I've dated a woman who was like this. She wasn't nearly this bad, but the same mentality is there. People who have these types of delusions are not too different from conspiracy theorists. Drawn in with the idea that they know some secret knowledge that everyone else is either too dumb or too blind to see. Any small thing is seen as confirmation of their belief and all evidence against is twisted to either not matter or actually be evidence for why they are right. On the face of it, it is main character syndrome (i.e. "I'm the only one who knows the truth, I'm the only one who predicted this!") but it's also deeper than that. These people tie their ego and identity so closely with their special power/perception that they simply can not admit they're wrong. If they admit they are wrong then they would have a full blown identity crisis. So much of their life and what they "know" would be shattered. Life would simply seem so much more dull to them as well. No magic. No conspiracy. Just life. Just like cult mentality, it would have to be unlearned slowly, but doing that is a very difficult, long process.
To be fair, aren’t we all the main character of our own lives? The difference is the ability to see that not everyone else besides you is an npc. But yea, I’ve met similar people and it’s incredibly hard to be in their very presence cuz they never shut up about it either

Honestly, my mother is schizophrenic and instead of getting help she went her whole life believing she was psychic. I'll let you imagine the kind of crazy abusive life I've had before cutting ties at 40. Last time I spoke to her, she wanted to sue me for one of the times I had her hospitalized after she took pills and booze and made Facebook posts that alluded to unaliving herself. Mind you, she told the Dr in the ER that the voices would tell her to drive into the ditch while she had my kids in her car. I was so shocked, the Dr saw my face and asked more questions so I'd have proof never to leave my kids with her again. But I felt both finally justified in my battle with her illness and her claims a and horrified. She had never before admitted her voices told her to do shit like that. I've been there too, thanks to a paranoid delusional sibling. They attacked me in my mother's front lawn with a screwdriver and then were *so offended* when years later I told them I was concerned for my family's safety with them about it. No treatment, no medication, of course. Good on you for protecting your family- mental illness doesn't make someone dangerous, people who refuse to get treatment and help, even when in crisis, because of frankly ego, is dangerous.

Schizophrenia is such a complex mental illness, it often leaves the other person or persons feeling so bad that they can't do anything about it they just stick around. I was with my ex and kid'a father for 15+yrs. Until he shoved our daughter punched me and then put me in a choke hold a minute away from blacking out. I keep having flashbacks but luckily he's in jail on felonious assault. Gives me time to get the protection order in and move tf out with my kiddos. 💞 He has to figure his life out, and whether he wants to take his meds or be delusional and paranoid person who can't function in life. But I promised my children no more worrying about him cuz we've wasted too much time on an verbally, emotionally and physically abusive person who also is mentally ill.

I watched the dateline documentary on the Idaho murders... they literally covered all this on why the police didn't announce they had a suspect, also they had strong evidence on the person that was arrested for committing the murders oh and weird but they actually mentioned how tik tokers were a problem in the case, how these self proclaimed internet influencers were spreading false information. Not all psychological abnormalities are classified as mental illness. For example, psychopathy and sociopathy aren't mental illnesses(And anyway, speculating about someone's mental state is just an unethical and dangerous thing to do). She could also just be a run-of-the-mill opportunist.

@@raikouija663 They did move classes online, and about 1/2 the freshmen (& probably close to 1/2 of all the student body) left town. Classes are back in person and I think most people have come back up. Our community has come together, and we feel better now that Bryan has been caught.

This is wrong. There is no cap on damages. The lawsuit is for at least $75,000 because that is the jurisdictional minimum for a diversity jurisdiction case in federal court. In the prayer for relief, the professor is asking for damages to be determined at trial. Also, the psychic could be on the hook for hundreds of thousands in legal fees once she's ordered to pay the professor's fees.
She feels like the character who got Isekai'd in a book she obsesses over all her life, then when she has reached the timeline where the crime happened, she projects the plot from the book and insists on what she "found", and forgets that the reality she's in isn't the same as that book's storyline at all.

I've dated a woman who was like this. She wasn't nearly this bad, but the same mentality is there. People who have these types of delusions are not too different from conspiracy theorists. Drawn in with the idea that they know some secret knowledge that everyone else is either too dumb or too blind to see. Any small thing is seen as confirmation of their belief and all evidence against is twisted to either not matter or actually be evidence for why they are right.
On the face of it, it is main character syndrome (i.e. "I'm the only one who knows the truth, I'm the only one who predicted this!") but it's also deeper than that. These people tie their ego and identity so closely with their special power/perception that they simply can not admit they're wrong. If they admit they are wrong then they would have a full blown identity crisis. So much of their life and what they "know" would be shattered. Life would simply seem so much more dull to them as well. No magic. No conspiracy. Just life.
Just like cult mentality, it would have to be unlearned slowly, but doing that is a very difficult, long process.
If we didn't normalize belief in the supernatural, there would be far fewer nutjobs like this, and no one would take them seriously.

Honestly, my mother is schizophrenic and instead of getting help she went her whole life believing she was psychic. I'll let you imagine the kind of crazy abusive life I've had before cutting ties at 40. Last time I spoke to her, she wanted to sue me for one of the times I had her hospitalized after she took pills and booze and made Facebook posts that alluded to unaliving herself. Mind you, she told the Dr in the ER that the voices would tell her to drive into the ditch while she had my kids in her car. I was so shocked, the Dr saw my face and asked more questions so I'd have proof never to leave my kids with her again. But I felt both finally justified in my battle with her illness and her claims a and horrified. She had never before admitted her voices told her to do shit like that. Anyways, sorry to trauma dump. 🙃 But ppl like my mother and this girl exist and are fucking dangerous

@@raikouija663 They did move classes online, and about 1/2 the freshmen (& probably close to 1/2 of all the student body) left town. Classes are back in person and I think most people have come back up. Our community has come together, and we feel better now that Bryan has been caught.

This is wrong. There is no cap on damages. The lawsuit is for at least $75,000 because that is the jurisdictional minimum for a diversity jurisdiction case in federal court. In the prayer for relief, the professor is asking for damages to be determined at trial. Also, the psychic could be on the hook for hundreds of thousands in legal fees once she's ordered to pay the professor's fees.
