My car insurance dropped £210 this year. Back to the good old days , though my Focus ST that I had last year dropped to £225 fully comp from £600 ☹️ gutted I got rid. I obviously listened to, to much doom and gloom on the net.
One thing I will say, I’m a firefighter that covers your area, Geoff, I’ve been to a fair few ICE car fires in the past few months, 24 plate bmw, ford ranger, Citroen (some of which were sat on the driveway not in use) and no electric, now I don’t like electric vehicles and I hopefully never will own one. Before anybody slates me… I was going to say you can quite comfortably (usually) put out an ICE car fire with a tank of water, obviously if the oil catches and spreads that can be an issue but some of our trucks carry foam that can deal with that, then it’s another tank or two to ensure it’s damped down for safety. EVs on the other hand seem to be a different ballgame from what I’ve read and heard. If anybody is interested and I apologise for promoting something else, The Firefighters Podcast from Pete Wakefield has some brilliant episodes on EV fires and the challenges etc around them (I haven’t attended an EV fire yet). Again, this comment is to do with it “should” be easier dealing with a non ev fire over an EV. Love the content 👍
The current stats suggest that one in twelve cars in the UK are EVs, you quoted three cases so lets see if that stat stands up then. Also apart from the Beemer you don't mention the age of the others, most ICE fires are in vehicles over ten years old, there aren't many EVs that old around. From a retired firefighter to a current one, stay safe out there.
Your lucky mate... Am aParamedic up north. we have now been issues 3M FF-600 and HF-800 Respirators and told for H&E we MUST wear them round any incidents that are Electic bike/scooter and EV related. No if's or buts as it will be a disciplinary if we don't... Now tell me(not you) EV's are safe...
@ I agree with that mate, I will say for us it’s standard to wear a breathing apparatus set when dealing with any car fires as all of the fumes are toxic, but I agree that the thermal runaway etc fumes are just as bad / worse. The firefighters podcast by Pete Wakefield has some really good episodes on EVs. Again I’m not backing them as I hate them and I’m quite happy with my diesel.. What scares me is the new housing areas near me ALL have EV chargers…
Fellow Firey here and Professional Engineer. Be exceptionally careful at an EV traction battery fire. Hydrogen cyanide and hydrogen fluoride gases are being released as advised by Professor Paul Christensen, UK, in his UA-cam videos. The advice we have here in Australia is "keep well away and let it burn" Obviously if there are people inside rescue them but remember if the fire has disabled the car's system battery on cars with no mechnical connection to the door handles, you will have to force your way in.
in slovenia we just had a fire in highschool students' dorm, one of the photo showed red fire, which probably means something electrical was the cause? like a battery in a scooter or something of the kind?
Unless there is GAP insurance and assuming the EV is financed in some way, the insurance payout at market value will probably not pay the loan off due to depreciation. So deliberate and/or arson is not clever if an insurance payout is the aim.
I love a good conspiracy - the "deliberate" and "arson" line are always interchanged in the same phrase which begs the question, is there a push to imply human caused rather than faulty EVs.
Yes this hateful labour government, will use any excuse to cover up responsibility for electric car fires. Very dangerous vehicles, all Labour politicians should be made to own x drive one.
EV's are just ticking time bombs. What's more if you have the bad luck of being in one while it's catching fire you'll be locked in with doors that won't open because door handles are also electric.
Government are not educating the public about the dangers of these vehicles, especially the wider risks from lethal combustion products of thermal runaway. Wonder why?
They do not want us to know about the dangers and the hassles of owning an EV. I’ve been explaining about how unsafe these batteries are if they catch fire on various pages and I get torn to shreds by the EVangilists firing incorrect stats & insults back at me. I trained as a UK firefighter last year so learnt all about them. Finally this week the truth appears to be getting into the main stream media 🎉.
No different from the energy used to charge these vehicles comes from power stations which also pollute and energy is lost just getting to your chargers and then energy is lost charging your battery vehicles. Not to mention one Battery car fire would cause more environmental damage than several Diesel cars for their hole life span on the road.
I've just been looking at Google maps for this new estate, I used to live in Malvern Link. Houses sandwiched together. Remarkably unless my eyes deceive me, they have installed charges on the walls next to the gas meter & main entry point! So if one goes up, you won't be able to turn the mains gas off!!! Absolutely insane planning and building.😤
Almost classic status for an EV; there will be an annual classic BEV show at the NEC starting next year and any EV over six months old will be eligible with prizes for any that still run under their own power
Every time I hear about electric car batteries suddenly catching fire it scares me, especially as my neighbour parks her electric car (often plugged in) not more than 10ft away from my front window!
I am undecided about a heat pump. I could convert my lounge into a plant room and the old coal cellar into the lounge. But I am finding it a difficult decision.
Little by little people are learning about those rolling fire pits. It’s happening here in the US too. Just recently an EV ignited in the lot at the Olive Garden restaurant right near my house.
I have a heat pump. Damn thing just doesn't provide enough heat when the outside temp is around 3c. Keeps running defrost cycles every 15 mins or so; it stops providing heat (for about 4 minutes). And to top it all, it clicks in the immersion heater element in the new style hot water cylinder just to make hot water. The electric meter just loves us when the immersion is on... (in addition to the heat pump). Definitely is costing a LOT more per annum than running on oil (which is now the cheapest form of heat -Jan 2025).

We had government subsiding heat pumps. We are in rentals now. We have always had a hot water cylinder in the home which fitted in a cupboard and was great for airing clothes. This house has hot water for gas. The size never seemed to be an issue and I wish we still had one. The heat pumps that are on the walls look horrible, the floor level ones aren't that big and tend to heat better. The problem is they need to be cleaned regularly and professionally. Most landlords never do that so it takes more electricity to heat them and they get noisy. Some properties had new ones, never had professional clean or maintenance in 5 years. The next was old and clunky, landlords refused maintenance would only replace it when it died out. The current one was hopeless for heating and was incredibly noisy, we finally got it inspected and the outside vents were totally bunged up - we aren't allowed to touch them for insurance purposes. It was a fire risk apparently. Wouldn't recommend them myself. From New Zealand 🎯💯 We were advised to get one repla
yearly maintenance is a must. We have a central heatpump for floor heating and warm water. And then I have an air/air heatpump in my two rooms that can heat in winter and cool in summer. Works quite well, we are happy. But also comes at a price.
@@svr5423 Most of our landlords are MPs so rental conditions have just been stripped back by the owners. Rents are ridiculous and the houses barely maintained. Glad it's working for you
The difference between ICE and EV fires is that ICE vehicles catch fire due to poor maintenance, EV's catch fire by design. Anyone who uses Lipo batteries in RC models knows only too well that the batteries should be stored at a low storage charge when not in use, never left to charge unattended, and preferably charged in a steel container. Ammo storage crates are the recommended choice. Some hybrids use Nimh batteries that have minimal risk of combusting. Over time Lithium batteries swell up, if you have hundreds in a matrix there is nowhere for the expansion to go. At that point they are a ticking time bomb. Some clowns drive through water in EV's, the only EV that can do that is the Cybertruck, as it has a negative pressure battery, everyone else is kicking off corrosion in the batteries and control systems.
Truly terrifying to think of the outcome if this happened when the family were in the car 😞 Not relevant to video (looking for sympathy if I'm being honest), I've just paid £710 to tax my 2008 Boxster for another year 😭😭

Some years ago I looked at an 11 year old Boxster with 34,000 miles and nine owners. There seemed to be a strong correlation between the car being serviced and getting sold. The services were several hundred pounds each year for a car doing an annual mileage of 2 - 4,000.
Geoff, I visit many of the UKs Police HQs (for work, I might add) and I have seen many of these Peugeot. Just parked up and not being used, because in Winter, they can't guarantee to get them through a full shift. I also saw a burnt out Hyundai battery car with the telltale burn damage all around the nearside, where the metal bodywork was blued from the heat from the batteries. All I will say, is that it was 'up north'.
Holy sheit!😮 I used to work at assembly line at PSA in Trnava. I remember numerous delays in production when they just launched the manufacturing process of the e-Pug 208 in 2019. There were a few recalls from dealerships because of some battery issues (there were rumors that one of the tested cars, that were assembled at the factory, caught fire, and others had other electrical problems), and I saw the whole parking lot between factory buildings stacked with the electric ones. The diesel and petrol ones were selling quick, so they didn’t stack up at the facility, but the electric ones were a huge problem. There were hundreds and hundreds of brand new cars stuck between factory buildings. That’s what I remember. And they’re still, 6 years later, unsafe!🤯
We have had two lithium battery factories go up in flames in Melbourne Australia. Altona in the Western suburbs, out my way. And a Lithium Iron Battery factory in moorabbin out my mums way in the South Eastern suburbs. Toxic smoke all over. Are we learning yet government minister. 😢
Mum was putting something in her bins outside about a year ago, orange lights in the car 2 doors down caught her eye, then she looked closer and saw flames, went back home and called fire service. By the time they got there, flames were setting the roof alight of the house the car was parked in front of and 3 units had to put the fire out. Was a tesla not charging just parked up, so it happens
My last flat had air source heat pump and the wiring and boxes filled my immersion. The bloody thing was useless and I could have heating OR hot water, but not both at the same time, and I had people out repairing it at least 15 times in 18 months, in the end they gave me electric fan heaters. The money I saved was negligible TBH. The house I'm in now has these Dimplex Quantum storage heaters, supposedly cheaper by 27% over trad storage heaters. Guess what?? They cost about £6 per 24 hours to run the big one in the front room, I never have the others on, and I switch the big one off at 8am so it works as a dumb storage heater. I have a hub to control them all but the app is worse than useless and spare parts take months to arrive because the heaters are made in Poland and you struggle to get parts. Nearly everyone near me who has these heaters has had 1 or 2 replaced in the last 18months because they break down. My neighbour had one start smouldering in her front room and all the electricals burnt out but luckily it never set on fire.....

Most fires on normal cars not going to use the term ice 😂😂 are probably started by faulty wiring or electrical faults that's what Google says 😂😂
in slovenia we just had a fire in highschool students' dorm, one of the photo showed red fire, which probably means something electrical was the cause? like a battery in a scooter or something of the kind?
Good bye Peugeot , yet another car manufacturer bites the dust. Au revoir.
Goodbye not au revoir!
Vauxhall will go first! As they own Vauxhall and that will cut costs!
My 1992 205 is still going strong.
Insurance will have clause. Battery fire not included.
No more fire and theft only.
I not only Google "car fires", I get daily alerts. There is a trend towards "deliberate" and "arson" being added to the articles now.
You forgot to mention that the cause of EV car fires, is the work of the far right!
That's why we shouldn't have electric vehicles ever Geoff
Forklifts, milk floats and golf carts may stay.
I feel sad for the motor industry being bullied and forcefully made to sell government ideals ev's
Well that will end before long, as all the dealers will have gone bust.
EV's are just ticking time bombs. What's more if you have the bad luck of being in one while it's catching fire you'll be locked in with doors that won't open because door handles are also electric.
A 23 year old male here in Sydney, Australia died just like that.
@@aeroearthno escape from the jones plantation then 🤪
Government are not educating the public about the dangers of these vehicles, especially the wider risks from lethal combustion products of thermal runaway. Wonder why?
So you think the smoke from a standard vehicle is good for you? 😂
And "DANGER TO LIFE/ RISK OF DEATH" working on them.....
I've just seen a video, about 4 parked EV school buses catching fire in the States, too!
And they keep on pushing the lies about these nasty EV's.
The Peugeot lasted almost a year.
Not bad for a BEV of french origin.
Almost classic status for an EV; there will be an annual classic BEV show at the NEC starting next year and any EV over six months old will be eligible with prizes for any that still run under their own power
Recurring theme.
So environmentally friendly! 🤦♂️
Every time I hear about electric car batteries suddenly catching fire it scares me, especially as my neighbour parks her electric car (often plugged in) not more than 10ft away from my front window!
You should speak to them and ask if their car insurance covers your property as well.
Ring your house insurance company for advice.
I wouldn't be happy about that
Their insurance should cover damage, but I think I'd be more afraid of being hurt.
Same here. I live in a semi and next doors EV is parked within a few feet of my front bay and it seems to be always on charge . Worries me a lot .
No reporting on the noxious/ toxic fumes or the long tem effects on health the environment and general public safety.
Battery unit management software .. BUMS? 😂
Brilliant 🤩🏆🥇
Sounds apt.
I am undecided about a heat pump. I could convert my lounge into a plant room and the old coal cellar into the lounge. But I am finding it a difficult decision.
You all need to consider where to put the huge ugly tin box with a noisy fan in it which pisses off the neighbours?
Don't do it some friends and neighbours got them in despite my advice, and they hate the things not fit for purpose.
Must have a big TV
Or one of the fools that place it so high up the wall that you have to crick your neck to watch it 😂
The pre-determined attendance for a car fire is actually only 1 pump in most FRS’s …..
Unless it is near buildings. PDA goes up. If it is a fire and near buildings the OIC would make up.
Yes they would…..but that is a make up, decided by the OIC not a PDA
Evs aee clearly not safe and need to be removed from the market
Just like our politicians should be !!
@@Ren-pn4boWEF more so
I think most people with a functioning brain have worked out by now that current technology EV's are a non starter for a plethora of reasons....
Little by little people are learning about those rolling fire pits. It’s happening here in the US too. Just recently an EV ignited in the lot at the Olive Garden restaurant right near my house.

I walk around with a packet of marshmallows in my pocket now. I do love a toasted marshmallow. 🔥🔥🔥
Imagine ferrying your precious cargo about in one of those?
I have a heat pump.
Damn thing just doesn't provide enough heat when the outside temp is around 3c. Keeps running defrost cycles every 15 mins or so; it stops providing heat (for about 4 minutes).
And to top it all, it clicks in the immersion heater element in the new style hot water cylinder just to make hot water. The electric meter just loves us when the immersion is on... (in addition to the heat pump).
Definitely is costing a LOT more per annum than running on oil (which is now the cheapest form of heat -Jan 2025).
A great advert for the car i sure that will help sales 😂😂😂
Ah ...Heat Pumps...the next big purchase con looking forward to the horrendous stories about them ..coming soon.
Don't buy one!
@@malcolmlytton9114 I'm not mate ! I have seen the aftermath ! It's another cash cow scam.
it seems we are going to be forced into buying heat pump tumble dryers soon. which take twice as long to dry stuff and are way more expensive to buy.
@GMteam. And more difficult to repair.
@@GMteam. As far as I know that suggestion has been shelved for now ...people can't afford the initial cost & by all accounts they are as useful as a chocolate fire guard .
No mention of bloke or hubby-single mum three kids. Motability 100%
You do realise that Motability is a charity for disabled people, not something for people to get free stuff?
That was uncalled for right thinking people are grateful the family survived 😮😮
That fire has just caused tens of pounds worth of improvements to that Peugeot.
Very interesting these eve fire’s don’t make the main news.
Was that an E-scooter skeleton in the back, or just an old-fashioned foot pusher? E-scooters are far more likely to self-immolate than cars...
Seen that and wondering if they were charging it up from the car power inside. Lots of cases of scooters going up.
Looks like regular mini-scooter to me, if you look at the handle bars, there are no controls/HUD that you get with an e-scoot.
It is not an electric scooter just a regular foot powered scooter
There is a reason battery-powered cars did not work out 100 years ago
EV’s are purchased by company car drivers as the BIK tax is favourable. Other than that the only other customers are those who can’t think for themselves and do what the government tells them. They will use their EV’s to go and get their 10th Covid jab.
🤣🤣
Lucky the EV wasn't in her garage. This happened on the street, so we need a public report on cause and management of the blaze.
It's good to see the main traction battery survived the intense cabin fire. Thanks for balancing out some of the negative news we hear out there. Keep up the good work!!!
French electric car what could possibly go wrong lol
I love cars been my livelihood for years I would not want my family in any electric cars my pal is a fireman he’s been on two calls with electric car fires which he said was unreal how they burnt these cars are not the future stick to your petroleum or diesel as long as you can
EVangelists will say it is a diesel.
EVangelists.👍🏻🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My car has just reached 16 years of age without bursting into flames and can still get the same range as when it was new. Hooray!
Imagine a collision causing fire from EVs on the motorways, whole country would be paraliased.
its a new feature of Peugeot cars, home heating built in
My mates 2020 Jaguar iPace caught fire outside his house recently. Similar story, not plugged in or charging. Car has been written off. 🤷🏻♂️
That's why Jaguar can't get rid of them and are selling preregistered ones at a huge loss.
Looks like the time they finally put the fire out just happened to coincide with the time when there was nothing at all left to burn. Textbook EV fire.
From New Zealand 🎯💯
We were advised to get one repla
yearly maintenance is a must.
Glad it's working for you
Geoff look up the xerotech battery facility fire in galway yesterday
Stellantis make the best fireworks in the car industry.
Instead of fixing the issue, they will just update the software and limit the miles! Cheaper fix 😮
this has happenned to all our evs as well. very frustrsting. thanks geoff.
Truly terrifying to think of the outcome if this happened when the family were in the car 😞
Not relevant to video (looking for sympathy if I'm being honest), I've just paid £710 to tax my 2008 Boxster for another year 😭😭
@sallycarrera6319 I would love to own a Porsche, any Porsche. However, I could buy one but would be unable to finance the maintenance costs. 😥
@@RobertLacsmp ah sorry, yeah appreciate mine is a first world problem. To be honest I budget each month for servicing and maintenance which doesn't cost as much as you might think using a reputable Porsche specialist but yeah may be out of reach of alot of people. Thank you for reminding me that I am fortunate 🥰 That said my point is the road tax cost on this old car is scandalous 😤
Some years ago I looked at an 11 year old Boxster with 34,000 miles and nine owners. There seemed to be a strong correlation between the car being serviced and getting sold. The services were several hundred pounds each year for a car doing an annual mileage of 2 - 4,000.
The answer here is, only buy petrol and diesel cars as they do not catch fire.
Hello Geoff, hope you and family are well , bloody hell not another ev on fire , thank god that lady and her family are okay
We don't here much about this in the main stream media!

Does anyone see this comment? Cen sorship che ck.
What about the scooter in the rear seats was that electric and was that the cause of the fire?
We have had two lithium battery factories go up in flames in Melbourne Australia. Altona in the Western suburbs, out my way. And a Lithium Iron Battery factory in moorabbin out my mums way in the South Eastern suburbs. Toxic smoke all over. Are we learning yet government minister. 😢
If people are made to have electric motabillity cars and are hurt in a fire can they take the council to court for insisting they use electric cars
Possibly, but I reckon the councils are relying on the occupants ‘ not being around’ to sue.
When I was a lad we would often go for a "burn up " I suppose this is the modern day equivalent ? 😉
Must have been, er, that diesel scooter on back seat!
BBC and ITV should have this on 6pm and 10pm news to warn people. But are probably stopped from doing so.
