As a general bowgun vet I have to say that while using a heavy bowgun if you are not confident in your ability to dodge attacks use the shield. It will greatly reduce the damage you take from attacks at the cost of some stamina loss per block but it is worth it to be able to deal with some of the faster monsters. I also recommend keeping flash bombs handy at all times because you never know when you need to create an opening to heal or lay down the hurt.
After trying mhw i wanted to take on mh4u, im going out for the holidays so i have a 3ds ready for me ive been doing well but i thank you for making this videos they helped alot, also ur mhw vids help thankss
Totally agree ranged weapons take a lot of getting used to. For me though, it was completely worth it. In MH3U I cut most of my hunt times in half with a HBG compared to GS, breaking parts is far easier, and in team play it truly shines.
Kulrig Alestout This. Using a Dahren Mohran HBG right now, forgot the name, Peerless or something? It can rapid fire Pierce Lv2 shots, it absolutely wrecks monsters. and breaks all kinds of parts off when i siege fire it in multiplayer.
I think the gunner class is really hard to use in solo and is more useful in online because your friends would be taking most of the monsters aggro while in solo the only other things taking the aggro is your palicoes
I've always wondered how to bowguns actually worked. I always imagined they were either used the bow to hit the firing pin of an actual shell, and behave more like a gun. But some of them have prohibitively short barrels for them to be gun like, so I've also imagined that they launch rocket assisted arrows more similar to a crossbow. Or they could just be a weird fantasy weapon, idk.
I always thought of them being an automatic crossbow which behaves like a gun. thus bowgun. In the end they are just fancy looking crossbows with the power of a gun.
I'd mostly advise this weapon to be used ONLY with huge slow monsters. Yian Kut-Ku and other smaller targets can be a little tricky to follow and hit. It is also advisable to use this weapon with a team since you'll normally want your fellow hunters to provide you with long enough cover you need to put up with your lack of mobility.
Yaseen Noor Not really no, I fought gore magala with it and while I do take longer to beat him most of the time I feel more in control than with the melee weapons. With a team it certainly is more easy but the weapon is not half bad alone either. You can even bring all kinds of traps and flash bombs in order to incapacitate a monster if you want to kill it faster/more easy. Well, I guess I am just used to doing ranged from unite.
Fairycancel Well true, it's one awesome weapon once you get familiar with it. The different kinds of shells with every upgrade is the only thing that ticks me about ranged weapons. Still, I wouldn't recommend HB to new or intermediate players as it needs a lot of patience and a good eye in reading opportunities to shoot or move. Bows and Light Bowguns are way easier to master.
Yaseen Noor Funny enough, I simply can't use the light bowgun xD. I die so easy with it for some reason. Back in unite I specialized in Bow and LS but in this it feels really awkward for me since I am used to changing the camera the psp way. I can deal with the heavy bowgun but I am crap with any other ranged weapon. I guess there is no really easy or hard weapon. It depends on the person. Unless its the GS which probably have the most simple strategy in the whole game. The thing going for the bow is the amazing mobility and the status effects it have but it means jack if you cant aim quickly while moving so yeah... I am terrible with it now.
Yaseen Noor Yeah, xD. It can get a bit stale. I prefer weapons that you use a lot of things in your arsenal often. My favorite weapon is the charge blade because of that(shield also gives a couple of points hehe). I am not particularly fond of slow melee weapons. The only exception is the Charge Blade.
I think I am going to specialize in Charge Blade and Heavy Bowgun. They are both pretty fun to play as. The only bad thing is having to gain a lot more armor sets xD. I like Double Swords and the Long Sword but they seem like it can get pretty repetitive and the LS can really screw over people if you go all out... So yeah, why use it when you can't even go all out when you play with other people?
can you make a tutorial on different ammo type? like at what monster size normal 3 become useful? at what size does pierce 1 out damage pierce 2 (if ever?) etc.
Well I cut the first rathian you fight's tail off with 15 rounds, using a small bowgun gun that rapid fired them twice. Seem a reasonable amount of rounds for a bowgun to cut off with. IF they cut as well as swords that would be horribly unbalanced
+Master Hiei While I disagree with your method, I do agree with the sentiment... Try these things out for yourself. Monster Hunter is all about discovery, so try out those crag shots against certain things, see if you CAN cut the tail of a monster with Slicing shots! That's what I'm doing!
Not being able to equip both shield and power barrel must only apply the later heavy bowguns cause with the 2 that I have I'm able to equip the shield, the barrel, and the sight.
Any particular armour set that compliments gunners best? Low or High rank armours. Im aiming towards a complete set from one monster. In Low I have a Tetsucabra set but im going to need a new one soon. Im just at High rank in MP and just started high in Caravan.
Hi. So at one point I was able to use Flaming S bullets...now there's a red "X" on it and cannot use it anymore. When am I able to use special bullets and why does it have a red "X" on elemental bullets? I don't know when I can start using specific bullets. Please help thanks
It usually means that you haven't made/bought enough bullets and don't have them anymore or that you might have upgraded your bowgun to a new one that can't use those bullets.
I'm gonna be a little late on the response, but this is footage from the demo, where you got to toy around with random preset armor and weapon sets. It's entirely plausible that the armor set pictured here has Deadeye as a skill, just don't know for sure unless anyone can confirm based on the armor set. PS: I'm not good with gunner sets, only just this morning started a new 4U game in hopes of maining HBG through the story mode... About to face Yian Kut Kut but have a full Jaggi set. Definitely prefer HBG over LBG, coming from someone who mains gunlance and charge blade on another save with 600+ hours. I'm definitely digging HBG though!
1 question i dont find answered: when i use this knee down shot, will it comsume my ammo 1:1 or will it be like light bowguns 1:3 or any other reduced ratio?
+Alwin Kraus siege shots consume the ammo at the normal rate it just gives u a larger "clip" size so u can maintain ur dps w/o reloading.I know the answer is quite late but hope it helps. Anyway don't limit yourself to only using siege shots or vice versa.Even in multiplayer hunts u cant always siege unless u doing HAME runs with ur party.
everythings fine thank you for answering. its my first monster hunter and im testing around. though i have alread 40+ hours into im still more looking for my favourite weapon than progressing the game (just unlocked caravan hr and online hr2 ^^") though i still have one new big question what i didnt find answered or even mentioned at all: when going through the lbg details on the page which shows what shots can be rapid-fired there is a "time" stat (next to the shots fired) but what does it do?
is the "time" stat u referring to the "wait" column. if it is then that stat is the waiting time taken for the string of shots to be fired while being rooted to the spot u are shooting from. "low" being the least time taken to recover from being rooted ,"high" being the most time taken to recover from the root effect and lastly "avg" being in the middle. Well at least this is what i think you are referring to in your question.
+Kabilan Tamilarasu im a german at my game it "Zeit" (Time) and there are numbers in them. like one lbg has rapidfire > normal s 2 > -2 (thats in the translated "time" column) dont know which lbg exactly but it had a red icon and since im not that far into the game (just ended carawan 6) there arent that many. i will look after that once im back home. thx anyways for the answer so far
+Alwin Kraus i see... ok no problem i think in this case we are referring to the same thing. ive attached a picture below that might help. drive.google.com/open?id=0B-weSdgcdT4dNTk2bUdhR3VfczQ
Okay here is a trevia for you, I for some resun can master a weapon perfectly in the arena battle's, but when I then go into the field useing same weapon I fail extreamly, now why is that? I have the opposit problem with the bug cleave I'm a master Bug cleave user, but when I go to the arena exempel to battle the kecha wacha I suck extreamly at useing the bug cleave, any one ells that has this problem, and do any one have any idea how I can get rid of this limiter I have.
play around with different sets, if you play with one set too long you'll be too used to it to be good with any others for a while. (I overused fatalis armor in mh4u)
Funny thing is, i have the Zinogre gun now and it seems silly of me to have said it's Le Deserte, lol. I really hate that the internet has little.. visual information of anything gunner related. I can see most melee weapons with pictures added to them if i look them up, but not for bowguns.
Yes it is. It's the go to, if you are attacking easy to hit weak spots and/or want to break a certain part. It's also good on smaller monsters where Pierce 3 or 2 won't connect all hits.
I know this is a bit old, but that would be the Mightning, the Zinogre HBG. I just tackled the Frenzied Tigrex in 5* Caravan, and it's a fresh save file that I dedicated to a ranged character. I have like 600+ hours sunk into blademaster weapons, so I was looking for a change... And it certainly made all the difference. Hope you give or have the HBG a chance!
Seras Victoria It's more the case of choosing between mobility and raw damage. As a gunner do you stay away and snipe? Or do you get closer like a assault rifle or shotgun and duck n weave?
Capcom should've tranferred the light bow and heavy bow mechanics to mhw because they're so slow and annoying even fully customized, only used them a couple times.
As a general bowgun vet I have to say that while using a heavy bowgun if you are not confident in your ability to dodge attacks use the shield. 5 minutes in, wondering why it's taking so long for the guy to get onto weapon styles and hunter arts... before realising it's a MH4U video. Ay.
+Snow Chan lol
There's ancestral steppe in base Generations?
This tutorial and the charge blade, switch axe, and gunlance tutorials really helped to make me a better Hunter. Thank you
Man, thankl you for all the work you have done to bring these tutorials. I cant wait for this friday!
Very useful tutorials. This arcade manager approves.

The beautiful Seltas armor! 💙

Th0mmy11 lol yeah that thing destroys, i have the upgraded verison of it.
I think the gunner class is really hard to use in solo and is more useful in online because your friends would be taking most of the monsters aggro while in solo the only other things taking the aggro is your palicoes

That thing looks like a freaking railgun.
Makes sense, being Zinogre’s bowgun and all

Fairycancel I like AND hate GS or Hammer because of that. Just find your opening, get that one powerful smash, sheath, run and repeat :P
Yaseen Noor Yeah, xD. It can get a bit stale. I prefer weapons that you use a lot of things in your arsenal often. Cuz your a samurai!
you forgot to point that you can quickly enter the siege mode by pressing x right after you dodge...
can you make a tutorial on different ammo type? like at what monster size normal 3 become useful? at what size does pierce 1 out damage pierce 2 (if ever?) etc.
Hmm, have you ever considered doing a tutorial on specific bullet types? Namely the cutting shot. Is it possible to cut tails with a bowgun?
Slicing rounds are very effective at removing the tails off eligible monsters.
XDarkFableX Are they more effective in MH4 because I recall trying them in MH3U and they weren't very good.
Well I cut the first rathian you fight's tail off with 15 rounds, using a small bowgun gun that rapid fired them twice. Seem a reasonable amount of rounds for a bowgun to cut off with. IF they cut as well as swords that would be horribly unbalanced

At the same time? Any bowgun can equip either. But none at the same time. Perhaps you're thinking of a limiter removal.
Any particular armour set that compliments gunners best? Low or High rank armours.
Im aiming towards a complete set from one monster. In Low I have a Tetsucabra set but im going to need a new one soon.
Im just at High rank in MP and just started high in Caravan.
I have a question, can you equip and then remove the limiter from time to time?
what do you prefer when you are going to use a range weapon??
Hi. So at one point I was able to use Flaming S bullets...now there's a red "X" on it and cannot use it anymore. When am I able to use special bullets and why does it have a red "X" on elemental bullets? I don't know when I can start using specific bullets. Please help thanks

sorry i just played MH4U may i ask how can i get 'NormS Add' skill
kinda curious. were you using deadeye at all in this? the normal level 3 crit distance just looked suprisingly huge
I'm gonna be a little late on the response, but this is footage from the demo, where you got to toy around with random preset armor and weapon sets. Any G-rank armor recommendation for HBG ?

dont know which lbg exactly but it had a red icon and since im not that far into the game (just ended carawan 6) there arent that many.
i will look after that once im back home. thx anyways for the answer so far
+Alwin Kraus i see... ok no problem i think in this case we are referring to the same thing. ive attached a picture below that might help. drive.google.com/open?id=0B-weSdgcdT4dNTk2bUdhR3VfczQ
Good guide, what armor are you using?
think thats seltas queen armour but hes on the demo
Okay, thank you, I've been wondering what it was lol.
I want the link for the updated tutorial
How do you block with shield attachment?
it's automatic as long as you aren't in a shooting/recoil animation and face the attack
Okay here is a trevia for you, I for some resun can master a weapon perfectly in the arena battle's, but when I then go into the field useing same weapon I fail extreamly, now why is that?

Is there a place in the full game where I can practice with weapons without doing a quest or expeditions. Also what bowgun is that?
There are some training missions made to learn the weapons. They put u against a super easy monster after a tutourial
what about the wyvern shot? any tips and info on it?
If I'm not wrong, the Wywern Shot is only on the Gun Lance.
+Cheezy Kas when you remove the limiter from a heavy gun. You can use wyvern fire
Jaime Piocuda Ohhh I see...
what is that heavy bowgun and armor set
darkone174 The Heavy Bowgun is the Shagaru Magala bowgun (Le deserte i think its called, not sure). And the armor set is the Seltas Queen Gunner set.
Funny thing is, i have the Zinogre gun now and it seems silly of me to have said it's Le Deserte, lol. I really hate that the internet has little.. visual information of anything gunner related. I can see most melee weapons with pictures added to them if i look them up, but not for bowguns.
Now I know how to rapid fire,well...what bulits I need
Which bowgun are you using in this tutorial?
Sin orgen
Arekkz using Normal lv2 ammo is good ?
Yes it is. It's the go to, if you are attacking easy to hit weak spots and/or want to break a certain part. It's also good on smaller monsters where Pierce 3 or 2 won't connect all hits.
So, if I get rid of the limiter I can't siege?
Correct. Removing the limiter removes your ability to use siege mode, but in return you can load wyvern fire ammo into your gun
are normal 1 shots worth using now or no?
They are terrible, never use them if you have a choice.
PKrockin
so same as ussual?
shiiit
Carnassious yeah just there incase you have nothing else
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I can't seem to do some of the things in this video. Such as reloading on the draw.
You may have already figured it out but press R+X+A
how do u unlock the limiter?
st81982001 With a bowgun that's rare 5 or higher i think, you can remove it in the upgrade equipment where you can put a shield on the gun i think.
You have the option to remove the limiter on Bowguns Rank 6 or higher with the Smithy.
man his weapon looks like a Balista mixed with a year 2150 ultra laser railgun.
Bowguns can get crazy
I know this is a bit old, but that would be the Mightning, the Zinogre HBG. I just tackled the Frenzied Tigrex in 5* Caravan, and it's a fresh save file that I dedicated to a ranged character. I have like 600+ hours sunk into blademaster weapons, so I was looking for a change... And it certainly made all the difference. Hope you give or have the HBG a chance!
My problem is getting a bow gun and getting gunner armor
excellent explanation my friend
damn why do i feel like Heavy bowguns from freedom unite were much easier?
I thought the light bowgun was harder to master than the heavy bowgun.
So bowgun or heavy bowgun?
+Chris Butrim light bow gun for elemental or status. heavy for raw dmg from normal/pierce shots.
the ammo is infinite
?
For standard bullets yet. For special ammo no.
:/ ok
