable. I pray this phase passes soon as it's very scary and discouraging! I know time heals, but its so hard when there is pain involved. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to make this great video sharing your in depth knowledge and experience. It is very much aprecciated 🙏🙏🙏
    I hope many find it and get the help needed in time to treat this in an early phase. Im sure had I had this kind of accurate professional advice from the start I would have recovered a lot earlier with a lot less loss of strength and stability and possibly made a full recovery early on.
    You have encouraged me to continue my rehabilitation despite the years that has passed since my injury. Obviously it is possible to improve cause this year I have started running again and now can manage 3-4 km a couple of times per week, something I would have said seemed impossible not long ago. My first return to running was facilitated by using a curved running treadmill.
    I do feel instability in my foot & ankle (and weak hamstrings), yes the whole chain is affected. Your single leg stability exercises has been a lot of help here. I will now step it up with your suggested exercises.
    Time to kickstart the healing process!
