thanks Neil at Italia Autos. - Авто та транспорт
Hi Neil, I've got a 20VT 1998 and had it from new! Thought it was in good condition rust wise until I lifted the boot carpet and found rust holes along the chassis legs/floor pan. Also worth removing rear seats and rear wheel arch liners and get ready with your angle grinder! Spent ages cutting and welding but now it's all solid. Never gonna sell it! 😁 Interested in this video. 👍
Excited for this series!!
One of my all time favourite cars - in (I think) the best colour. Drove one once - what a beast!
Couldn't agree more!
I loved this car, followed it's release and intended to buy one new. However, practicality overrode desire and I bought a Marea 5 cylinder. Families! The Coupe thumbnail brought me to your channel and I have subscribed. I will now dig out the rest of your vids on this project. You've done a red one too! That tyre that you showed in closeup was dated 2008. No wonder it was in that state and the idea of 12 year old tyres on a performance car gives me the willies!
I always try and cast my mind back to my Fiat /Alfa sales days , I remember the Turbo plus and Limited Edition versions , I think what you have there is the last of the run out models . To be fair though I sold a lot more Puntos than Coupes in Stoke on Trent 😂😂😂
matt bettany yup, sprint blue plus....different wheels, front grill, recaros inside etc.....way better car.... I’ve still got one and an LE lol....😂....well spotted!
Looking forward to this one Neil - these are great cars and as you say, definitely worth saving
It really is!
This makes me feel better about mine that I bought at the end of last year for just £300, it’s an early one being August 1995, and is a blue 16 valve turbo that has obviously been lying for years, it’s the biggest project I’ve taken on tbh, I’ve been slowing going through it and my current nightmare is the rear ns suspension arm pivot bolt which will not budge, hopefully you will tackle that, I need a rad too haha! Love the videos and content, this has helped me lots with my 2.0 ts gtv, all the best 👍
Best colour option, that blue is fantastic.
Looking forward to this!
me too
Tremendous looking forward to seeing this happening
Part 2 at 3pm today.
Looking forward as always 👌
Glad to hear it!
Nice vid...parts eBay or Facebook sites or fccuk or few great specialists we use....incl rads etc.... Cloth recaros on the plus models were optioned....it’ll be a lovely plus once done and worth the restoration! Good luck! Quaif diff good idea too....oh and I’ve got a few coupe mules as well needed lol....fuel straps are available btw, lots parts from Poland etc! 😆. Oh best brand tyres Yokohama ad08’s 225’s transform the car!
Looking forward to this 😊
Great!
Wow I envy you...thats a beast 5 cylinser turbo, love the sound and the looks.
Thanks!
When I couldn't find a radiator for a decent price (Alfa 156) I contacted Aaron Radiators in Whitehorse Lane in London. Got one for half the price everyone else was charging.
Proper old school place. The make/repair radiators for classic cars etc. Give them a try.
I can empathise entirely if sourcing for an almost black sheep 156 which is a forgotten car. Trying to restore a 916 GTV and the hassle for petty little parts without paying Bentley money new is horrendous. It’s souring the whole thing already. Secondhand breakers are as bad as Alfa main dealers for me. You can’t give high mileage Alfa’s away yet as soon as it’s collected for a breaker they all of a sudden quote Lamborghini money for spares. Absolutely ridiculous
hopefully going after market.
Italia Autos Direnza in UK do aftermarket radiators for 20VT around £120+vat
Got one sitting next to the car now.
Can't wait to see how this all goes. Always loved the 20v turbo and wished my Mrs would let me have one. We had a 20v Marea instead and I always loved the way it sounded, but what I never loved was Fiat's crap service department and parts issues. Our car was 3 years old at the time and I can't remember what was actually wrong with it but I remember it was serious because Fiat said it was an engine out job, I wasn't that concerned as it was under warranty. Just to let you know the main Fiat spares distribution centre for the UK was 1 mile from this Fiat garage so I thought it would get fixed pretty pronto. Got it booked in left my car with them, after 2 weeks I went to the garage to see the progress and the car hadn't moved from the spot I parked it in prior. Let's just say I kicked off, I got my keys and went straight across the road to a Ford garage and px it for a Focus. Good luck in getting parts for the coupé.
oh dear not good.
Nice project!
Thank you! Cheers!
Glorious Car!
Nice project man! Good luck!!
Wish I could be there and help restore it.
Thanks!
Love the 20vt!
It needs a lot of work, but it's a beautiful example!
Would love to hear some 5 cylinder sound, once you have finished!
Nice project
Will do!
Would love to see more of this car!
more next week
Best colour for the Coupé
Own a fiat coupe 20vt, fantastic car with amazing performance! Even today they look so unique and far better looking than most other sports cars. Great video, the rust under the bonnet is very much like my coupe. I also have a slight oil leak but not too sure where it's coming from, the oil cooler was changed after a leak but if anyone can shed a light on the second leak or had similar issue I'd love to hear?
As a Fiat Coupe owner I will be glued to watching this series of videos , even more than I normally am watching Italia Autos. Coupes have galvanised bodies so can often look good on the body but hide horrors underneath. Was this car stored under a car cover of some sort and over the years sweated and hence deteriorated ? It’s last mot was in 2012 I think.David Foster.
thanks
Hey mate! Good luck with the restoration! I'm curently doing the same with a 16vt. Better check the body also after removing the interior, there are some bad spots on the rear sides.
Thanks, will do!
Will be fun to watch since I still have my yellow 20v turbo after 15 years near perfect condition (will go up for sale in a couple of weeks tho (in Sweden)).
I don’t know what year model this is but the last cars they built, ‘00s, they kind of took what they had on the shelf’s I’ve been told. Not much logic to the interior trims 😂 LE/plus starter buttons, cloth seats pimped with turbo logos etc.
beauty!
thanks
That looks very restorable...I'll just away now and invest in torch gas and penetrating oil shares 😂
As a coupe 20v turbo owner, I look forward to see how this goes. Mines earlier 1998 model with leather interior and no starter button so was surprised to see the cloth interior and starter button. Maybe biased but this shouldn't be scrapped at all.
awesome
I'm sure you've seen and repaired worse Neil? That doesn't look a bad job for you to do, I'm sure it will be done and look fantastic also to a high standard as always, just pending cost and customer wishes. Good luck with it bud.
Thanks 👍
"Part 1 of many" made me laugh - it took me 4 years to fully restore my 20VT Plus, also a V reg, lots of rot underneath and months of bodyshop hell that resulted in having it resprayed twice 🙄 Yours is a 20VT6, late model with some parts from a Plus (wheels, clocks, push button start, etc) and the unique cloth interior.
yes lots to do on this one.
it's a shame we didn't get these in australia
did you get puntos
Thank the lord the underside is pretty solid as there is already some hefty ££££ needs putting into that coop by my rough car man maths just with a rad, alternator, cam belt and service alone. If you can access FIAT Eper its very handy in searches for parts once you know the OE part numbers.....
yeah lots to do.
What are these 20v engines like..are they reliable?...im thinking mybe one day to get one and have it like weekend car...156 20v is daily and will be for a while 🤭😁😁...great video as always..keep it up 💚🤍❤️
Don't forget replacing rear engine coolant hose (aka the hose of death) with a silicone one
its going to get looked at
14:47 ten seconds after the last time i said "yes" i got it on the back of my head.
Christ the turbo version was a quick car...
it was.
can you tell me how to change the differential seal on the left side ? On the right i just popped off the black thing where the drive shaft goes. Thanks
Hi, great vid. I'm breaking a blue 20Vt 1998 in Ireland and have plenty of parts, plus my 'shell' ain't bad.could do a list of what you need and what I have.
Slam panel and fans at the moment mate
Customer watches this Video... Neils phones rings... “Might as well break it mate, can’t afford the work...”
Always thought the later ones were all plus models and they just put all the extras on. 6 speed! Side skirts, red engine cover. Recaros even.
You need to take the trim out from the side of the rear bench - that rust is coming from the pinifarina badge leaking and water sitting inside. I fear you’re in for a shock there how rusty it will be
yeah that will get done.
yep i had to scrap a 20v turbo due to rot from that very issue.
Nice one Neil, any chance of you doing an Alfa 156 buyers guide?
One day.
hi Neil
thats a very late Vt6 with a rare optional cloth interior with the "turbo" embroidery
the tank straps can be sourced from Joe at FCSS in stainless steel
those rear badges are an absolute pain to source as they re a specific size for the coupe
thanks
The last 20VT Valeo radiators were bought my my friend.
I think you may be able to get a stainless after market one, but not a Nissens/Valeo
Let me know.
Italia Autos direnza on eBay mate. They list them in full alloy.
Btw, once you messed about with those sills, I’d fill all of those areas with cans of Bilt Hamber Dynax S50 cavity wax; it’s the best I’ve ever used
è da pressare!
And also a gearstick gaiter
yep
You could pick up the coupes 4 years ago for buttons but now people are getting greedy and overpriceing them when you add up the cost of the potential rot repair and unobtainium parts. They are best left to lads who have the skills and equipment to sort them out unless you have very deep pockets.
Love the 5 pot engine and I fear I missed the boat on these. I'll have to stick to my cinquecentos which are still reasonably priced and fun to drive
the days of cheap coupes are gone i think
Astounding to see, how many Fiats and Alfas were based on the same Tipo floorpan. The underside of this coupe looks exactly as a GTV, apart from the rear axle.
Come to think of it; don't you think a GTV airco radiator could fit this one?
yeah lots
You could probably build a 2.0 20V Turbo Multipla....
Rear right shock (bump stop?) Sitting at the bottom of the spring 🤔
yep its a common problem. all coming out.
Hi we couldn't find a servo booster for fiat coupe turbo' 98 20V 220hp , can you help us?
Don't know of any sorry.
Surely this needs shocks spring and brakes all round whats the point of restoring it without doing these ?
it comes down to budget so ive given the customer the option. but hes having them all changed.
Agreed the underside needs some damn good going over, no point in it looking beautiful up top but UNSAFE to drive due RUST! Front and rear suspension are quite bad!!
Hi do you have any stilo sunroof parts laying around by any chance?
Nope
O.k, keep up the good works!
Was that in storage? Look out for mice.
7 years
If you need help with refurbishing the headlights, contact me
Cheers

I also need help refurbishing some, can you help? kjekyll@xtra.co.nz
Is necesary get out the engine for change the timing belt? Thanks
No can release engine mount and Jack the engine up release cam belt
all engine mount bolts taken out then you can move engine over 1 inch.
@@ItaliaAutos I've had £1000 quotes in the past for my cambelt tried to tell me engine needs to come out it's a pain in the arse but doable with engine in place
@@lukecowell7516 you will see in the next video this weekend.
@@ItaliaAutos miss my old LE few mod xs turbo etc 320hp 5 banger power house sold mine when they wasnt worth more than £1500
Oh I'm sure you can re-core that rad nooooooo problem.
performance rad going on hopefully
@@ItaliaAutos Excellent stuff
After having an LE the base model just looks so underwhelming
Get a Diranza ALU rad.
priced one up for the customer
Fiat discontinued this model to soon
He has to get engine out and both subframes off.....you can then rebuild
hoping engine can stay in. but rear has to come off.
220 Hp, 250 km/h.
yep
è stata la Fiat più veloce che sia mai stata costruita.
Front slam panels are ££££ and hard to get now
ive not looked yet.
Tell the customer whatever budget he has to times it by 4, to do it right the engine needs to come out and going through completely. All interior out and glass out then dipping, all running gear replacing too. If none of this is done it's just going to be a big bodge job, I have seen you tubers do all this to stuff like skylines so don't try tell me it can't be done, if something is worth doing it's worth doing right,,,,,,,,,,, good luck with telling the customer all that 😁
Comes down to customers budget and values of cars. Doubt anyone has £30k to put onto a fiat coupe. A light resto will keep.this on the road for many years to come.
@@ItaliaAutos it will be interesting to see how much you can salvage on this, your company name is on the line though for all to see on here
@@cm-oo1td nothing to hide here. I'm all about saving cars to use as dailies not garage show cars.
That was a 2020 !! Very rusty 😢
"a little bit rust here"
Just a tad. Ive fixed worse.
Please please please, it's pronounced coopay!
^^This. Winds me up no end. Chickens live in a coop. They wouldn't want to live in this shed though.
I have no idea who this customer is but I can see this project ending pretty quickly when the Bill's start coming in. All of that 'surface rust' will be worse on the inside. If you don't treat that, it isn't a restoration. It'll be back in three years if not done properly.
Hello. I've got a Fiat Coupe 2.0 16V and want to repair it by myself. Can you give me some advise? Maybe via WhatsApp i.e.?
If your looking for free advice may I recommend the fiat coupe forum and Facebook pages.
Wow, a terrible state of the poor unloved car. I miss mine a lot.
It`s so rusty...
Not that bad for a UK car that's been sat for years.
@@ItaliaAutos Wow. For UK car... I see.
