I was just discussing with some friends how awesome a Magnum Hellcat with the current Dodge design language would be to compete with the Euro power-wagons that are base $100K and go up from there. Remember the CTSV Wagon? LS power with room for the kids and the dog in the back? Hell Yeah! I've always had a special place for Hot-Hatches and powerful wagons. They're both the personification of hot rodding, take a basic everyday car and put the big engine in it.
When my first daughter was born I used it as an excuse to buy the family station wagon (2006 Magnum SRT8) still have it and enjoy driving it on nice days!
I've been around Magnums since I was young. My dad had two, My grandfather had one, and the both raced them very competitively! Then one day after I graduated High School, I bought an '06 Magnum R/T. I have daily driven and raced that car for years, and have loved it every day. I sold that car last week, and it was one of the hardest decisions of my life so far. I will have another some day, they are so special!
I used to have an 05 Magnum RT rwd. I bought it to use as a combination fun toy and tow rig with decent MPG. It did both just fine. It had a couple of issues common to all early-build Hemi cars - first, the front end alignment was way off due to an engine cradle build issue, so the thing pulled to the right horribly. My local alignment shop was able to solve the issue by aligning the front with a ton of cross-caster (which is what the TSB that Chrysler finally released also reccommended). Second, the ECU was a little different from the later cars, so it kept frying the Diablosport tuner I had bought and failed to take a tune correctly. Diablosport, after RMAing my tuner twice, finally was forced to admit that it was a known issue and that their tuner wouldn't work on my car. I ended up selling the car after only about a year because I no longer needed a tow rig, and it was new enough that it was just too damn expensive and time-consuming to work on and modify. The price has come down enough now though, that I'm planning a 6.4 truck hemi swap into a 3.5-powered Magnum. It should get the same MPGs as an RT, with a 5h!tload more power and torque.
When I started looking into it, alot of the dodge/Chrysler/Jeep from that era had ecu issues with coil drivers, voltage regulators, issues with tuning software. Even some of their light control modules had issues as well. On headlights, I always thought a computer doesn't need to be involved in the operation.... Just makes it less reliable
What a lot people don’t know is that the magnum came with an adaptive transmission. Over time it learns your driving style and adjusts shifting. I had an AWD RT and LOVED it! Regrettably I went through a stage of being stupid and got too far in arrears with payments and the bank came along and said, “I’ll take that thank you very much”. I never should have let that car go. It was a beast.
I have 06' RT version I love the hell out of it. Sure it ain't fast like the SRT but when I bought it had a exhaust system like this one and it sounds amazing, feels amazing. people tend to stop me and ask about it cause it's a oddity nowadays since station wagons have evolved kinda into SUV'S. Tbh I'd love if Dodge did a 23' magnum with a durango face and with hellcat or if they wanna be crazy a hellephant
There are people out there that actually swap out the front back with the newer chargers or Durangos. Watch Junkyard Dave. He's got a lot of videos on making the magnum look like a newer 2020 or newer magnum. Its amazing.
I had an 05 Magnum RT AWD. It was a great car traction was great and storage flexibility was nice. Moved to Charger RT Max for another 7 year run and now have 2020 Daytona. All 3 cars drive really well and no issues on any of them. Seeing this Magnum put a smile on my face.
to this day im 21 been waiting to find a specific one and im getting it by the end of this year n its ironic how these type of vids come up hysterical , my uncle would always take us everywhere on weekends in his rt and always joked about how fast it is😂😂😂😂
Had a 5.7 Hemi AWD. Overtaking on the highway was hilariously easy, and it was unstoppable in snow. Best road trip vehicle I ever had. Wish I'd have never sold it.
@@berrymucuckiner4890 its typical chrysler junk, but I didnt care. It had lots of go and personality. Ive always loved Mopar for that, which has made the build quality a bit more excusable for me.
my dad has a modified magnum RT that he daily drives, it has plenty of space, all the suspension is redone + tuned, engine and transmission are also tuned so it shifts alot faster than stock, it's super cool and I think they are pretty slept on tbh
I have a 2007 Magnum SXT with 58k miles. Love it and the 3.5 is plenty under the hood. Yes indeed these wagons are head-turners for sure. I've seen a few of the 2023's around here lately. I like the look of the previous generation Magum Wagon.
2006 Dodge Magnum R/T 5.7 Hemi. Was given to my brother from the mom and he gave it to me for my birthday. Always thought it was a cool car now that I drive it daily while my Duramax Dually is in the body shop. 230k miles and is still smacking 5.0s and 6.2s. Those 5.7 hemis are no slouches and are very modification friendly. Flowmaster exhaust on it too and loud does it hum cruising and sounds like a beast when its rolling out. I plan to freshin it up after I get my truck where I want in. Debating hellcat 2019 charger conversion or pushing that 5.7 to that 500-700hp threshold and create a sleeper. We shall see
David, I am massively jealous. I wanted one of those, or even an R/T with AWD as a daily driver for years. I almost bought one, but never made it happen. If I could, I would swap my Focus ST for a car like yours. It's a practical, comfortable, well-handling and pretty fast car bone-stock. Those engines can also take long term and constant abuse way more than a high strung (read:highly boosted) 4cyl import. This is the kind of project I have been waiting for you, or others like you to do, for a long time. Can't wait to see what the end result is!
I’ve driven a couple 6.1 hemi cars. Manual and auto, both showed me how you really don’t get any power till at least 3,000rpm. I thought it would rip down low like the 6.4 but it didn’t lol. 6.4 is such a great replacement. I always loved the look of metal intake manifold on the 6.1
Ive driven both 6.1 and 6.4 and honestly Id keep my 6.1 instead. Yeah you arent getting much power down low but in a race you never really are down low. Ive smoked way too many new scatpacks, 5.0, and ss’s in a mid 2,000’s car that was way ahead of its time. Really the only thing the 6.4 has thats beneficial would be the 8 speed other than that it feels bad to get smoked by a 05-10 muscle car after paying 3x the price 😵💫
I’ve always loved these cars! I would definitely Hellcat one of those bad boys. With the right suspension mods & a few body tweaks, you’d have one Hell of a ride.
I had a 2006 that Injected Engineering here in Georgia modified. Had cam, heads, long tubes, Borla exhaust, ported intake manifold, modified TCM, etc. Basically everything that you could throw at it with the exception of a torque converter. The car made mid 420's real wheel horsepower and torque and ran 12.5's - 12.7's up to 115 mph in the quarter back in 2012 on Toyo street tires! Loved the car and it still lives with a family friend in Kansas. He rebuilt the motor and re-tuned it so the car is strong as ever.
Theres a youtuber - i cant remember off the top of my head - but hes been doing a hellcat swap + awd system from the trackhawk in a magnum. been a pretty significant build.
I’ve always loved the dodge magnum, and the srt8 is one of my dream cars. I’m in a position now where I can consider paying a car payment and get a good car I truly want. This is very high on my list
Do it! I don't see many on the road and the ones I do see are the V6. I believe it will be a future classic along the lines of the Dodge Shelby cars from the 80s. A stealthy collectible and under most people's radar.
Don't finance a used car. Especially anything from plymouth.. save up and just buy it. Or finance something new and reliable with a warranty. You don't want to be making payments on a broken car.
Don’t wait. The price will be going up by the day. And it will never come back down, even if there is no gas to burn, they will still be valuable if for nothing else but to stare at and go, “yeah, America rules.”
Ever since learning that they exist, the SRT8 has been my most wanted car for a while now! I've just always loved cars that don't look like they should be fast but they are
One of my all time favorite cars , I owned 2 of them, started with the 6cyl and then a few months later I traded it in for the hemi(non-srt) put intake on it and full exhaust and damn did it sound good. Had to say good buy to get a truck. Great car buttom line great car
These cars are extremely hard to find and when you do they are a arm and a leg. I love me some sleeper wagon. Yes hellcat swap and a wide body would be oooh gives me goosebumps!!!
I had an 07 Magnum r/t with the 29r road a track package they are pretty rare they have suede interior it was a super nice car. It basically has everything the srt did but with the 5.7 motor.
Being an Lx enthusiast for as long as this chassis has been out (2005), this was just so enjoyable for me as a viewer to see you hop in one of these things and actually enjoy it. Makes me wonder of you would ever be interested to check out the "Spring Festival of LX's" that happens in march down in Irvine CA. I personally think you would have a blast!
I am looking forward to seeing the finished product when you merge that red eye engine in a Dodge Magnum for Roadkill Nights! I hope they have everyone close enough together so I can say hi to you and a few other UA-cam creators during meet 'n' greet times.
I've always had a spot for the Magnum, even if its face is the sorta thing only a mother could love. It's a fast, great sounding, sleeper-wagon! Can't hate that.
I owned a 2007 SRT for years. Great car and almost no one knew it was quick. With a CAI and Diablo, I ran 12.8's all day at Englishtown. LOVE these cars.
Had a awd sxt Magnum when i was about 21. Best car i ever had lol. Fond memories of drifting around neighborhoods in the snow when i was delivering for Jimmy Johns.
I loved the magnum. Honestly wish they brought it back with the charger front end and charger tail lights. And if it had a v8? That would be seriously sick!
Have had an ‘07 for 10 years, garage kept…35,000 miles on it. The balance is amazing, almost sitting on the ground. The ‘wagon’ shape balances out the big block up front. Truly is a sports car for bigger guys…( 6’1 “ 300 lbs) Getting out of my Avalanche into this, throws me against the seat at times. Taking turns on empty roads is a blast.
I love my '06 Rt. Really is a dream to drive. The weight only helps the cars handling. Tires stay planted on the road in open throttle turns. The traction control is awesome when it's off at a stop light. The shelves in the trunk suck along with the lifter failure (MDS). And even seat and gas pedal adjustments turn the car from a grocery getter into a hot rod in seconds. Classy sexy car design. Almost vintage mobster kinda feel
I have an RT awd and I absolutely love it. I wanted an srt but we get a lot of snow where I live so awd was a must. The car never ceases to impress me, it's fun to drive gets pretty good mileage for what it is and it's versatile. I hammered through two feet of snow last year and didn't get stuck, drive it to the mining pit every day with no problems, and even with 233k on the odometer it runs like a top.
I have always been a fan of the SRT-8 Magnum but everyone that I've talked to about them has hated them. Screw them, that thing is sick! Unfortunately, like the Charger, it was never available with a manual option 😓
Thats usually how it goes. Either love it or hate it. No in between. Had an 05 RT was ruined in a flood years ago. Found an 06 SRT next state over a year or two later. Been a garage queen ever since. Basically run out the tank from previous year, fill up and back to bed.
The Magnum SRT8 grew on me pretty quick after I first heard about it to be honest. Inperfect as it is, It's just another one of those loveable weird American cars to me. Right up there with the Prowler, the SSR, HHR SS, and Dodge Neon SRT4.
these cars are crazy expensive right now. like $28k plus... wow. ive always loved the magnum even when it seemed like everyone else i knew hated them. i have a soft spot for wagons. these things definitely deserve a manual transmission. that auto seems like an absolute dog.
I just want to see a Magnum with a Hellephant crate engine. Redeye swap would be amazing too. Junkyard Dave has THE best Charger wagon conversion I've ever seen
I think inflations is causing the current situation we already have now,the prices increases is due to the higher demand of paying out to the employees. The authorities in this country always treat us like children who cannot figure anything out for ourselves.right now venturing into multiple income streams is the best way to survive the current hardship and recession.
I have an 06 SRT Magnum that I bought back in 2012. It's the rarest of the 6.1 SRT8s by far, less than 2,500 total made. It's my weekend car, but I've used it for chores. 65" TV, 40 gallon water heater, and long road trips with the family while gapping other V8s of the era. Other than the CTS-V Wagon, it's the only muscle wagon left.
My parents had one growing up. Was a lot of fun, suspension was stiff (as it should be), and easy to really chirp the tires even with the ESC on. Absolutely loved it. Was the first car I broke 150 mph's in.
I miss having a hemi. I only had the 5.7 in a challenger but I didn't keep it stock. Not the fastest but it was so comfy and fun, plus I loved the exhaust note.
I feel like these days that there's not many people left that even know that station wagons used to be super popular and very common in North America. I had to have one of these back in 2006. Saw two for sale in Virginia and ordered one (both were TorRed color). After about two weeks, got a call telling me the car was in. Loved it. The fasted grocery getter in Southern Oregon. Unfortunately, I got sick and had to sell it. I really miss that car.
I bought one 2 months ago with 30k miles and I am gonna have fun. It’s got factory rear dvd and my kids love it. I am going to bring home my 3rd gear head properly this time when he decides to make his first appearance. These magnums are absolutely bananas.
Dont forget these also came in a AWD version as well they really hard to find. These are by far some of my favorite rides due to the fact 1 its a wagon 2 its a wagon with 400+ horses 3 its a wagon you can get a aftermarket supercharger do a few odd and end changes and boom 600+ horses and if you have the awd version it will gaptize anything.

I have the 2006 RT AWD, the previous owner did not roll it and neglected it a bit but after few repairs, this is the new family car once the gas prices are stabilizing.
Had a 2005 SXT Magnum I loved that car. Back in 2004 when I purchased the car I couldn't afford to feed a V8 Hemi. I had that Magnum until last year when it finally died
I remember the commercial-Porsche guy was following the Magnum in canyons, comes up at stop light & says " What you got in that thing?" Surfer dude " I got a surf board, canoe & cooler"
i owned one for years, supercharged it, viper hood, lowered meats in the rear....it was an absolute monster. Was nothing more satisfying then walking other sportscars with a station wagon.
These we under appreciated cars. With some bolt ons it was genuinely quick. I have owned one since new and I never get tired of tunnel blasts and pulls under overpasses.
You gotta think though from 06-08 we seen the highest gas prices ever until recently. So I could see how a 400 hp 6.1L v8 probably wasn’t the ideal choice. Still a cool car love your videos
425hp I was working for a Chrysler dealership when theh were new. Gas prices maybe caused a few to choose an RT rather than an SRT but it was mostly the Charger that cut into Magnum sales and did so to every trim level.
Best thing about that car was space. My home boy would come get me and I was last one picked up so I was always I'm the back. Everyone wanted one wanted to be seen in the Magnum. 3 years later. All engines crapped out lol

@@scottdangerfield3227 now I have always wondered what would it take to make an AWD Charger or Challenger. I know space is an issue in a car but. If it were possible the thing would be nutty

My dad had a 2011 srt8 challenger when I graduated HS. That 6.1 with the 6speed manual was insanely good. Still my favorite sounding modern hemi.

Magnum XL 😂
I've always loved the SRT8 Magnum, but I love all fast wagons. I only wish they would come back.
Seriously do feel like an updated Magnum would sell in today's market. If only
With cars like the Mercedes E63 AMG, BMW M3 Touring, and the Audi RS6 Avant, I would say Dodge pulled the Magnum out of the inventory way too soon.
A new generation would've been so damn nice. Especially with the current widebody option with a Hellcat trim would be rad.
I know that feeling must have sucked.
Although my challenger is sxt it’s orange and I don’t wanna let it go
I used to have an 05 Magnum RT rwd.
I've owned a 07 msrt and currently have a 08 Msrt love these cars so much fun to drive.
The 08 is the facelift right? you dont see many in srt8 trim! thats pretty rare my man!
@@stickshift13 yeah there's only 240 of em for 08. Makes it impossible to find parts 🤦. But you'll never see another one at a show lol
Salute!! I daily an 06 mrt. You own the unicorn of mags!
I had a friend who had one of these while we were growing up. This is a badass ride, who doesn't love a fast wagon? 😁
@CoolGuy-ux5wx ive subbed to his channel way back. His modern magnum is amazing i wish dodge would acknowledge his work on it
@@MrChubs209 there was a video where he took it to a dodge dealership and the workers there were amazed by it.
It's got the same kind of manual mode that my 06 Grand Cherokee had, always thought it was funky for going left and right
I had an 05 Magnum RT AWD.
Best thing you ever did. It would be broken by now
I had a 05 Rt and miss it too I didn't sell mime my friends wrecked it

I have a 2007 Magnum SXT with 58k miles. Love it and the 3.5 is plenty under the hood. Yes indeed these wagons are head-turners for sure. I've seen a few of the 2023's around here lately. I like the look of the previous generation Magum Wagon.
The Magnum is definitely one of my dream cars as well. I've loved these cars ever since I was a kid back in '05. Someday, I must own one.
We shall see
My grandpa has a magnum v6 with over 500 thousand miles on it he still uses it this day and has always talked abt swapping it maybe one day 😅
David, I am massively jealous.
Owned an 05 SXT Awd and was hands down the most usable car. 250,000 miles and still going. Very cool to see some recognition!
Bought the first one that landed in my area. LOVED IT!! Eventually sold it but miss it every day; despite its handling/geometry weaknesses.
I’ve driven a couple 6.1 hemi cars. Manual and auto, both showed me how you really don’t get any power till at least 3,000rpm. I thought it would rip down low like the 6.4 but it didn’t lol. 6.4 is such a great replacement. I always loved the look of metal intake manifold on the 6.1
That's the reason Mopar switched to variable cam timing and variable length intake manifold, you get all the low end AND high end.

Do it! I don't see many on the road and the ones I do see are the V6. I believe it will be a future classic along the lines of the Dodge Shelby cars from the 80s.

Getting out of my Avalanche into this, throws me against the seat at times. Taking turns on empty roads is a blast.
We also got these in the UK, they called the 300c SRT8
I think, they were "300 Touring". They had grill and front bumper cover from 300.
Totally do the swap! Maybe to an R/T, though. We gotta save the SRT8s!
Why would he swap it to an R/T and downgrade?

This car has what Road&Track once called one of the cars they reviewed as having "road house zoot".
That vehicle was the GMC Syclone.
My parents had one growing up. Was a lot of fun, suspension was stiff (as it should be), and easy to really chirp the tires even with the ESC on. Absolutely loved it. Was the first car I broke 150 mph's in.
I had one of those with an slp loudmouth exhaust, sounds very similar. Had it for 10 years, loved every day with it
I miss having a hemi. I only had the 5.7 in a challenger but I didn't keep it stock. Not the fastest but it was so comfy and fun, plus I loved the exhaust note.
I feel like these days that there's not many people left that even know that station wagons used to be super popular and very common in North America. From the '50s through the '70s, wagons were "the" favorite family and grocery-getter cars. Every family I knew had a wagon and they were a blast. There were wagons everywhere at one time, such as Pontiac GTO and Tempest Wagon, Chevy Kingswood, Ford Fairlane and Torino, Olds Vista Cruiser 442, Dodge Coronet Wagon/Super Bee, Chevy Chevelle Wagon, and many more. Beautiful vehicles. I guess minivans wiped them out. Now it's SUVs.
