Do you think you could upload & share your custom modeled part? I also have the grey Creality extruder that has the different shape to it and have this same kit on the way (should be here any day now) and will end up having to model my own also, it would be great if you could upload it to Thingiverse! If not, it’s not a big deal, but would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)
i had the same issue with the extruder spacer.... Other than that. Mine was pretty decent. Although i feel like they just grabbed whatever screws they had laying around and tossed them in the bag. luckily as a car guy, i keep all kinds of nuts and bolts handy. still kinda silly since this is sold as a kit....
Franz503 Totally agree and understand. I get it, it’s not that expensive but still... I watched some review videos on Teaching Tech and decided to make the purchase, I just didn’t expect to run into these issues
Not making excuses for anyone but it does not matter if there are 6 wires on that extension. Your stepper only uses 4 wires and has a 6 pin connector. Just remove the 2 wires from your extension plugs takes 3 minutes and your in business. It is still a 6 pin connector which fits like a glove. Not a problem. 3D printing is a tinkerers toy store. If you want to play you gotta to tinker.
Jim Nicholson the connectors are completely different shapes and sizes. One is wide and flat, the other is taller and narrower. They do not fit together at all, the housings are not compatible no matter what pins are removed. And it’s certainly not as advertised or the same ones used in their own instructions. I’m fine with tinkering, I’ve been 3D printing for 5 years and I have 6 different printers so I’m used to making things work. But I feel that Printermods makes an inferior direct drive kit compared to its competitors.
@@pandapropsncostumes I must have received different cable then. Mine was exact same connector just had 6 wires. I hear you about making things work. I have 16 printers Delta's, Cartesian and been in the play room for 6 years. I beta tested for a couple printer manufacturers. I do agree with you there is no reason for a company not answering you when you have an issue. When I got my kits from them the included plastic parts and brackets were real bad. Unusable bad. They were injected molded but looked like some real bad stuff. I contacted them and they sent me replacements in a couple weeks. When did you get your kit? I got mine when they first came out. I just looked at my instructions and it shows the 6 pin connector with the 6 wires. They must have made changes. What kit would you recommend? I will be buying a few more and would like your feedback on which you like better. Thanks
Jim Nicholson my plastic parts were bad too. I had to drill out the slots and holes to make them work. I bought two of these kits (both have incorrect plugs despite me choosing specific models) because they were positively reviewed on Teaching Techs channel. But either the quality control or eye for detail is way off. If budget isn’t a huge concern I’d switch to E3D Hemera extruder or Bondtech BMG. If you want to go cheaper a Triangle labs extruder would be good. A better all in one solution in my opinion would be the Microswiss direct drive and hot end combo
@@jimnicholson8128 it's just a strange coincidence I can't believe it but I ordered the triangle lab combo about four or five months ago. I ordered two of them and they were a complete kit they weren't machine specific they said that they will fit a number different machines and creality are on the list. I'm sure I'll have to print a number of parts to make them work but they come with the BMG style extruder and their new micro Swiss style hot end and it looks like it's really high quality. It's so strange they just came yesterday. and we have been talking about different kits. I'll let you know how they work out. I'm not sure which machine I'm going to put them on yet probably on my Ender 5 plus. I have two of those and I think I'll try these on them and see how they work out. I wasn't aware that micro Swiss made a combo. I might check those out too because I still will need another 4 after I get these other two complete. I appreciate your suggestions.
No, both my Creality machines have couplers on the extruders. Some models do not have the coupler and have a pressure fit hole on the extruder side. Good quality couplers have metal teeth inside to lock the PTFE Bowden tube in place
And here it is the end of November and I am having the same EXACT issues!! Please show what you did with the cabling. PrinterMods needs to get their QA and Engineering depts squared away.
Hi. Mine is on the way. Is this compatible with the stock hot end? Is yours in the video a stock hot end? I noticed alot of people use all metal ends with these direct drives. Not sure if there is any benefit for all metal except for higher temps.
@@pandapropsncostumes thanks.yeah I think I will go back to the stock. I just put in an all micro swiss all metal but too many issues with layers and jamming even with low retraction. There is something I am doing wrong but i print with pla anyways for now.
@@pandapropsncostumes Hey. I got this direct mod kit in. I have the same grey extruder as yours but I can't open the link to your thingiverse. Edit: nevermind, it looks like the site is down at the moment. Will try again later.
youth03 I’m using Prusaslicer for my Creality machines. On the Ender 3 Pro I am doing: retraction 2mm length, retraction 50mms, min travel after retraction 2mm
I have an issue with the bracket as it won't fit correctly I have a wobble on it no matter how I tightened it. So think I have to return. I was also really excited but now waster a good 4 or so hours doing research and fiddling with it. :(
I used a hero me cooling fan mod from Thingiverse and I cut the wire holder off the top to make room for the extrude rmotor www.thingiverse.com/thing:3991855

Scott Nickerson Yes totally, just hadn’t gotten to it yet. Stay tuned!
Here it is Scott! The picture is not showing up but that's Thingiverse' fault :)
