Lovely! One could think this is just a few blobs, but there is so much to look at. The buildings. The fence. The white strip in the middle is a road. Brilliant work. Can't wait to try one.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching how the painting evolved in this video and how simple and understated techniques, can create a very pleasant piece of artwork with mood and presence.
A painting of great effect, I find the color combination truly formidable. And the fading effect of the houses in the background, with the dark trunks in front, gives it a very interesting movement. Enchanting!
Amazing mixture of colour with great depth in your painting, thanks for sharing your skills in watercolours as it's what I've been practicing with watercolor and not been painting long.
I just discovered your channel and feel so happy--watercolor is the medium for visualizing the colors of the soul! Love your technique of the pigmented brush and the wet brush for softening!
I stumbled across this video in my recommended list and im so glad i did. I have been looking for some more techniques useful to my style, thank you Lois x
Just love this! That big calligraphy brush is like one of mine that I haven't worked out how to use in practice, yet you make it seem so natural. Will have to give it another try.
I really enjoyed this one Lois! I saw the watercolor this afternoon and was sure you made the houses first! But it is the other way around! with a great result!
Thanks so much Edo, I painted the trees first to see how big they grew with the wet in wet, then added the buildings last to fit them exactly to the position of the trees! I miss the cat too, I knew it needed something but what to add? Then this afternoon I thought of a cat 😊🤣😻
A very bold expressive style. I like it. I could use some of that looseness, I am ridiculously controlling when drawing/painting, and started a watercolor quest to try and change that. I found a calligraphy brush gathering dust in a drawer, and really love how it handles. That paper you use seems to handle all that water very nicely, a 100% cotton? Edit;okay, I went and actually read the text under your vid, and there you list all the materials, thanks😉
I saw your channel first time last night. This painting is so skillfully done, looks exactly like an Ortega. I really wanna have a go; please can you tell me how wet the sky is before you add the skyline? I want to get some nice blooms for the trees, but not sure how wet the background should be, and how thick/thin the tree paints should be.
Hi I'm afraid it is trial and error, best to experiment, it will be different for every painter depending on how warm their studio area is, which paper they use etc. Generally, make blooms etc when wet, add skyline when damp or dry
My highest praise when I say you remind me so much of Bob Ross--similar approaches with large undefined background shapes, & a "dab in and out, hither & to" create proper shapes on layer two. I know we both get excited with granulation! I'm curious if a granulation medium might aid using Cotman paints? Thank you for sharing, Lois! Fanna Turano Denver, CO
Thanks Frances, high praise indeed :-) I've never tried a granulation medium before, so I'm afraid I don't know. Maybe one day I'll do some experimentation!
I’m wondering where you got the big calligraphy brush. So far I’ve checked on Amazon and Ali express. Unsure about ordering what I’ve seen so far. I liked the way your brush picked up the paint and allowed you to lay the paint down. Just a lovely painting. Love the effects you achieved. Thanks
@@LoisDavidsonArt Thanks I hadn’t thought of eBay. I liked the way you were able to pick up so much paint with it. I’ll take a look. Love your videos. I always learn something. But it is never as sassy as it looks. Practice, practice.
Hi, yes, you can do that, probably easier but I’m a bit unconventional in my approach and I wasn’t sure how big my trees would end up as the wet in wet process can be a bit unpredictable! I preferred to let the trees grow and diffuse on the page first and then place the buildings!
Such a beautiful urban city. ❤❤
Once again - loving your beautiful creations wishing your imagination was contagious.
I always watch your beautiful differents styles works on my TV, now on my tablet I can send you this words of admiration and gratitude😊🤗👏
Lovely! One could think this is just a few blobs, but there is so much to look at. The buildings. The fence. The white strip in the middle is a road. Brilliant work. Can't wait to try one.
Thanks so much!
I agree w/ other comments, the houses look like they were done before the trees. Very well executed.
Very nice. I like the buildings effect
C'est tellement beau, félicitations à l'artiste. ❤
That was clever! So beautiful. The colors muted. Fabulous

Thank you for the interesting demo, very nice!
Oh, painting buildings scares me, but I think I'm going to give this one a try. Thank you for the inspiration!
Gorgeous!
Yes, I like the way this turned out. I'm going to try something like this. I love the colours, too! :)
Thanks Margaret, there’s something wonderful about the combination of the light earth colours and indigo!

Greetings from Chicago. I'm going to try something similar. Thank you!
Hi, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Love this!
Thank you Louis. Hope I can do this justice in my attempt....
Você é maravilhosa. Sua didatica e espontaneidade são o vinculo que promove nosso artista interior. Sempre é enriquecedor acompanhar suas praticas.

I love this one, Lois. I'm going to have to loosen up again...
You've got your own wonderful style Keith!

Stunning shows me to not be such a control freak when painting :)

I did this! Too bad I cannot send my version here. I was quite happy to result.
Thank you for this. I do wonder why you put the houses in after the trees? OOps, I did find this question addressed earlier. I love your style.
Thanks so much! I think sometimes it is better to work unconventionally to achieve the best effects, wet it wet can be difficult to predict!

I would like to see this with mountains instead of buildings?
Could we have painted the building outlines before the trees?
Hi, yes, you can do that, probably easier but I’m a bit unconventional in my approach and I wasn’t sure how big my trees would end up as the wet in wet process can be a bit unpredictable! I preferred to let the trees grow and diffuse on the page first and then place the buildings!
I really like this. What make hake brush do you use? I'm not happy with mine - never seems to pick up the paint or stay in it. Thanks
I mostly use Pro Arte Ron Ranson hakes, and recommend them!
I would like to know what watercolour paper you use with your wet on wet technics? Any recommendations?
I use Saunders Waterford cold pressed NOT paper and hot press, and Millford cold pressed paper, I prefer cotton paper
Does the material of the hake brush has to be soft or rough?
the brush is made from goat hair and is soft
