    Hi, I sold wood for many years and have changed the way I did it many times.
    I think all the people cutting wood have the same goal of getting outside and exercising , It’s a good way to make money,meet new people and be productive.
    Great videos

    I commented once on your small wood but now I see your point. I split for my boiler and that is entirely different. Have fun at what you do and stay safe.

    As you said, Heath, there are as many ways to do firewood as there are people making it. Find the right way for yourself and stick with it. Be open to improving as well. For my wife and I our splits are a mix of smalls and larger chunks. Smalls get used during the day when we can give the fire attention and larger chunks for the overnight burns. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    Agree with everything you've said. My prices are much higher than anyone around. I sell out earlier and earlier every year. The one thing I hear constantly is why does your wood burn better than anyone else's. It's because they're smaller splits so you get a better flame and also because it's seasoned.

    That's the perfect size for most wood stoves. The fire box in most stoves is small, so having wood split smaller is key to loading.
    Keep touching your wood 🪵 👌 💪

    Even being a full time firewood producer I agree with everything you have said. We are going to start getting very big into the small split market.

    😂Love the intro. Gotta love the ones that don’t GET IT. You get it. I agree 100%. People like the smaller stuff. Bundles are a money maker if you’re willing to work at it. Great video.

    Ignore the idiots and the haters! I honestly don't understand this thought that the less you touch the wood, the better. Give the people what they want! And I'm here yo tell ya, no matter if you sell 1,000 cords a year or 5, you're a real firewood guy. Do what works for you!
    And please - keep talkin', making videos, and keeping us entertained!!

    I was just talking the other night with Jerimiah at outdoors in the 608. we both agreed we don't want to be the lowest price firewood. small split ready to burn firewood is the key market we want as well. right now around us its pretty easy to find 70 or 80 dollar face cords and I just sold 1 for 200. I had to run it through the kiln but I have a product that not everyone can produce now.

    Heath you and Rachel always always have great content. You work hard and share with us a part of your lives. I know personally that a comment I made was reiterated during a podcast and right then I had to set the record straight and I was glad I did. I have enjoyed every video you have ever made. I know how hard you work and I always think back to the comment I made and how I had to make it right. I'm awfully glad I did. Thank you Heath and Rachel for doing what you do. It means a lot.

    I don't sell any of my wood, maybe one day I will. With that being said I split my wood small, I use to be the one that would split larger wood because in my mind it was better to use for heating. What i found was that yes it did hold the fire longer, but it took a lot longer to dry and season. I also learned that it was easier for my wife to handle the small splits, she helps me with stacking and feeding the fire along with my kids. So that's what I do now smaller splits = faster drying and seasoning = more help and a happier wife, which we all know makes things better.

    This is exactly what we do , A lot of our elderly customers cant lift big chunks of wood . and smaller pieces of wood provide a quick source of light and radiant heat . They don't like a lot of splinters . we burn all the Y pieces and knotty pieces and anything that doesn't look perfect . consistency and uniformity is absolutely key to getting more money for Your hard work.

    Heath this is a great video,(useful) on your splitter pay attention to the bottom plate of the wedge for ware , you may have to grease the underside of the rails.

    I don’t sell firewood like yourself so I have a cheap single split hydraulic splitter. My neighbor said the same thing about the speed of splitting by hand vs me splitting with the machine. Told him I’ll split all day & you’ll be done in an hour or two. I let him use it one day and guess what? He bought one. lol
    So your intro made me laugh!

    Dude I've seen your legs...PLEASE...NO dress, kilt, whatever. LOL Seriously Heath I think you "hit the nail" squarely on the head. Knowing your market. I've said this next ad nauseum. Texas winters are generally so mild, there's simply no need for home heating firewood. Outdoor entertaining, backyard burn pits probably accounts for most sales. But, we experience this annually in late summer/early fall. Anywhere from abnormally dry to moderate to severe drought. So well over half of the 254 counties in Texas are under mandatory outdoor burn bans. Hard to sell firewood like that. Really enjoy your videos. Keep em coming.

    what you just said there i have no complaints, when i comes to season firewood for 12 24 36 months you have to charge double the price for customers who are heating there homes and doing barbecues for next year, take care your family in Michigan,

    As a so called "Real firewood guy" we sell bulk 5 facecord minimum for delivery. In a day we've done 35 facecords or 7 deliveries plus we also sell in house for pickup customers.. we really don't have the time to go through the loads and resplit.. any custom cut we run through our blacks creek which does our resplits or the Axis.. Obviously your resplits make you more money per cord... I wouldn't call you a "Real firewood guy" but I'll call you a Hobbiest!!!

  • @jimmieburleigh9549
    @jimmieburleigh9549 7 годин тому

    I didn't check to see where they get it from but I went to dollar general yesterday evening and they had a cords worth of bundle wood. Everyone of the bundles had chunks as big and bigger that you was respliting more than once per piece.

  • @Tonnsfabrication
    @Tonnsfabrication 5 годин тому

    If you sell bundle and box wood you almost always wind up doing some form of resplitting, at least I do anyways. The wedge choice and the log diamiter can make or break ya. I try to resplit right at the processor but as is normally the case you can't catch them all and once they hit the conveyor I'm already dropping the next round in the chamber.

    I know why you do it. It's just hard for some one like me who never made $50,000.00 a year to wrap thier head around why someone would pay that much for wood that small. We did bonfires and just pulled wood off the pile. Not saying anything bad about you. And I'm not in the firewood Business. Just cut my own and can hardly do that any more. lol

    The people that complain the most about what you are doing I found from experience are one of the lazies people you will ever meet. The more you slit sourwood the more it's worth. Any real wood person will tell you that.. Go to any real wood yard and you will see they separate all there wood by species and size of splits.. That is a true fact and if you say different then ignorance is bliss for you

    Great video. And good fun. Good advice.
    So. I cut trees, drag them out of the woods, I buy 8’ logs, I cut these up with a chainsaw, I split the wood with a homemade hydraulic splitter hooked to and powered by a 1975 Case 224 garden tractor, I pile wood, I stack wood, I burn wood , my son burns wood, my sister in law burns wood, I do most of the process from tree to split wood. I don’t sell wood !
    So, am I a firewood guy ? 🤭
    Have a great day Heath. 👍🏻👍🏻👋👋🪵🪓🔥
