- For those who never saw this show on PBS, you definitely missed one of the more wholesome shows that even adults would enjoy. Theodore is one of Canada's treasures & the nautical version of Thomas & Friends (I think).

Fantastic review of Theodore Tugboat! This show is truly one of my absolute favorites! The production crew who handled filming the Theodore Tugboat episodes was truly a creative and innovative force! As I currently dedicated part of my free time to re-enacting the entire Theodore Tugboat series, I now can tell what it was like to film these episodes. Theodore Tugboat is truly a show that connects with its audience, and the series contains a wide array of colorful characters that can be related to both a younger and adult audience, and the stories that these characters navigate themselves through teach us valuable lessons that can and will impact us in life. No Theodore Tugboat isn’t the perfect show, nor is it the best show; Theodore Tugboat is nonetheless a touching and gentle show that depicts the characters as being flawed, and learning to overcome their flaws themselves or with the help of their friends.

This is my second most favorite children's show of all time (with Thomas being first). The reason why I love this show so much is because it has a lot of elements that remind me of the classic Thomas episodes including the animation style and personalities of the characters (including Theodore himself). In fact, back in summer of 2010, I went to Halifax, Nova Scotia on vacation with my mom and aunt. We rode on Theodore Too, which was a lot of fun, and we got to see the Theodore Tugboat models in person at the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. When I first saw them in person, I didn't realize how big the models and sets were. Man, if only we can get the complete series on DVD and possibly Blu-Ray. Also, this classic show, in my opinion, deserves a CGI reboot! But I'm afraid those things aren't going to happen anytime soon. Excellent review btw!
The show is definitely a lost gem and it's unfortunate that Theodore Too is no longer taking rides. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Alsome review! Growing up with aspergers autism was rough but Theodore Tugboat has helped me over the years. I've noticed now that being almost near 30 now, I still love Theodore Tugboat and it happens to be a great teaching tool for adults too. Gives me ideas on how to be a parent, although I probably wouldn't be one unfortunately but anyway. I wish Theodore Tugboat would come back❤✌😊

I watched this show back in the day. Amazing how well it holds up. The fact that it uses physical props makes it even more special.
This show has been on my mind for quite some time now. I just could not remember the name. Growing up in Detroit, I would watch it on Canada's Kids TVO station or CBC. Thank you for this!

Hello, Nitpick Critic. I'm glad to see the continuation of your videos. To say I was anxious about when you'd be able to pick things back up would be an understatement. I'm really looking forward to seeing your video on Thomas & the Magic Railroad, and your Season 6 commentaries. Also, I was watching through your season 5 commentaries, and I couldn't find the "Thomas, Percy, & Old Slow Coach" video. I don't mean to sound nosy for pointing that out, I was just curious, because I like each of the commentaries you make on Thomas. It's been my favorite show since I was little. I've heard a little bit about Theodore Tugboat, but I never really watched the actual show, until I saw this video. And you're right, it does have a few similarities to Thomas.
Hey there, no need to be anxious. I was taking a break,...the commentaries took a lot of my time. I appreciate your enthusiasm for what's to come. However we will have to see how it works as you already pointed out the copyright claims on some of my videos. Unfortunately I cannot do anything about because I do not have the time, money or patience to deal with YT and their bullcrap. It's sad but if the video is blocked,...then that's that. You're very welcome. I didn't wanna sound like I didn't even watch the video. I especially liked the part where you talked about the character Blue Nose. The whole message that you stated in covering her that old-fashioned can still be good at times is something I feel applies to numerous situations. It also reminded me of the Thomas & Friends episode "Coal". Because as with Blue Nose, the same was true for Henry. Because as stated in that episode, there were times when he had the strength to pull trains. All he required to improve was a new load of special coal, and later a shape change. The more I analyze this video, the more I see a resemblance to Thomas. In the words of Harold, "Cheers, and keep up the good work".

watching u thank you very much, I appreciate it! You can easily find 99% of the episodes right on UA-cam! Only some of them are in iffy quality. If you want them in like a remastered form I dont think they exist.
I never watched theodore tugboat I was born in 2000s and I was more of a thomas fan but now I just wanna watch it!
Id say it's 50/50,...most T&F fans either like Theodore or prefer Tugs. But im glad you're interested. It is a decent show.

There's a lot to this show that I'm just gonna show my kids as "haha boats I watched as a kid" someday.
This was a great series retrospective. I admit, I’d much rather prefer this show to TUGS.
(Also, I can’t wait until you either get T&F season 6 or TATMR.)

Nitpick Critic Cool. I’d also like to point out Northumberland was avoiding Pugwash in that episode, because he was scared she was gonna bump him, like she used to.
TATMR is my favorite Thomas film if you ask me. You should review that.

I have to say though, interesting review, i do feel like a lot of the content was a tad stretched out, it was honestly a great overview of the series, I’d love to see an in-depth look at Tugs or the model version of Jay Jay from you in future

with pearl and petra, i did manage to discern some personality differences. Pearl is more strict than petra, and speaks more firmly. Petra is slightly more lax and outgoing.

@@NitpickCritic sorry just mentioning Bananas in PJs gave me flashbacks. Annoyingly most of the Aussie kids shows I’ve seen were almost like horror shows with dark endings & super uncomfortable situations. Good thing Thomas & Friends kept me smiling.

I really truly wish this show got just as much attention (if not more attention) than Thomas because this was such a great show back then!! Although like both Thomas and Jay Jay, I hope this show gets a reboot some day (although also like both Thomas and Jay Jay, it might sadly be CGI animated). Also yes, I do hopefully plan on seeing Theodore at the museum in Nova Scotia some day but not sure when though but it also works out because I live in Iowa now and I used to live in Arizona (hence I am from there) and I can travel to Nova Scotia anytime I want to.

Yes, I know there aren't as many episodes as Thomas, but they're still very entertaining and fun to watch so I'd still like to see what your perspective is on each individual episode man (as well as Jay Jay the Jet Plane like the pilot model series from the 90s, and the CGI live action series from the early - mid 2000s).

I know who Taylor Z is I just thought you would do the same since A) You're also a fan of the show much like me and Taylor Z are, and B) It's nice to see more people here on the Internet support Theodore Tugboat and Jay Jay more instead of just Thomas (other than both you and Taylor Z that is). Also, I thought Taylor Z was a he because of their voice, and also I've known 2 Taylors in my life who were guys and the rest were girls of course.

@@NitpickCritic Fair enough. I just thought it'd be adorable since much like Theodore, Micheal J. Fox sorta has a youthful young adult sound to him, that I thought would be perfect for the character. People know him as Marty McFly, but I personally knew him best as Stuart Little.

Ah 1993! Movies like Nightmare Before Christmas, The Sandlot, Hocus Pocus and Jurassic Park became hits, and popular tv shows like Beavis and Butthead, Animaniacs, Rocko’s Modern Life, Bill Nye The Science Guy, Walker Texas Ranger, Frasier and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers came out. And among those popular tv shows at that time was this little show from Canada called Theodore Tugboat.
The show had delighted children for about 8 to 10 years across Canada and the United States. It became Cardona’s more successful show after he worked on ill-fated TUGS series with David Mitton back in the late 80’s.
I've recently started watching this show, and you can tell the production crew had fun making the show!
I completely forgot about this show lol So many memories of watching when sick at home from school....
Oh MAN I have a story.
So when I saw this one oil leak from that one ship, I saw it as blood. It creeped me out, BAD. I mean actual nightmares.
Especially when 3-4 years old. So I asked my mom at that age to not show this show to me lol
Well that was a fun Review about Theodore Tugboat talking about all the ships, Boats the episodes , Buildings and Road Structures it was really interesting I liked it And how you Discribed every Character in the show I ages these Characters have unique personalities how thay interact with each other, that kind of Thing I watched Theodore Tugboat on UA-cam So I'm fimiler with it I somehow found it I didn't know about it until last year like I said i watched it on UA-cam 🙂 Thank you Nitpick for the review it was very entertaining 👍👍

I’m confused with your writing, you literally say that the stories are told by the harbour masters memory yet you then say that the series lacks continuity... if he’s telling from memory there is no continuity.
GioTV1 I could see how that may be confusing. Here's why it doesnt make sense (to me). If the HM is telling it from memory, would you expect to be told the story in chronological order? Why jump around? And if jumping around is going to be done, then dont bother telling the rest of the stories in order. Be random or be organized,...one or the other.

Oh my god I remember this brief show when I was 3 in 1999. I wonder where it went after 2002. I remembered a show about a tugboat but PBS took it off.
Also Theodore is greater than Tugs!
I myself wish I could make a live action model railroad series but sadly all that has been lost to CGI.

The late Denny Doherty WAS Canadian. He was born in Halifax. In fact, the "studio" they used for The Big Harbour was the gym in the now-closed high school gym Denny used to go to.

Probably the little schooner she was based on in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. She was a sailing ship during the 30’s. She’d also became a symbol in Canada’s history. In fact, she appeared on the Canadian ten cent dime.

Ships powered by Oil are steam-driven. The steam is produced by burning oil. Most actual Steam Locomotives are actually oil-burning. Examples of oil-burning steamships and locomotives are most ships in world war II and Locomotives like the Union Pacific Big Boy and Challenger. So the plot hole issue is nonexistent.
