Cecil Jimmy Andrew. The Ongoing Circle. I saw them 5 nights in a row at the Jazz Workshop in Boston around this time. Sir one was on bass, but he laid out a bunch and let them play as a trio. Spring of Two Bluejays

When i watch Cecil - he have so many joyces ; he creating his "PERSONNAL" music chord after chord ; he blow up his piano but he can have the sensibility of Schuman sometime ; he was a great jazz player (it's time who show who he was) anyway thanks for upload

Pretty powerful stuff, but this is essentially why people hate jazz....

is this really what people think of when they think of jazz?! more likely Oscar Peterson, Duke Ellington and Bill Evans is the sound people have in their heads. Cecil Taylor is fringe stuff but quite compelling at its best, especially when the cluster dominated textures thin out revealing some pitch material eg. 19:28
The main deficit is there's alot of padding in the sax and perc which i find rather exhausting/garrulous. The cross fertilisation interests me: this style would be unthinkable without Bartok and Cowell but in turn classical contemporary composers have been influenced by Taylor. Love the way this is filmed and the timbre of the bechstein piano.
