    I used a small notebook, keep it in the tank bag. I use it to makes notes of thing I forgot and also things I'm not using, to leave at home next time. Cool video !

      @donnieyoung2774 good idea to take notes on paper or on the phone. I've realized how handy a pen and paper on the bike can be. Some National Forest sites only have a pay box to drop the slip and money, and most of the time, there isn't anything to write down your info.

    Good list. A fire starter can be life or death in a bad situation- which is why I keep one in my first aid.

    Most of the items you mentioned (or at least the ones I agree with) never leave my hydration backpack. It is more likely to go on the bike if I am doing anything other than my commute. I also include some "emergency" protein (meat stick, high protein fruit and nut bar), sunscreen and wipes. It sucks having to lock it in the bear locker or put it up a tree in bear country, but being my hydration pack it also has...water so I never forget that. I grab it if leaving the bike by more than 150' while out in the country.
    The camp shoes are replaced with flip flops if temps will be 55f or higher and I have no plans for hiking.
    Spare small dry bag for dirty clothes/things that have to go in a bag of clean clothes/things.
    And my "useless luxury", a super lightweight robe. It is my camp clothes, how I go to the showers, what I use to strip off my riding suit in public without mentally scaring children (my base layer is embarrassing) and it doubles as my pillow case around my dry bag of clothes that is my pillow.
    My proven important essential but not yet while motorcycle touring in the US: spare debit card between the insole and footbed of my boot along with a micro sd card with high quality scans of my important documents, emergency phone numbers, primary debit and credit card, etc. I have not been robbed yet in Central America (when I started the practice) but I did get my passport lifted in Spain. Having the scan of the original plus my US drivers license got me a replacement passport at the embassy in under an hour after they opened.

      @@MotoCampNerd yep. Except for the water, the hydration pack gets restocked with anything used even on a day trip the morning after the trip. It hangs next to my gear in the mudroom.

    I "edit" my kit every trip. I keep most of it unpacked on pegboard in garage, always make sure things are charged up. Travel sized toiletries kit with travel towel-soap-washcloth in one different colored bag. I thought I forgot it once, but it was in pannier in an invisible black bag. I have to "touch" items every time instead of leaving them packed.

    • @MotoCampNerd
      @MotoCampNerd  Місяць тому +1

      That's a good tip for others as well. I put a kit together and seal it closed so I know it has everything so I can grab and go. The pegboard idea is great so like you said, can see and touch each item as you pack it. Take it a step further and make it shadow board so you know what's missing.

    I forgot my sleeping bag once. I was helping guide a large group trip and was kinda known as the gear guy. I was so embarrassed 😳. I didn't tell anyone. Thank goodness there was a local general store where I was able to buy a $20 sleeping bag which was surprisingly decent. I love your suggestion of the possible pouch and will be packing one up for my next trip!

    This is an absolutely easy thing to avoid. I cannot imagine how anyone would forget these items. If you organize your gear and keep all your fire stuff with your cook set. Pillow stays with sleep gear. Bug spray stays on the bike with lens cleaner and first aid gear. Footwear stays with tent as I don’t wear camp shoes anywhere else. Lighting stays with cook set and an extra one on the bike. Totally avoidable if you get organized. There is of course always someone in the room that is a hot mess, but it’s avoidable.

Leading up to that trip I spent endless hours researching product and watching your videos, along with Stacy Wilt (@ridetofood). The note on this video for the Bug Spray or Therma Cell is a "must-have"! Even though I camped at KOA campgrounds, I still found the first item I set-up was the Therma Cell.
