Not really sure why people are super surprised. RT’s have been getting smacked left and right by cars that shouldn’t be doing them like this for years now. Pretty much everyone puts the 5.7 at the very bottom of the American v8’s. About 70 extra whp than the Camry to make up for the fact that it’s 700 lbs heavier so yeah the race is pretty fair which should not be the case considering the challenger is made to be an actual performance car with a Rwd V8 and the Camry is made to be in the crossroads of performance and gas saver with a Fwd V6. I respect RT’s because if you build them right they’re monsters but let’s be real here over the last few years dodge could’ve at least upped the power to around 405 hp considering msrp prices for it brand new.
Yeah especially when the rams are 395hp with the 5.7 but the cars get 372hp with the same engine. Also they never put direct injection in ANY of the engines that challengers and chargers have. So yeah, the 5.7 could have easily got up above 400hp and the scats could have easily been 525hp. I have a 15 5.7L challenger. It's fun as hell, but it's just a quick car, not comparable to the camaro or mustang anymore since they have so much more power and are lighter. But I didn't buy mine to be the quickest car out there. I actually traded in a 14 ram with about 460hp neighborhood at the crank. And my R/T was only $24k when it was 2 years old.
@@timmypstyle I fw the fact that dodge decided to keep the classic American muscle car look in the challengers compared to mustangs and cameros but let’s face it there is just absolutely no excuse for them to be that heavy. 370 hp v8 should honestly still be more than adequate to do the job but it’s weight completely engulfs the ratio. Reliability/mpg wise 5.7 hemi>>>any other hemi engine. It would’ve been pretty unique to see awd RT’s on the market besides old police cruisers.
I have a built challenger R/T long tube headers 3.09 gears stronger driveshaft etc. 1st thing is the R/T was never considered a performance trim from Dodge only the R/T Scat and up. 2nd as mentioned building on the 5.7 platform is insanely good and it’s really easy to reach 500+ horsepower in this car. Stock is dog shit do especially the pre 8 speed ones
I agree with everything about this comment, literally read my mind. The 5.7 desperately needed an upgrade in power and Dodge never cared to give it one.
I have a challenger R/T and can honestly say I've never raced a camry trd. But i know on paper their 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are less than a half second apart. Only time I've timed my car, it hit 60 in 5.1. I wouldn't mind racing a camry just for the hell of it. I've lost to 3 cars so far, and i know my car is heavy. So im not one to sit here and say I'd whoop on a trd camry. Im realistic. With that said, also there is a pretty decent difference between an 8spd auto and a 6spd manual challenger. Mine is an 8spd and is also the lightest version of an R/T since mine is a basic R/T with zero options to add more weight. It does seem to be slightly quicker than other 8spd R/Ts. But yeah I'm down to race one just to see. A friend of my buddy has a camry trd and has been wanting to race. I will when i get new tires since mine are 9 years old and i had to plug a nail hole in one. So i dont trust the tires past about 110. But once i get new tires, I'll go up to my 145 limiter all day.
@joemamaisobama5788 not yet. I got new tires last month but they need balanced better. My car shakes randomly at about 35ish, 70ish, and 110ish. I only drive my challenger on nice dry days, so that's why I haven't gotten them rebalanced yet. So I also don't have too great of a chance of randomly running into a camry TRD either. Also my work friend ,who knows the TRD owner, got laid off 3 weeks ago, and I'm having to take care of a few things that recently popped up in my life. I will definitely update if the race gets set up and/or happens. He'll, I'm curious of the outcome too. But honestly, watching this video and other acceleration videos of V6 camrys, my car is still quicker. I also would like to see if a TRD can beat a 2010 or so camaro SS. My buddy has a 10 SS with the 6spd auto and he was BARELY quicker than my car when I had the crappy tires on. Mine hooks a lot better now.
