As requested, an update around the 3-year mark. I haven't had any more problems with the car - everything is still as before. I've done 38,000 km - almost 24,000 mile - so my mileage isn't very high. There are no squeaks or other annoyances, so it seems to have held up perfectly well to my generally light usage (although sometimes it gets loaded up to the top on long trips). The car is currently telling me that it needs an oil change in a couple of weeks, and over the three years it's had one oil change and one service, so that has been quite simple although the service at Audi was pretty expensive. I had a small scrape with another car about 15 months ago, and I had that repaired at Audi too - they did a fine job on the repair but the administration was pitifully incompetent. I am still perfectly happy with the car and plan to keep it for a long time - maybe 10 years or so - and so I can certainly recommend them still, especially if your local Audi dealer is more competent than mine!
2:42 That is an option you can disable on the setting; the navigation system would "learn" your most used destinations and proactively tells you about the traffic status even if you didn't activate the navigation
Mr. Jonathan, thank you very much for your nice videos. Coold you please help me? I was planing to buy used A4 allroad produced 2017. or 2018. but I ve heard that some of them hawe problems with brakes on heavy rain. Hawe you heard something about it for a4 allroad and allsow hawe you heard about souch problems with brakes in A4 avant?
I'm glad you liked the videos - for your information, I still have the car and am still happy with it. The only problem is an error message about the Pre Sense system which Audi did not solve when I took it to them. I'm sorry, I don't know anything about the possible brake problems.
This is the most useful review on the car I have seen so far. It has confirmed my choice of options and I will order mine in a couple of weeks. I bought an Audi A5 B5 back when i was at the universety and while its still running fine and has aged very well, I really want to get this generation of the A4. It seems to be such a significant step upwards as far as connectivity and quality goes, that i dont want to miss out on it before i go full electric, just like you mentioned in your video.
Thanks for posting the update. Now finally got an A4 Avant auto 2.0TFSI sport trim on order with lots of options. Always good to get positive feedback from someone who bought a similar model / engine combination and has spent some time with it. Hopefully I too have made a good choice.
Thanks for that video! Really cool to get an owners perspective! Have you ever thought of the LED lights? In my opinion the standard xenon lamps aren't really good looking, they seem quite cheap...
I have a very similar car like your Audi (A4 B9 190hp 2.0 TFSI ultra) but in a sedan version. My consumption results are not quite optimistic.... In a city, it is about 13-15l/100 (in a traffic jam). However, in the long routs the best result was 5.1l/100 but mostly it's about 7-8l/100.
Good review. I'm looking to swap my 220,000 mile 1.6 A3 diesel for something larger, perhaps the A6 advant with auto trans. My car has been almost trouble free and inexpensive to run over the past 9 years I've owned it and still drives perfect, so I imagine you'll have many years of trouble free motoring ahead. Glad you mentioned ankle fatigue, as I suffer from this. The pull out insert on the seat looks like it should help.
Thanks for the comment, my car is now 5 years old and I'm still just as happy with it. Of course, I don't do a lot of miles - it has 56,000 km / 35,000 miles, which is pretty low. Nothing really to add to what I've said before, I haven't had any unexpected maintenance. It's due an inspection (probably a minor service / oil change), and I will probably need new tyres soon, but that's all very normal. I hope to get another 5 good years out of it!
I presume you mean when the seat is fully back but still upright, not with the back reclined, right? In that case, yes there is still reasonable leg room although obviously it's a bit limited - it's not a car that's designed for chauffeur driving.
Hi Jonathan very useful review. I myself have an A4 B9 sedan with the 1,4 TFSI engine wich I'm very happy with. The fuel consumption on this car is ok for a petrol car and it's about 7,4 L/100 Km on average with a best on long trip of 4,7 litres on the highway. As I said nice review.
I have a further update following this video. A month or two ago I had a couple of warning messages in the console, and so the car went back to the Audi garage for diagnosis. They said that there was a fault in the door mechanism, and made an appointment to fix it. This was done with no problems, under the warrantee so it didn't cost me anything (and they even provided a replacement car for the day), so that worked out OK, but obviously if there are further problems after the end of the warrantee period (3 years, I believe), then I'll have to pay. I felt that it's important to add this as an addendum to the review. I'm still very happy with the car, and it evidently self-diagnosed the problem correctly...but it was still a problem that needed to be fixed!
I've got the A4 Avant 2.0 TDI quattro B9-version. I have close to no options, except the MMI-package. I thought I'd regret not getting the Virtual Cockpit and Matrix Lights, but that's not the case yet. I attribute that mostly to the fact that Android Auto covers most of my navigation and entertainment needs. The quattro was the avant was the main objectives for me, since I live in Norway. I'm usually get about 5.0-5.5 l/100km driving, but then again I seldom drive in anything you'd call a city. Aren't you due for your first service, Jonathan? And have you run into any mechanical problems so far? Cheers from Norway
Hi, thanks for your interesting feedback. I mentioned in one of my other videos that I found the standard gauges with the smaller screen also worked very well - did you go for the colour screen, or the basic black and white one?Are you happy with the four-wheel drive? I've never driven a car with it, so it's good to get an opinion from someone who does, and who really needs it - which I presume you do, if you live in the Norwegian countryside!I thought that the first service would be due after a year, but the car tells me that I still have several thousand km to go. I will take it for a service when the car tells me to do it!Lastly, I haven't had any mechanical problems at all - so far everything seems perfect. This extends to the interior too, where I don't see or hear any problems - no squeaks or other strange noises, everything is good.
Thanks! :) But I'm currently planning to keep it for a good few years yet, it's still essentially as good as new and I don't need or want anything else.
You CAN download speed camera POIs for the A4 B9 MMI ;) Just go to www.pocketnavigation.de/pois/zusaetzliche-pois-blitzer-audi/ (webpage is in German) You can program a warning sound, aswell. There's a video explaining the process of installing the speed camera POIs on your MMI, too ua-cam.com/video/Nu2s4JCQJTU/v-deo.html
Dear Jonathan. thank you so much for your full informative and valuable videos and reviews. ( it is conforting to find ocasionally diamonds in te garbage!). One question about tyres. I see that your car mounts 16' rims. I ordered my A4 Avant 1.4 with 16' rims and 205 width tyres. It was for free to mount 17' 225, but as I wanted to maximice comfort and economy I chose 16', something so rare here in Spain, where people tend to choose F1 tyres even with basic engines. I use to drive smoothly 99% of the mileage. Do you think I made the right election since your experience? thank you!
Hello Mario, thanks for your message. I'm not an expert on tyres; according to my understanding smaller rims (and therefore fatter tyres) give you better comfort and economy, and larger rims (thinner tyres) give better handling and people think they look sexier. My thinking was that I'm not racing this car and I should always be well within its handling capabilities, so I don't need the best handling; I also don't really care how the wheels look when I'm driving because I'm inside the car. Better comfort and economy sounded good to me, and also smaller rims are cheaper, and I really don't see the point of spending an extra thousand euros on slightly different wheels! So I would say that I agree with your decision, but I think it's just a personal choice and there isn't really a "right" or "wrong" decision. I hope you will be very happy with your A4 Avant!
Hi, I have pinned a new comment with a 3-year update - thanks for the idea! I do think that the A4 is a very good car and I have no regrets about my choice. Right now, I'd say that the new 3 series looks very interesting too, though, and obviously benefits from the latest technology (although I don't know if they are actually available yet).
For me, yes, it's pretty quiet inside. I don't think it has luxury limo levels of silence but it's pretty quiet. When you're on the motorway, there's more wind and tyre noise than engine noise. The best thing, of course, is to have a test drive and hear for yourself!

Hi
What about the oil consumption? They resolved it? The b8 and b8.5 tfsi have this problem. Thank you!

Hi mate, just want to say great video. Iv just bought an a4 and this was very helpful. Great work
Thanks, I hope you like it! Mine is now 6 years and a day old, and I still plan to keep it for a few more.

Top review, better than most car reviews channels where they only try the top of the range model.
maybe stick the rubber strip to the roof bars with a decent adhesive?
Hi, nice review! I was wondering, how does this car handle bad roads, potholes and other such things?
Hi..Very useful review and it's something different as well, real life usage...

When the drivers seat is fully reclined, do rear passengers have enough leg room or are their legs crammed against the back of the seat ?
I presume you mean when the seat is fully back but still upright, not with the back reclined, right? In that case, yes there is still reasonable leg room although obviously it's a bit limited - it's not a car that's designed for chauffeur driving.

Loving the colour of the seat, what colour is this?
The seats are grey Alcantara. They are very comfortable!

Jonathan Oakey, thank you for you quick response and for your time.
Hi Jonathan, how is the car going after now another 2 years? I’m thinking in getting an A4 to replace my BMW.
Hi, I have pinned a new comment with a 3-year update - thanks for the idea! I do think that the A4 is a very good car and I have no regrets about my choice. Right now, I'd say that the new 3 series looks very interesting too, though, and obviously benefits from the latest technology (although I don't know if they are actually available yet).
hello nice review, but i have got a question?
would you recommend for its quietness?

This bloke for real?
My dads got the 1.4tfsi engine in this car, pointless.
