Mine broke about 3 years ago, ordered the clips last week and fixed it using your video for guidance. Thank you so much sir, you're a scholar and a gentleman!
Hey, just wanted to Thank you so much for sharing your video.. I had the same problem with my 2008.. I was able to fix it with no issues.. Btw, I got a pack of 2 clips on Ebay and it was only $6.50 for a pack of two… I hope the next person that needs help will see your video and see my post and get there clips on Ebay.. this was so helpful
The problem I had, was the tailgate would not close. It was just rusted and I needed to oil it inside of that plastic cover! So just like everybody else in the comments before me... thank you very much you saved me a ton of time and bs.🙂 area
For those who need a replacement part immediately, the Dorman Help! 75450 kit, which includes 6 various clips, had an exact match for the left-side tailgate rod of my 2010 Silverado (the black clip in the kit). As mentioned in the video, this kit probably won't show compatibility with 2008+ Silverados, but two of the clips will fit. All of the Amazon sellers are showing nearly a month for delivery right now because of the pandemic. Dorman 75450 was on the shelf at O'Reilly for $4.29.
Excellent video. Thank you. Just repaired my 2008 Chev Silverado tailgate latch by watching this. Got the clips on Amazon. 1999-2007 Chev. Silverado clips do fit the 2008!
Thanks! This will be the 2nd time having this issue. The 1st time the handle broke one winter day when trying to open it so i replaced the whole thing. Now, (about 4 years later) it's having trouble closing and the handle feels loose. I ordered a whole new unit to replace it with $40. It may just be the clips lol I haven't got that far. Hope it's just an easy replacement and i don't need to purchase the rods or something else. Thank you for the clear guide again!
Thank You for an Honest video ! Unfortunately.....I found you too late ! Lol ! Somehow after lots of head scratching, and hair pulling, I got mine out, without totally destroying it ! I said totally ! As at least two of the piece's that secure the Bezel to the tailgate, gave it up ! Funny, I don't remember my old 2006 Sierra being this troublesome ? But if I may say.....while you have it opened up, you should lube the Hell outta the pivot bracket mechanism where the rod's attach, as it will, over time corrode and bind up, keeping the rod's from freely moving, and you won't be able to close the tailgate ! Slamming it over and over, will only lead to misaligning the lock pins, attatched to the Bed ! Hope this helps save some steps ! 👍😉 That is what brought me here !
Thanks for the info, saved me time, and made it super easy. I have patched things up with some zip ties, just until the replacement clips arrive in the mail. Thanks again!
" FUNNY THAT AFTER I DID A QUIK FIX , ON MINE I CLICKED ON THIS VIDEO AND YOU ACTUALLY SHOWED HOW TO REMOVE THAT PLACTIC PART , I COULDNT FIGURE OUT. I JUST FIXED IT WITH NEEDLE NOSE PLYERS AND SCREW DRIVER. I BENT THE WIRE A LIL BIT SO IT WOULDN'T FALL OF
Thanks for the great video! You saved me a lot of headache, and it's an easy 5 minute fix! I got replacement parts from Oreilly, its a Dorman product p/n 75450, for just under 5 bucks. 😀
Thanks for making this video. Exactly what I was running in on my '08. The $5 each dealer cost would be worth it if the fix was permanent, like made of brass or something.
I came across your video which explains alot better than others. I took off bezel and right rod and clip ok but left no rod or clip. Handle I believe ok. How do I repair rod when I can't get tailgate unlock? I can't see rod anywhere..
Your video by far is the best one I came across however I have the same issue with my tunnel cover fully deployed and my latch not working the left side rod is not visible I need help getting inside of my tailgate can you tell me what to do. Please🙏🏾
I'm sorry, I don't know. If I'm understanding you correctly though, it sounds like you have to fish the rod out. I'd use a bent coat hanger to try to get it.
Watched the video, ordered from Amazon and did the repair in about 15 minutes. This is the best.

I just used baling wire wrapped around the arm and the rod
Mine already feels "weak" when I pull the latch.
I used Elmer's school glue and it didn't work. The guy who sold me blinker fluid said it would work...oh well.
Thank you for knowing what your doing
Just saved me some headache. Bout to fix mine in about 10 min

What is the clip called
How is that bolt not self explanatory??? The mechanical version of "duh!"
Put the clip in the hole first. What kind of troll would not tell you to remove the bolt first?
I have an 08 but not like that
Thank you so much!
Thank you so much!!!
