I personally love long videos... but I don't technically watch them. I listen... while doing the dishes, while driving to/from work, while eating lunch, while gardening or taking care of my chickens, while cleaning the house... etc. long videos and audiobooks are my go to as I'm doing tasks that make me physically busy, but do not take as much brain power.
Yeah 100% Short videos are annoying because you need to keep finishing new videos every few minutes (unless it’s very specific like a tutorial) It sucks when the person is just rambling about nonsense for 45 minutes though haha
So true! Long-form content like audiobooks are excellent for fully diving into a subject matter. I'd much rather immerse myself in a longer video than surface-level short clips anyday

I am new to the UA-cam word, and only average 20 ish views per video, however I am loving the journey and creative process! And very grateful for my 20 fans!
UA-cam isn't "pushing long videos" and lots of people have done videos about this misconception. With cable dying and more people watching UA-cam than ever, some of society's old watch habits have been transferring over, meaning more and more people are falling asleep at night watching UA-cam with autoplay on, and the algo has been noticing the pattern and giving those users longer stuff to "watch" in those hours because that's what it thinks they want.
There are several long videos that I choose specifically for that purpose. It's to cover up noises that wake me up. I used to listen to books, but I'd wake up at random times and get caught up in the story, which defeated the purpose 😂 The ones I've been listening to just sorta repeat phrases randomly so there's nothing to get caught up in.

Ask for submissions, roast their first 10 seconds and then tell them what the first line should be. Just like your live session awhile back, there's NOTHING better than using real life use cases.... I discovered this in the last 3 months. I made a 55-minute Cruise Ship Over Capacity video only because that was how much content I had to put in it. And, at first people watched only part of it, but they must have saved it to watch later. And, it is my best performing video.
Hi Ed! I've got a tutorial I published on YT in segments. There were about 6 parts (each about 10 or less min. long) to this sewing pattern for a skirt, & had it as a series playlist. I've been really tempted to put it all together as one long video. But I've been scared that if I did, YT wouldn't like that as it might duplicate content. Is there any way I could do this as a long video and not have a duplicated copy problem? Would I have to refilm all the parts? BTW, glad you had the funny parts - loved the dancing segments!

Pretty much what I was going to ask as well. I’ve got multiple guitar courses. I was considering chopping each of them up and giving portions away on UA-cam. Film a specific intro and some linking bits to hopefully keep it fresh and even more engaging. They should also link nicely to my offer. I mean, if I'm going to make an hour or longer video filled with incredible insights I'm charging for that and selling it as a workshop or a live training. I think that would be more lucrative than just getting "watch time." Most people don't value free stuff and won't even watch it through... But maybe that's just me... as a business owner who uses UA-cam to market my business vs being a "UA-camr."

If anything, videos need to get shorter and more to the point. Most long videos you have to listen on 1.5x speed and you realise it's a 10 minute video stretched over 30 minutes or more.

He is forgetting why those long videos are successful, is the content, the end. Same for short and medium, long ones are being pushed by youtube because the ads and people falling sleep with them
I don't think the length was what made them appealing. It's the content . Many of those content makers probably got views from other platforms . I personally watched four of your examples after seeing them on IG

You say that long form videos va help, and they do especially for historical videos. But doesn’t it also depend on genre and length? Doesn’t it also depend on the topic? One youtuber told me that you should upload at a regular consistent timing so the AI recognises you. If you upload a 10 minute video the first day and then a 1 hour the next, UA-cam won’t push it. It either has to be consistent or it isn’t. What do you think of this?

He is forgetting why those long videos are successful, is the content, the end. Same for short and medium, long ones are being pushed by youtube because the ads and people falling sleep with them

I don't think the length was what made them appealing. It's the content . Many of those content makers probably got views from other platforms . I personally watched four of your examples after seeing them on IG

I’m not sure if this would work for nano (less than 1,000 subscribers channel) I feel it takes some “authority” to blow up with a so-long video.
Many channels have blown up with only one video doing this. You don't need to be a big channel for this.
You say that long form videos va help, and they do especially for historical videos. But doesn’t it also depend on genre and length? Doesn’t it also depend on the topic? One youtuber told me that you should upload at a regular consistent timing so the AI recognises you. If you upload a 10 minute video the first day and then a 1 hour the next, UA-cam won’t push it. It either has to be consistent or it isn’t. What do you think of this?
