  • How to make a replica Molson / Moosehead vintage beer crate with box joints (finger joints)

    Materials used:
    (2) 6' Common boards (pine) - Home Depot $22
    (10) 1.5" galvanized box nails - Home Depot $6
    Summer Oak oil stain by Varathane - Home Depot $9
    Polyurethane of your choice
    150 grit / 220 grit / 400 grit / 600 grit / 1200 grit sandpaper - Home Depot & Woodcraft
    Titebond III (outdoor) wood glue + small glue brushes from Woodcraft
    Tools and supplies used:
    12" thickness planer with 4" high capacity dust vacuum
    10" table saw
    Stacked dado blade - 1/4", and adding the .012" shim for lid guide
    Table saw sleds for perfect cross cuts, cut to matching lengths
    Sliding miter saw to rough cut blanks
    Router table with router
    Whiteside Router bit - 1/4" straight bit double flute with 1/2" shank, 3/4" length
    Incra ibox jig
    Marker and pencil
    (2) 18" clamps (for pressing in finger joints)
    (6) 12" clamps (for bottom panel)
    2" brush from dollar store
    6" Random orbital disc sander
    7/8" drill bit and drill
    Time invested:
    Research preparations - 100 hours over several months
    6 practice boxes - 3 months
    2 version 1 boxes - 1 month
    4 version 2 boxes - 2 weeks
    2 version 3 boxes - in progress

    Nice job for your first woodworking project! I like your attention to detail in everything you do. I built a firewood storage shed about a year ago and used your previous video as a guide. Keep up the good work and keep making videos.

    Well presented! I really like your video. Took away some good ideas from this. Thank you ! I would like to see a picture of the originals you used as the models. Also, maybe title a copy of the video with "make" in it, so it pops up in the " how to make a wooden crate" searches. Great job!

    Awesome video. I was planning on buying the same table saw, and the biggest complaint on the reviews was the odd size for the slide. I'll give it a go. Your explanation is fast and detailed. Great job on the video.

      jakea8380 Thanks for watching my video, and compliments. All those contractors table saws (essentially more portable) have narrow/odd miter guide widths, requiring custom fab sleds. I believe any table saw with a cast iron top will get you the right size miter gauge width, 3/4".

    What would you sell one of these boxes for? I want one. I realize a lot of work went into it.
