Hi Craig, I enjoy your channel and have ordered a echo 4th gen as you have sold me on it. Hoping the temperature sensor works to tell the temp in my flat. I use the echo devices to play Amazon music. It’s not a perfect sync between the two. Do you play Amazon music through them? The problem I find is Alexa not finding the album for example. The alexa app integration with Amazon music is a little basic. You see on the Alex app the music your playing but searching music with it is difficult. I’ve started playing music from iPad with Amazon music to everywhere group and it works ok. Still a bit buggy where it hangs from time to time after I have paused the music. The other annoying thing is you can’t seem to fast forward the song. Anyway wondered what your thoughts were? Thanks
If sound is important, definitely the Echo 4th gen. The dot sounds good if you want it in a smaller room for casual listening. The echo 4 has the separate woofer and stereo tweeters.
It would be nice if they put a clock in the full sized echo. I really like my echo dot with clock...but having the option with the larger model would be ideal.
Let's be honest! The sound quality of this new Echo is absolutely incredible. Especially when you setup the Bass, mid range and treble using the Echo app the way you like will give you deeper bass with incredibly realistic vocals with nice and high treble. One sounds amazing but I can only imagine what two would sound like! Excellent device for the price!!!

I now have ordered an Echo Show 8 even though I was ready to buy the show 10, but decided it was more than I needed and I can always add to my collection once I've figured it all out. Thanks for all your great videos on these products....I'm sold!!

Ohh im super glad it has the hub!! For some reason up till now I was thinking this was gonna replace the dot and was super confused at first cause I was like "but this is way too big for some night stands or desks" but then it clicked XD
Hello Areez thank you very much. I appreciate you saying that. The best and respected part. The being old, I can do without. Thanks for watching and the nice words. Have a great day.
Thank you David for checking out the video. Yeah that is a cool option. I like the idea of the temp triggered routines like your ceiling fan. It makes sense to take advantage of the sensor.
I don't think it's the shape itself that is so off-putting, but the fact it's all one solid color. if they had contrasting colors for speaker and base it may be more appealing. great vid.
I am fine with the look. Not a big deal to me. I am trying to understand people’s fixation with the way these things look. I care about how they work and function.
pass, i bought the echo 3rd generation instead as its more solid looking than this one. great deal going on Amazon great indian sale. thanks for the review Craig !
Thank you for checking out the video. I can understand what you’re saying. Especially if you’re not into the design of the new one. They’re both going to do the same things with Alexa.
Thanks Craig! I am very interested in Sidewalk for my folks... they have a huge yard, and I'd love to setup sensors for other places in the yard that are way out of range for any other protocol. Looking forward to seeing what Amazon does with this. Excellent overview!
I think singularly the look takes some getting used to, but looks better as a stereo pair, even different colours (I have red and blue). And heck, stereo pairing them sound so much better.
I have 3 of these new 4th gen. ECHO devices! I love them but am still getting everything figured out! Craig: Can I ask your honest opinion about using less expensive brands vs.AMAZON Smart Plugs ?? I HAVE 4 AMAZON Smart Plugs that I currently use for lights in different rooms. Thanks for your informative and 'Alexa-Free' videos! Victoria
I just got mine today as my early christmas gift. Got it on sale $59.99 payable in 5months. I was so excited but when I connect it to my phone using aux cable it didn’t work only in bluetooth. The reason I got this is to connect my V8 sound card to make a cover song.
Got my Blue version yesterday and really like it! Waiting for the update to start conversations with my echo 4 with the new chip generation! Voice will also change a little bit...we will see...hear
Just got 2 of them on sale. Both together $50. Been messing with light settings and having fun with the Dot. This is my first time with smart home devices and wasn't sure why I would ever connect the Dot to my Firestick. After, watching this vid, sounds like I'd get better sound than my tv is putting out. My theory is that tv manufacturers are making tvs with very crappy sound so that you'll want to by their expensive sound bars and what not. Anyways, glad that I found this video. Thanks!
Glad to hear you’re having fun with your new echoes. I think the quest for thinner TVs has made sound a lack of consideration and you could always buy their sound bar like you said. Thanks for watching have a great day.
@@kyz2458 they both look identical, but the size is what make them different. The Echo Dot has only a smal driver while the Echo has one dedicated Mid range speaker nd two tweeters.
Thanks Craig! I love my echo dot, 2nd gen , but now because of your review, I might try this new device! Love the shape and color choices! Thanks for your channel!
Craig, I have a bit of a story that still has not been resolved. Succinctly as possible, In late March, I had a 2nd Gen (or a 3rd Gen - not sure), which was connected to 3 Different BT Devices in my Basement "Studio". Worked fine every day - I usually connected to my IOTA Stereo Integrated Amp w/BT Receiver. I use and only have Android based cell phones in the house. Then suddenly on March 27th, The Echo would not play on IOTA. Checked the Alexa App, checked the IOTA a number of times. The App showed the 3 devices, but would not connect. After calling IOTA who emailed me that there was no issues reported to them B4 this. I have the updated Firmware. FF, after numerous chats , emails with Amazon: rebooted everything (Routers, Apps, my Google Phone, etc.) The Amazon Agent had me return my 3rd Gen ECHO, warranty had expired, and had to Buy a new 4th Gen ECHO. Finally getting a discount is another story. So after applying all the measures we could think of, the new 4th Gen did the same thing EXCEPT, now it would recognize and connect to BY devices BUT when disconnected and I asked Alexa to Play Music (any previous sources that I use - Tidal Amazon, Spotify), it consistently said: "Sorry, That Device is OffLine". This went on for at least 6 weeks or more. Then as Suddenly, sometime in May, I tried it by asking Alexa to play music and it Worked !! But not for too long. FF, sent back the 3rd Replacement 4th Gen Echo. Then I ordered a new Dot with Clock. The Same Thing. Now I ordered a Refurbished 2nd Gen Echo and the same thing occurs: Sorry, That Device is Off Line. In one email in late April, while I was still pursuing answers, it said that this is a recognized problem which is World Wide. On eposter on their Forum indicated that this happened to him too, But when He used his wife's Apple Phone, there was no such problem. He swears it is a Glitch with Android and Amazon. FF, I discovered that if I pick a source of previously played music selection i the Alexa App, it works when a Pop Up Window comes up asking for me to select which device to play it on. Here's the real Kicker: I have an olsd 1st Gen Echo in the LR , it plays fine (although I never paired it to other BT devices) and a older DOT in the bedroom. No such problems arise. I'm curious if anyone else has encountered this issue? Let me add that I also have a Denon AVR Receiver which uses HEOS as a music selector. In this process of elimination, I deleted the app and rebooted everything - no help.
The echo dot with the clock is my new BFF. Thanks for partially muting the word "Al*xa" . Everything in the house that's connected to it, automatically goes to anticipation mode waiting for a command. Nice review.
Very cool. Glad to hear you love it. The dot with the clock is one of my favorites. It's sitting there and always provides value with the time. Thank you for recognizing my muting. I try not to drive everyone crazy with devices going off. Glad you enjoyed the video. Thank you for watching.
Hi! Good video. One question. If I have a home theater connected to mi wifi, can I Sent alexa an order to stream music from spotify to that home theater with wifi?
Hi Craig, Can you suggest which one of the Echo 4th Gen & the Nest Audio is better in terms of audio quality? Both are priced exactly same & its quite confusing which one to go for. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers!
Here’s a question, what would you recommend. Two new 4th gen echos or a second echo studio? The price would be similar and I have two last gen echos which together sound pretty good, can only imagine what two of the latest echos would sound like, let alone two studios.
For Amazon prime day I got 5 (3rd gen) echo dots for less than the price of this one and I'm extremely happy. I'll just wait a couple of years till these come out on sale.
Got a house full of echoes, I do. Dumb as a box of rocks, sometimes listen, sometimes not, but when it cannot answer ("I don't know that one"), I turn to my two Google Nest Home devices which understands and provides the answer I needed.
Comparing echo dot 3rd gens to a 4th gen echo isnt really accurate... Sure 5 echo dot 3rd gens for the price of one of these is a great deal but that doesnt mean you get 5x the sound quality... These devices are very different.... The echo dots have one single speaker the new 4th gen echo has 2 tweeters and a sub. The difference is night and day and if you are going for sound quality you obviously go for the echo... If you are going for a nice little smart speaker for a little music and voice commands then the echo dot is perfectly acceptable... I snagged an echo dot 3rd gen for free on prime day along with a smart plug. I also bought a couple echo dot 3rd gens for 18 a piece. But I also ordered two echo 4th gens to connect to my TV/Laptop for movies and games. I am disappointed in the new echo dot 4th gen though. It has the same speaker in it they couldn't even be bothered to upgrade the speaker or anything. Though since the new echo dot is a directional speaker now I'm guessing it will probably sound slightly better but you also have to be in front of it. Which for an echo dot I think the 360 sound makes more sense especially if you have a large room and want to place the echo dot in the center of said room. I am glad the echo 4th gen is directional though because im mainly going to use it for movies ect so it will be facing me regardless.
My biggest issue with the echo dot 3rd gen is how muffled Alexa sounds... Its muddy and kind of annoying... you can easily understand her if you don't have hearing issues but still theres no reason the alexa voice cant be nice and clear. Ehen you switch over to amazon music for example the speech is much clearer than the Alexa voice.
Also all of that being said you can just buy some decent wired speakers for cheap and connect them to your echo dots for vastly improved sound quality along with smart capabilities...
Hi Graid and thanks for the video and the review. I have many doubts about the sound, the shape does not bother me since it breaks the pattern of traditional design a bit and this is to risk changing something that already works. I think I'll buy 1 to test it. The contact sensors you showed and are compatible with the Zigbee bridge, which brand? Thank you
@@oneilbuchanan8377 The sound quality is very good, so much so that I use it to set the mood for meetings with friends and family and even to dance. What sometimes fails is the Zigbee bridge, but that depends a lot on the brand of device you are trying to pair. For the rest very happy with the quality of the sound and product.
my dog got ahold of mine, chewed it and it barely got a scratch so durability is not a question , also i absolutely love the sound and i often also use it to connect my pc to my old wireless headphones that dont have bluetooth and use it as a bridge since it has a audio jack and i use it at the pool and its pretty portable and with my power bank i often take it alot of places, also got it on prime day so it was literally like 15$, a steal if u ask me (minus the data collection concerns but i really dont use that part and its often muted)
Hi Craig! GREAT video, as always! I do have a question: Do you know if the INPUT (via Bluetooth or 3.5mm) functionality that you discussed is going to be backported to the 3rd gen (Dot, for the record) via a software update or is that only something for the newer devices, in the hardware? I have in the past wished that my Dot were indeed a Bluetooth input device so I could play my iPod's music on it out through my speakers, soon to be mentioned (of course Amazon Music lets me connect to the Dot and "cast" my current playlist to it), so this would be a very cool feature, though of course I probably wouldn't want to pay $100 just for that. As for the audio quality improvements, I hear them too, BUT I have a very venerable Bose Companion2 (IIRC) set which I enjoy greatly, which has a second input jack (my computer's on primary), and still has wonderful sound even after over five years I'm gonna say, that still bring the bass as strongly as the first day, which is profound to me. The 3.5mm output jack on the Dot is being used in full. :) The hub - I do not currently have any devices that require one, and it seems that Tuya's Smart Life app has me covered for any IoT devices that I may be interested in. A door sensor on the mailbox might be handy in the future, but right now I'm not in need. So, I don't really see the need to upgrade from my current Dot right now. For newcomers to the Alexa-sphere (HAH) and for fans of the snazzy sphere design (I like it indeed!) I would absolutely recommend it. Take care, Craig; have a great day!
Does advertising go away if your a prime member when using this device with Amazon Music? Thanks for the fantastic information and great videos man! Can you run auxiliary out at the same time as the built in speakers of Echo?
Hello Benjamin, thank you for the suggestion. Last year’s third generation echo has the same sound as the echo plus 2nd generation. So what you hear in this video should be a good comparison between to the Plus. It looks like the echo plus will become obsolete. Thank you for checking out the video. Glad you enjoyed it.
I have the Echo Plus, and love it but I’m also curious about this and may get one later, after it’s been on the market for a while. But why would I choose this over the Apple HomePod/Mini?
I have two Echo Plus's synced in my living room to create a simulated stereo sound. When I discovered this I was informed that could only be done with the "plus" model. So, I am curious if the new Echo's will be able to do this also? Thanks for the video.
It’s funny, looking at this now hue commands are pretty much instant, I don’t see any delay these days. I now understand the buttons being on the rear, it’s to discourage their use as this is a VOICE assistant, it makes sense. I hated this design but now love it….it was a little ahead of the curve (lol, sorry!)
The studio will still blow away the new echo. Plus you get Dolby atmos, simulated surroundsound, 3d audio and Hifi music. Plus the studio has more bass. If you are happy with the studio, I think it’s the better sound choice.
I think the studio sounds great. I didn’t keep mine because it is too big for the room I want to put it in. To get the sound out of it it is a decent size. But it sounds great for both music and movies
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks a lot for your reply, really appreciate it, i am thinking on this for my master bedroom which currently what i am using is a stereo pair of 2 echo dot 3rd so i am trying to move to better audio, i was thinking about the studio or maybe 2 of this new echo 4th gen, any input on that setup? Again thanks in advanced for your time and help !
@@CraigsTechTalk brilliant, thank you! That’s just decided it for me. I love the sound of it so far especially for my music and the bass is great on it. I prefer the design of the echo 4th gen but seems like the studio is a better fit for me sound wise.
Hiya there I've just purchest the echo doc. Feathered in your video I've not had a chance to plug it in yet but watching your video makes lookfowerd to setting my echo doc 4 up soon
I don't know if its a apple thing but I like the new round look. Of the speaker but a lot of people is bashing the look for some reason I mean alot. But the homepod mini is also round and you barely here anyone speak about there design choice and I'm trying to figure out why?
I'm not exactly happy with mine. Sometimes it won't stop playing music when you tell it to, and I just have to unplug it. It also just randomly starts talking about something that I haven't mentioned or even said Alexa. I work at home and a customer heard it go off asking me to rate a certain product I had purchased like 4 months prior. Also, it's not as loud as the echo I got 10 years ago.
@@samanthachick5540 big sound and bass definitely gonna have another one but it can do so much more.hopefully it will come back down in price from £90 to £60.
@@samanthachick5540 you can take it back for a refund you bought the echo dot not the 4th generation. Samantha there's nothing wrong with the one you bought. It all depends how big your room is . I use mine set up to tv so I can have quality sound watching movies
Yes. I got one for my birthday, then found about stereo pairing and bought another. It sounds really good. I did have an initial issue initially that the one bought for me was linked to the wife's account, even linked in a family group, the primary account needs to be the same to pair them.
@@Vampireduckling Since I posted my question I got Echo Studios and paired them up. I have them as a pair for music and just one via optic cable for the television. Just having the one Studio on the TV is more than fine enough for me. Having a pair for music is marvelous but I am already toying with the idea of adding a sub-woofer just for some added bone shattering bass on my music.
Does the new Echo 4 Have the temp sensor in it, or am I still stuck with the Echo Plus 2nd generation for that? Nothing wrong with my Echo plus 2, just curious. Great video and thanks for the info.
Thank you Clinton. Glad you enjoyed the video. The Echo 4 gets the temperature sensor too for the first time. They have basically combined the previous regular echo and the plus into one model.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks Craig, glad to hear it. I love the Echo plus, and it works well. I do love the new design look though, so this will be a nice opportunity to upgrade at some point to this new device and keep all the features I've had plus add the new ones. One question, is the temp sensor sensitive enough to pick up heat from my Lava lamp display that the Echo plus is next to? There are about 6 lamps and this morning Alexa said the living room temperature was 84 which was too hot to be accurate. My main thought was could it be picking up the heat being thrown from the lamps since they were on. the lamps are off now and the temperature reading is back down to it's normal range. Thanks again
Thanks for a great product review. Question: I would like to use a pair of Echos for laptop sound. I have one paired by BT fine. Can I use a 3.5 mm jack to connect the 1st Echo to a 2nd Echo to get stereo sound?
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed the video. I think the year is catching up to me. This season is also crazy for tech. Thanks for checking out the video and your comment.

Thanks man. I’ve been wanting something with a temp sensor to trigger my ceiling fan when the room reaches 74 degrees. This is awesome!!!!!
Thank you David for checking out the video. Yeah that is a cool option. I like the idea of the temp triggered routines like your ceiling fan. It makes sense to take advantage of the sensor.
I don't think it's the shape itself that is so off-putting, but the fact it's all one solid color. if they had contrasting colors for speaker and base it may be more appealing. great vid.
That is a great point. The solid color is off putting.
I don’t mind the look. I don’t know why people hate looks so much! I don’t really need it but I’m glad that Normal echos will get cheaper
I am fine with the look. Not a big deal to me. I am trying to understand people’s fixation with the way these things look. I care about how they work and function.
@@4daluvofnikki exactly
pass, i bought the echo 3rd generation instead as its more solid looking than this one. great deal going on Amazon great indian sale. thanks for the review Craig !
Thank you for checking out the video. I can understand what you’re saying. Especially if you’re not into the design of the new one. They’re both going to do the same things with Alexa.
Craig, I have yet to see anyone do a comparison of the following: Echo 4th gen premium sound vs Echo Dot 5th Gen.
I just got one for Christmas, and I love it! The sound is awesome and still learning what it can do! 🥰
Just ordered one for a $69.99 Black Friday sale on Amazon.
When does yours arrive?
@@averyrichardson1133 mine arrives dec 8 or earlier
Mine arrived on December 11th and it was like $30 something.
That good
@@maestroshiryu4776 You got the Echo Dot 4th generation.
Bought one today am impressed with it. Good to know bits I don't know about so cheers dude. stay safe 😄
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoy your echo. Thanks for watching.
I have mine right here, i love it.
Amazon please do an Echo with Airplay and i will buy it like NOW
Apple won't allow that
Thanks Craig! I am very interested in Sidewalk for my folks... they have a huge yard, and I'd love to setup sensors for other places in the yard that are way out of range for any other protocol. Looking forward to seeing what Amazon does with this. Excellent overview!
Love the shape of it better.
Victoria
I saw many bad reviews that I think we're just hater reviews. But now I feel good about buying this for 28$ on cyber Monday
Hey Craig, great vids. Which door sensor are you showing here directly paired to the Echo?
Echo 4th generation is my 1st Echo device and I am pretty impressed with the sound quality.
Thank you! Easy to watch review. Clean and sharp. Good video!
Very cool. Yeah, I want to see how the az1 changes thing.
What about sound how's the sound
@@WargodFilms I really like the Sound with very good price/quality level.
Geez, is this a clear picture! Thanks for the 4K!
the 4th gen audio was so clear it sounded just like i was playing it on my computer ive just bought a red one so exited now
That’s very cool. Hope you enjoy it. Thank you for watching.
Yes the base is really good but the clarity of sound has decreased when compared to 3 Gen, check our the hear the lows and mids
Best review for electronic..Love you sir, love from India. My whole family wish you a successful life ahead. You a a genuine guy.
Guys, amazon throwing huge deal on this one at $69, Already ordered mine nd eager to test it out. Cant beat that price for sure👌👌

Keep in mind that you cannot see the rings & cannot use a remote.
Thanks Craig! I just used your Amazon link to purchase the all-new Echo (4th Gen) in Twilight Blue ☺
I really like the sound and I also like the bright blue light and the thermostat it includes.
The sound improvement is nice and the temp sensor can be great for automations.
Hi! Good video.
One question. If I have a home theater connected to mi wifi, can I Sent alexa an order to stream music from spotify to that home theater with wifi?
I so love how he censors the word alexa, amazing
Why did he do that tho ?
@@alexlcok9832 So it wouldn't set off your Alexa haha!
Hi Craig,
Can you suggest which one of the Echo 4th Gen & the Nest Audio is better in terms of audio quality?
Both are priced exactly same & its quite confusing which one to go for.
Any help will be appreciated.
Cheers!
That audio output is a winner for me. Im connecting with my Devialet Phantom them BOOOM!!
The audio demonstration done perfectly. thanks
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed it.
Here’s a question, what would you recommend. Two new 4th gen echos or a second echo studio? The price would be similar and I have two last gen echos which together sound pretty good, can only imagine what two of the latest echos would sound like, let alone two studios.
Hey so I currently have a echo gen 4 and I'm thinking of buying 1 more i want to know how much of a difference does it make?
ordered it , lets hope its good.
I named mine Echo lol ordered this one so will see what I think when it arrives.
Thanks for the video 📹 I am buying one for my sister for Christmas 🎄
Thank you
I hope you enjoy yours. The Zigbee sensor is from Ecolink.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks
2022 update.did you get the Amazon echo or studio ,and what's your overall experience if you did?
@@oneilbuchanan8377 The sound quality is very good, so much so that I use it to set the mood for meetings with friends and family and even to dance. What sometimes fails is the Zigbee bridge, but that depends a lot on the brand of device you are trying to pair. For the rest very happy with the quality of the sound and product.
my dog got ahold of mine, chewed it and it barely got a scratch so durability is not a question
, also i absolutely love the sound and i often also use it to connect my pc to my old wireless headphones that dont have bluetooth and use it as a bridge since it has a audio jack and i use it at the pool and its pretty portable and with my power bank i often take it alot of places, also got it on prime day so it was literally like 15$, a steal if u ask me (minus the data collection concerns but i really dont use that part and its often muted)
Love this! Keep up the Alexa content. I’m producing some of my own!
Hi Craig, this piece works necessary with power cord?? Thanks
Huge fan of the 3rd Gen because of the 3rd party in ceiling mounts. Not sure if this 4th gen will ever work for that purpose going forward.
The mounts are looking interesting for this design. Don't know if you will get that same thing.
The hub - I do not currently have any devices that require one, and it seems that Tuya's Smart Life app has me covered for any IoT devices that I may be interested in.
No way
Great review. What motion & door sensors did you pair with the hub? Did you get a chance to try out a actual temp sensor routine?
Hello Frank. Thank you. I am glad that you liked the video. It is a Zigbee sensors from Ecolink.
Does advertising go away if your a prime member when using this device with Amazon Music? Thanks for the fantastic information and great videos man!
Can you run auxiliary out at the same time as the built in speakers of Echo?
No, unfortunately using the aux disables the built-in speaker. And Amazon Music is a separate subscription from Amazon Prime.
The charcoal color is most elegant and will blend in most decor
I have it it’s preeeeety preeeeety preeeeety cool 😎 sounds good, good features 👀
Would love to see an Echo 4th Gen vs Echo Plus 2 which is what the new Echo looks to be replacing! :) Great vid.
@@CraigsTechTalk Thanks for that! Glad to see the improvements in sound come to the Echo. Will probably get one to create a stereo pair.
My Alexa 4th gen arrives tomorrow your video helps out of what to expect
I'm wondering how this compares to the Echo Studio for sound? I just purchased a studio earlier this week.
I was wondering how is the sound of the studio in your opinion? Do you like it for music or tv listening. Thanks!
Very cool. That’s nice to hear, thank you. I hope you enjoy your new echo. Thanks for watching.
Good review Craig, thank you.

Great vid but is there a pairing up for stereo version of this yet, dude?
