This dude is really good at interviewing. NEVER interrupts, knows what to ask to engage the guest. Very good interview and masterful to get Nate to open up about his personal life. I had never known that about Nate until now.

His story about the crew of seniors… The attitude to know you’re capable of greatness but the humility to know you haven’t trained enough yet… Nate seems like a hard headed scrapper. Any historical philosopher would agree he has the mindset of someone that will succeed no matter what

Being a mexican from California. Around the same age as Diaz i can totally relate seeing people in high school like this. The damn gang members and cliques always have too be down to fight ..

Nick and Nate are the model brother duo that has each others back but also has that healthy competitiveness. The proof is in the pudding. Both are scrappers and literally fought for everything they have. Salute to those 2. Nothing but respect for them.

But it depends on what your goals are….bjj is practical. It can deter or stabilize most situations in real life
Meaning to say if mma is your goal then a wrestling base is best…..if youre a regular civilian wanting to handle business and defend yourself then bjj is perfect
I’ve trained with a few people that came to bjj from wrestling and they are monsters.
I train strictly Muay Thai but have been debating to do Sambo since there is still striking with submissions and takedowns but then wanted to transition to just wrestling since uncle Chael praises it so much

I like that he lets Nate speak through a lot of his brain fog that fighting has caused. I fought a bunch in grade school and a little bit in high school, and to this day I have a messed up jaw, a droopy eyelid and had two surgeries on my nose. I can’t imagine if I fought all through my teens, twenties and thirties, how much more damage I would’ve sustained. I got big big respect for fighters and the way they choose to make a living

@jgreen6434 I don't think fighting is as common as it was when we grew up. I was born in 91 and things were still pretty wild growing up. I think social media may have changed things. I could be wrong, but the fact that this kid is surprised about and mentioned Dagestan of all places is weird, lol.

When he mentioned that students were missing their bus ride home to go watch a fight at the park was on point. It was different growing up in Stockton Ca in the ‘90’s. The only city that I’ve been to that I would admit is more hood then Stockton is Memphis. Memphis is G.H.E.T.T.O.

Reminds me how I grew up…. all everyone talked about and did and had big riots at my high school was fighting and after being bullied at middle school and eventually snapping and beating everyone ass I got respect and at my senior year I suffered my first lost to someone who been treating in mma but it was a 1 vs 1 lost i best him once so started training after to see what it was all about …
Growing up in San Diego, I would get into fights but mostly relied on the strap.
